Castr vs Restream for 24/7 YouTube Streaming: Which Fits?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For a prerecorded YouTube channel that needs to play continuously, Castr is the more directly documented fit: it says its playlist loop runs continuously on Premium and higher. Restream’s documented loop repeats a video up to 10 times, with a maximum 40-hour stream. If you want a cloud service dedicated to keeping uploaded videos live on YouTube, StreamNeo is another option to consider first: it runs continuously from the cloud, supports uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

First, distinguish prerecorded playout from a live source

“24/7 YouTube streaming” can mean either a hosted playlist of prerecorded videos or a continuously connected camera or encoder. The distinction matters: loop limits determine whether prerecorded programming can continue, while a live source depends on the camera or encoder staying connected and recovering after interruptions.

  • Prerecorded channel: You upload or schedule videos and a service plays them to YouTube as a live broadcast. Castr documents infinite playlist looping on Premium and higher; Restream documents a finite loop.
  • Live camera or encoder: A device supplies the stream continuously. Castr says its camera streams have no time limit, subject to plan bandwidth. Restream says it has no general duration limit, but warns that server maintenance may occur after 24 hours and recommends restarting. Neither claim guarantees an uninterrupted connection.

This comparison reflects the providers’ published documentation, not hands-on testing or an independent uptime comparison. Plan terms and features can change, so confirm them before buying.

Castr vs Restream at a glance

Decision point Castr Restream
Prerecorded programming Upload or schedule video and loop playlists. Castr says infinite looping is available on Premium and higher. Schedule prerecorded events and loop a video up to 10 times; the documented maximum stream length with this loop feature is 40 hours.
YouTube delivery The prerecorded-live page lists YouTube as a supported destination. Official connection instructions and prerecorded-event documentation support YouTube delivery.
Continuous live-source operation Castr’s IP-camera page says streams have no time limit; plan bandwidth still matters. Restream says there is no overall duration limit, but its servers may undergo maintenance after 24 hours and it recommends restarting the stream every 24 hours.
YouTube archive Verify archive behavior with YouTube for the stream you plan to run. Restream says YouTube archives streams under 12 hours; this is an archive qualification, not a limit on whether a longer stream can be sent.
Plan sizing Published plans vary in bandwidth and destination allocations. Pricing is organized around active channels and feature access; storage and prerecorded-video features depend on plan.
Other production features Offers a hosted player, multistreaming, video hosting and playout, with advanced features varying by tier. Focuses on multistreaming, Studio and Upload & Stream, with channel counts and prerecorded features varying by plan.

When Castr is the better fit

Choose Castr for an always-on prerecorded YouTube playlist if infinite looping is essential and its Premium-or-higher plan, bandwidth allocation and destination limits suit your channel. Its documentation directly describes continuous 24/7 playlist playout. Check the current Castr prerecorded-video details and feature list for the plan entitlements that apply to you.

When Restream is the better fit

Restream may fit creators who want scheduled prerecorded broadcasts, repeated short-duration events or its broader multistreaming workflow. Its documented loop is not an indefinite playlist: the Help Center specifies up to 10 repetitions and a 40-hour maximum stream when using that loop. See Restream’s loop instructions and prerecorded-event setup.

For a live source, Restream says it does not set a general stream-duration limit, but it may perform server maintenance after 24 hours. Its Help Center recommendation is: “To prevent potential issues, we suggest restarting your stream every 24 hours.” Treat that as the provider’s operational guidance, not a reliability guarantee. See Restream’s duration guidance.

Restream says YouTube archives streams only when they are under 12 hours. If a persistent VOD matters, plan separate recordings or shorter events and check the current YouTube streaming guide. YouTube’s archive behavior is separate from the question of whether a service can keep sending a live stream.

What to check before choosing a plan

  • Loop behavior: Confirm that the plan supports the playback pattern you need. Castr documents infinite prerecorded looping at Premium and higher; Restream documents a finite loop of up to 10 repetitions and a 40-hour stream maximum for that feature.
  • Bandwidth and audience: Estimate viewer traffic and compare it with the provider’s published bandwidth allowance. For Castr, bandwidth allocations vary by plan.
  • Destinations and channels: Count simultaneous destinations and active channels, then match them to the plan limits and feature access.
  • Video library and storage: Check how much prerecorded material you need to host and which plan includes the required storage or upload features.
  • VOD requirements: Decide whether YouTube archives are important. Restream’s documentation says streams under 12 hours are archived; for other cases, verify archive behavior with YouTube.
  • Recovery expectations: A published duration limit or loop feature does not promise that a stream will never disconnect. Consider how the platform and your source handle interruptions.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is a prerecorded YouTube channel that stays live without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It loops uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it does not stream from a camera.
