For a non-interactive 24/7 YouTube channel, start with Normal latency in YouTube Studio. It supports all resolutions and live features and gives viewers the most buffering headroom. Choose Low or Ultra-low only when shorter delay matters more than that extra playback stability. Castr’s LL and ULL options describe playback through Castr, not the latency setting for your YouTube destination.
Which latency setting should a 24/7 YouTube channel use?
Use Normal for a continuous feed that viewers mainly watch rather than interact with in real time—for example, a music stream, ambient video, or a scheduled channel loop. YouTube describes Normal as best for non-interactive streams: it offers the highest viewer quality because it has the least viewer buffering, and it supports all resolutions and live features. YouTube does not state a numeric latency target for Normal on its help page.
Low or Ultra-low can suit a channel built around live conversation, but shorter latency leaves less read-ahead buffer between the encoder and the viewer. That makes playback more sensitive to network congestion or other delivery issues. YouTube says most viewers of a Low-latency stream experience less than 10 seconds of latency; for Ultra-low, most experience less than five seconds. These are YouTube’s published guidance, not guarantees for every viewer.
YouTube latency settings compared
| Setting | Best fit | YouTube’s published latency guidance | Limits and trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal | Continuous or otherwise non-interactive streams | No numeric target stated | Highest viewer quality and least buffering; supports all resolutions and live features. |
| Low | Some audience interaction where a shorter delay is useful | Most viewers experience less than 10 seconds | Does not support 4K; shorter buffer means greater exposure to playback buffering. |
| Ultra-low | Real-time conversation where the shortest YouTube delay matters | Most viewers experience less than five seconds | Does not support 4K; buffering may be more likely, and the stream is more sensitive to ingestion problems. |
The published “most viewers” figures are estimates from YouTube Help; the page does not state a publication year and was checked in 2026. Actual delay can vary with the encoder-to-YouTube connection and viewer playback conditions.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set the YouTube destination’s latency in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and enter the Live Control Room for the stream.
- Open the stream dashboard’s Stream Settings.
- Under Stream latency, select Normal, Low, or Ultra-low.
- For an unattended channel with little or no live interaction, leave the setting on Normal. If you change to Low or Ultra-low, check that the loss of 4K support and the greater buffering sensitivity fit your stream.
YouTube says webcam and mobile streams are set up for interactivity and do not offer a selectable latency setting. The selectable mode described here applies to streams where the Live Control Room exposes the setting.
How Castr fits into the setup
Castr can ingest a broadcast and send it to YouTube, but its player latency choices are separate from YouTube’s destination setting. In Castr, create or open the livestream, choose an ingest region near the broadcast source, and configure a supported input such as RTMP/RTMPS or SRT. Add YouTube as a destination using the API connection or YouTube server and stream key. Castr’s setup guide covers its stream monitoring and backup features.

Set YouTube’s mode in YouTube Studio for people watching on YouTube. If you also offer the stream through a Castr player or embed, configure the Castr playback option separately. Do not promise YouTube viewers a Castr player’s LL or ULL timing.
Castr LL and ULL are not YouTube latency modes
| Castr playback option | Castr’s published guidance | Where it applies |
|---|---|---|
| LL (Low Latency) | Castr says latency is less than 15 seconds. | Castr playback; Castr’s January 2026 guide says LL is available to Ultra and Premium-yearly subscribers. |
| ULL (Ultra Low Latency) | Castr says latency is less than two seconds. | Castr playback, not the YouTube destination’s selectable latency mode. |
| Sub-Second Streaming | Castr describes sub-second playback. | Castr says this works only through the Castr player; social destinations use standard latency. |
The Castr timings are service-published claims, not independent measurements. Confirm your account’s plan and intended playback destination in Castr before selecting or advertising LL/ULL. For YouTube viewers, the relevant options and estimates are the ones in YouTube Studio.

What a 24/7 Castr stream still depends on
Castr says it supports unlimited stream duration while the subscription is active and there is enough streaming bandwidth. That is not a promise that delivery cannot be interrupted: the source encoder, power, local network, and account and bandwidth continuity still matter.
- Use a wired Ethernet connection for the encoder where practical. Castr recommends wired networking because Wi-Fi can introduce packet loss and latency spikes.
- Watch Castr’s stream-health information so you can spot source or ingest problems. A healthy local connection does not select YouTube’s latency mode or guarantee a particular end-to-end viewer delay.
- Choose a YouTube latency mode based on interaction needs, then assess playback stability. A shorter delay cannot compensate for congestion or an unstable encoder-to-platform connection.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the aim is a 24/7 YouTube channel built from uploaded recordings or a playlist, StreamNeo is an alternative to keeping a local encoder online: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it also includes automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. For a YouTube-only stream made from uploaded video, start the free first day with StreamNeo.
