Chess Titans is not included with Windows 10, and Microsoft does not offer a current official download for it. To play it, you must either recover the original game files from a licensed Windows 7 installation or use an unofficial third-party “Windows 7 Games” repackage. Because these installers are not published or supported by Microsoft, check them carefully before running them.
Was Chess Titans included with Windows 10?
No. Chess Titans was bundled with certain Windows Vista and Windows 7 editions, including Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise, and Ultimate. It was removed from later Windows releases, including Windows 10. It is not available through Windows Features or official Windows 10 installation media.
Microsoft does not currently publish a standalone Chess Titans installer for Windows 10. Be cautious of pages claiming to provide an “official Microsoft” download: current third-party guides themselves describe the commonly distributed Windows 7 Games package as community-maintained or unofficial. Microsoft’s former Windows game bundle is documented here, while Microsoft’s support discussion confirms that Chess Titans is not supplied as a current Windows 10 component.
Can you download Chess Titans from the Microsoft Store?
There is no verified current Microsoft Store installation path for Chess Titans. A Microsoft Q&A answer once referred to a Store link, but the product ID shown there is truncated, and users reported that clicking Get did not start an installation. The response came from an independent advisor, not a Microsoft product announcement.

Microsoft also says that an app can disappear from the Store because it was removed, is incompatible, is unavailable in a region, or no longer meets Store requirements. Therefore, do not assume that a search result or old Store link represents a supported Chess Titans release.
How to install Chess Titans on Windows 10
The practical route described by current guides is an unofficial Windows 7 Games repackage. Package names and screens vary, so the instructions below are a general guide rather than an official Microsoft procedure.
1. Treat the installer as untrusted until verified
Third-party packages may contain modified executables, adware, browser hijackers, or incomplete files. A SmartScreen or antivirus warning is not proof that the installer is malicious, but it is a reason to stop and verify the download rather than automatically bypass protection.

The safest alternative is to recover the game from a Windows 7 installation that you are licensed to use. Do not download or copy files from an unknown source merely because the package uses a familiar name such as Windows7Games_for_Windows10.exe.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
2. Run the installer with administrator rights
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- If the package offers a language-selection screen, choose a language and select Next.
- At the game-selection screen, clear every title except Chess Titans, if you want only the chess game.
- Leave the default installation directory unchanged unless you have a specific reason to alter it.
- Select Install and complete the setup.
Other repackaged versions may use slightly different labels, such as a final Finish button. The package should create a Start-menu entry when installation succeeds.
How to launch Chess Titans
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Chess Titans. - Select the matching result.
Some packages place the shortcut inside a Start-menu folder named Games. If the shortcut is missing, do not manually move installed files: doing so can break registry references created by the installer.

Fixes for common Windows 10 problems
Chess Titans does not appear in the Start menu
Rerun the installer by right-clicking it and choosing Run as administrator. An incomplete setup, missing administrator permissions, or security software interrupting installation can prevent the shortcut from being created. If antivirus software blocks the package, verify the source and scan the files; do not disable protection blindly.
The game opens and immediately closes
Try Windows 7 compatibility mode:
- Right-click the Chess Titans shortcut and choose Properties.
- Open the Compatibility tab.
- Check Run this program in compatibility mode for:.
- Choose Windows 7.
- Select Apply, then OK, and launch the game again.
This is a community workaround, not a Microsoft-documented Chess Titans fix. It may not resolve problems caused by a damaged or unsafe repackage.

Unofficial installers commonly trigger security warnings. In some guides, SmartScreen displays More info followed by Run anyway, but selecting that option only bypasses the warning; it does not verify the file’s safety. Proceed only if you have independently checked the source and the file, and otherwise delete it.

If the Microsoft Store itself is malfunctioning
Resetting the Store will not install Chess Titans, but it can help diagnose a general Store problem. Press Windows key + R, enter:
wsreset.exeSelect OK. Microsoft says a blank Command Prompt window should open, close after roughly ten seconds, and then the Microsoft Store should open automatically. You can search the Store afterward, but this process does not restore Chess Titans if the game is no longer listed.
Microsoft also documents generic causes of missing Store apps, including regional restrictions, family settings, device incompatibility, a pending restart after updates, and account authorization. These checks do not prove that Chess Titans is available.

If you need to re-register the Store, a Microsoft Q&A thread gives this PowerShell command:
Get-AppXPackage *WindowsStore* -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}Run it in PowerShell, not ordinary Command Prompt. At a prompt beginning with something like C:Users..., Command Prompt will report that Get-AppXPackage is not recognized.
What Chess Titans includes
The original game supports one player against the computer or two participants. It has ten computer-difficulty levels, lets you choose White or Black, highlights legal moves when you select a piece, and supports mouse and keyboard input as well as compatible Windows gamepads. These are features of the original Windows game, not evidence of a current Microsoft Store release.
Is “Microsoft Chess” the official replacement?
Do not treat that claim as established. Some articles describe chess alternatives available through the Store, but the available evidence does not establish a current Microsoft product officially named Microsoft Chess as Chess Titans’ direct replacement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBottom line
Chess Titans cannot be downloaded from an official Windows 10 installer or a verified current Microsoft Store listing. Your choices are to recover it from a licensed Windows 7 installation or use a carefully vetted third-party repackage. If you install the latter, run setup with administrator rights, select only Chess Titans, scan the files, and use Windows 7 compatibility mode if the game closes immediately.
