It launched exclusively through Apple Arcade, where players plan housing, transport, utilities, public services, and greener development. The game was made by developers with experience in the simulation genre; the available sources do not establish that it is a new release today or independently verify a direct link to the SimCity development team.
What is Cityscapes: Sim Builder?
Cityscapes: Sim Builder is a strategy-focused city-building simulation in which you take the role of mayor and coordinate the systems a functioning city needs. The official App Store listing frames the goal as building successful cities while balancing citizen wellbeing, environmental sustainability, and business impacts. Apple’s App Store listing describes the game as “Build the best cities!”
The game is about managing connected needs rather than simply placing buildings. Residents need homes and jobs, businesses need access, and the city requires transport, power, clean water, waste collection, and public services. Industry and road traffic can contribute to pollution, so growth has environmental consequences as well as economic ones.
Who made it, and when did it come out?
Playstack published the game, and Magic Fuel Games developed it. Playstack’s parent company TruFin announced its release on 5 May 2023, describing it as an Apple Arcade exclusive for Mac, iOS, and Apple TV. The announcement also says Playstack acquired Magic Fuel Games in 2022. TruFin’s release announcement is the source for that launch history.

- Construct your own awesome building;

- Send the cubes to the conveyor;
- Build up as many floors as possible.
The App Store listing currently identifies compatibility with iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision, and Apple TV. That current listing is broader than the platforms named in the 2023 launch announcement; it should not be read as evidence that Apple Vision was a launch platform.
How does the city management work?
Housing, jobs, and commerce
Players need to provide housing while supporting places to work and shop. The city’s layout connects those needs: where development goes affects how citizens travel and how businesses function.
Transport, utilities, and public services
Roads and transport shape movement around the city, while power, clean water, and garbage collection cover basic infrastructure. The listing also calls out police, education, fire safety, and medical care as responsibilities in the mayor’s balancing act. These systems make expansion a planning problem: new development has to be served, not merely built.
Pollution and sustainability
The App Store description specifically links industry and road traffic with pollution. It presents green spaces and sustainable city design as part of the response, alongside attention to citizens’ health and happiness. Sustainability is therefore an explicit premise of the game’s city planning, not just a label attached to its theme.

What features and modes does the listing describe?
Apple’s listing describes a progression built around expanding and customizing cities. Players can unlock cities in different biomes, open additional land parcels, discover natural curiosities and architectural landmarks, and use building blueprints. It also describes a monthly City Pass that advances through daily and weekly tasks.
The listing’s version history has referred to campaign or story play, trials or multiplayer, and sandbox or free-play modes. Those are mode labels found in the update notes; the available source does not establish every detail of how each mode currently works, so treat them as a guide to the modes mentioned in the game’s history rather than a complete current feature specification.

Is it really from former SimCity developers?
The supplied official sources identify Magic Fuel Games as the developer and characterize its team as experienced in simulation. They do not provide a roster establishing which individual developers previously worked on SimCity. The “former SimCity developers” wording in the original headline is therefore not independently confirmed by the cited release announcement or current App Store listing.
In the release announcement, Magic Fuel Games co-founder and Chief Product Officer Kip Katsarelis said the team aimed to make a city-builder of “PC and console quality on mobile platforms.” That is the developer’s description of its ambition, not an independent comparison or a measured finding about the game’s depth. The announcement also quotes Playstack CEO Harvey Elliott calling it a game created by veterans in simulation; both statements are company representatives’ assessments.

The publisher announced the game as an Apple Arcade exclusive, and the official website likewise describes it as built exclusively for Apple Arcade. The current US App Store listing shows support for iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Vision, and Apple TV. Check the current App Store listing for compatibility and availability on your device; no specific device model requirement is established by the sources cited here.
The official website positions the game as a sustainable city builder optimized for mobile. That positioning and the Apple Arcade distribution model distinguish its documented release context, but the available sources do not provide a comparative benchmark against other city-building games.
