Civilization VII – VR launched worldwide on April 10, 2025, exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S. It adapts the strategy game to a tabletop-style War Table, with virtual- and mixed-reality modes, leader interactions, and online multiplayer for up to four players.
What Civilization VII – VR changes
Rather than presenting the strategy map as a conventional flat screen, the VR edition puts a War Table in front of you. You can look down over the map or lean closer to inspect buildings and units. The interface is designed for Quest, with options to change your viewpoint and place the table in your physical surroundings.
Leaders appear around the table and respond to diplomacy and war. For one-on-one negotiations, the game has a Diplomacy Chamber. An Archives space presents gameplay history and achievements as dioramas.
Virtual reality and mixed reality
The game offers both immersive VR and mixed reality. In VR, the War Table sits in a virtual museum environment; in mixed reality, the Command Table is adapted to the player’s physical room. These modes change how the strategy space is situated, while the table remains the central way to view the map.

Platforms, multiplayer, and requirements
2K identifies Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S as the exclusive supported platforms. The announcements do not establish support for PC VR, other Quest generations, or cross-platform play, so do not assume those options are available.
Solo play is supported. Online multiplayer accommodates up to four players total, meaning you can play with up to three other people. According to 2K’s April 3, 2025 launch announcement, online multiplayer requires an internet connection, a 2K Account, and a Meta Account. The publisher lists the game as ESRB E10+; minimum age for accounts varies.

Where to get it and what the launch price means
2K lists the Meta Horizon Store as the game’s store destination. Its April 3, 2025 announcement gave a launch price of $59.99. That is the historical launch price, not a verified current price; the cited announcements do not establish today’s price or availability by territory. Check the store listing for current details.
Choosing between Quest 3 and Quest 3S
Both headsets are named as supported devices. The official announcements do not provide a game-specific comparison of their current prices, display characteristics, comfort, or performance, so there is not enough evidence here to recommend one over the other for this game. If you already own either supported headset, the publisher’s compatibility information includes it.

Release and franchise context
2K and Firaxis announced Civilization VII – VR on February 10, 2025, describing it as the franchise’s first virtual- and mixed-reality entry. PlaySide Studios developed the game in partnership with Firaxis Games; 2K published it. 2K announced worldwide availability for April 10, 2025, and its UK newsroom reported the worldwide launch on that date.
In the February announcement, Firaxis Executive Franchise Producer Dennis Shirk called the release “a milestone for the Civ franchise.” Separately, 2K reported more than 73 million copies sold in worldwide franchise sell-in in 2025. That is a figure for the Civilization franchise as a whole, not sales of the VR edition.
