Learn enemy rhythms, use Free Aim deliberately, and check what each Picto and attribute point actually gives you. These spoiler-light tips focus on systems that are easy to overlook and note where updates changed the menus or retry options.
How should you defend: dodge or parry?
After selecting an action, stay alert for timed inputs. Enemy movements are cues to react, not just animations to watch. If you are still learning an enemy’s rhythm, start with dodging: Xbox Wire’s beginner guide describes its timing window as more forgiving than parrying. Parrying asks for tighter timing, but a successful parry can turn defense into an opportunity to counter. Neither is automatically best for every attack or build; choose based on the move you can read consistently.

You can adjust difficulty during play to widen dodge and parry timing windows, or enable automatic QTE input during combat. Treat these as options for making the timing system suit your preference, not as a test you have to pass.
When is Free Aim worth an AP?
Free Aim has uses both in and out of combat. In battle, an aimed shot costs one AP and does not end your turn, according to Xbox Wire. That makes it a tactical choice rather than a free default: look for a weak point or a target that can be dealt with efficiently before spending the AP. Some enemies, including flying foes noted by Xbox Wire, may be especially vulnerable to shots.

Outside combat, Free Aim can interact with some environmental targets and may let you stun a Nevron before approaching for a First Strike. Sandfall Interactive’s preview also describes aiming at weak points and certain objects, such as floating mines or flowers that buff a boss. Not every unusual object is necessarily interactive, so use visual cues and the encounter context instead of firing at everything.
How do Pictos and Lumina work?
Equip new Pictos as you find them. Win four battles with a Picto equipped to master it; after that, its effect can be assigned to party members through Lumina, provided they have enough Lumina points. This gives you a reason to rotate Pictos and build mastery rather than leaving the same set equipped indefinitely.

When choosing Lumina effects, weigh the benefit against the point cost and your current build. A useful effect that costs fewer points may fit more easily, while equipping a Picto can provide an effect without spending Lumina points on that effect. The Pictos menu gained a Lumina-cost display in official update v1.4.0, and a December 11, 2025 PlayStation Blog update announcement reported Lumina search filters and saved loadouts. Menu labels and options can differ from launch-era guides and screenshots.
What should you spend attribute points on?
Xbox Wire’s beginner guide says each level-up grants three attribute points and notes that an attribute can improve more than one stat. Before committing, preview each attribute’s displayed gains. Consider the character’s role, weapon, and chosen skills rather than following a universal build recipe: the cited guidance does not establish a single optimal allocation or current breakpoints for every character and version.

Where should you look while exploring?
Do not treat the obvious route as the only route. Sandfall Interactive describes the environments as nonlinear, vertical, and built around secrets. Check dead ends, look above and below the main path, and inspect side routes for items or optional enemies. Grapples, climbing hooks, and ropes open traversal possibilities; revisit a blocked-looking route after gaining a relevant traversal option.
Thorough exploration can uncover more than ordinary loot: the developer has described optional bosses and even hidden levels among possible discoveries. Xbox Wire also recommends jumping and checking around dead ends, where an item or optional encounter may be waiting.

What happens after defeat, and what did updates change?
Xbox Wire’s beginner guide reports that defeat generally returns the player nearby, and that healing and respawn items refill after resting at an Expedition Flag or campsite. Resting at a flag also brings enemies back, according to that guide. These are beginner-guide observations, not guarantees for every situation.
Official update v1.4.0, dated July 30, 2025, added a Battle Retry prompt after defeat. A December 11, 2025 PlayStation Blog announcement for the free Thank You Update also reported battle abandonment, along with a new Verso’s Drafts level, 13 weapons, 16 additional Luminas, photo mode, and Endless Tower boss battles and rewards. Those are dated update announcements, not confirmation of the newest patch or of unchanged behavior today. Check the version shown in your game and current official patch notes before relying on an exact retry flow or menu label.
