That is a historical 2025 ranking, not a claim that it is the highest-rated game in 2026. On Metacritic, it shared a 92 Metascore with Blue Prince; the higher placement was attributed to its larger review count.
What “highest-rated” meant in 2025
GamesRadar+ reported that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 led Metacritic and OpenCritic among 2025 releases after scores had settled. The two aggregators use different ranking calculations, so their rankings are separate results rather than directly interchangeable score comparisons. The report describes a 2025 snapshot, not a permanent title the game necessarily holds today. GamesRadar+’s ranking report

Why Metacritic placed it above Blue Prince
In GamesRadar+’s account of the 2025 ranking, Expedition 33 and Blue Prince both had a 92 Metascore. GamesRadar+ said Expedition 33 ranked higher because it had more critic reviews. That explains the ordering in that ranking; it does not mean the scores were different or that every aggregator resolves ties in the same way.
Metacritic’s PS5 page showed a 92 Metascore from 84 critic reviews and a 9.5 user score from 26,476 ratings when accessed October 8, 2026. These are separate critic and user measures, and the page’s figures can change as ratings and reviews are added. Metacritic’s PS5 listing
