Can the ClockworkPi GameShell run PICO-8?
Yes, PICO-8 is named in ClockworkPi’s software documentation and wiki. That establishes a documented support path, not tested performance for every cartridge or the current condition of any download source.
Operating system and software versions
ClockworkPi’s product overview describes ClockworkOS as Debian 9 ARMhf-based, with a Linux mainline kernel in the 4.1x series. Separately, the official GitHub repository identifies a ClockworkOS v0.5 image dated January 4, 2020, described as 32-bit and using Linux kernel 5.3.6. These are distinct snapshots of official material; neither should be treated as proof of the currently maintained or recommended release.

The repository says it contains OS images, kernel patches, keypad source code, hardware schematics, assembly instructions, and technical documents. Its description does not guarantee that every resource is current. The v0.5 image documentation recommends at least an 8GB TF (microSD) card and describes flashing instructions for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

- Check the kit and documentation. Confirm which board and microSD card are included, then use the assembly instructions supplied with that kit or the relevant instructions in ClockworkPi’s community wiki.
- Assemble the modules. Fit the mainboard, display, keypad, speaker, battery, Lightkey module, and shells as directed. The exact assembly procedure is revision-specific; use the applicable illustrated instructions rather than assuming parts are interchangeable.
- Prepare the system card. If using the repository’s v0.5 image, its documentation recommends a card of at least 8GB and provides flashing guidance for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Confirm that the image matches your hardware and follow its own instructions.
- Boot and configure software. Use the wiki’s setup and emulator guidance to configure the system. The wiki also documents ROM transfer and SSH file transfer; use only game files you are legally entitled to use.
- Troubleshoot against the documented setup. Consult the wiki’s troubleshooting material and hardware information if a module, control, or emulator does not behave as expected.
The available documentation describes the route, but does not establish how much time assembly takes, whether the current setup process is frictionless, or whether legacy downloads are still hosted reliably.
Is the GameShell still available?
Availability is not clear from the official material alone. ClockworkPi’s overview names Amazon.com as a sales channel, but its official kit page displays “Out of Stock.” That page also shows a shipping estimate of about 60 business days under the supply-chain conditions stated there; inventory, shipping estimates, and listed price can change, so they should not be read as a current offer without checking the page. The overview’s Amazon reference does not verify a live listing or stock. A historical forum FAQ also mentions the official site, Amazon US and Japan, and Taobao, but it is not evidence that those channels remain active.
