Also consider what changed immediately beforehand: a Windows update, printer removal, antivirus quarantine, disk cleanup, system-image restoration, or driver update.
Fix 1: Reinstall the Canon printer driver
This is the primary repair because cnb_0276.dll appears to belong to a hardware driver package.
Identify the installed printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.

- Return to Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Select Remove.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
If print jobs are stuck, select Open print queue before removing the printer and cancel every pending job. If the queue will not clear, restart the spooler:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and select Restart.
Install the correct package
Use Canon’s official support portal and search for the exact printer model. Select the package matching your Windows edition and architecture. Do not substitute a driver for a similar Canon model, and do not use an old 32-bit package on a 64-bit installation unless Canon specifically documents that configuration.
Alternatively:
- Open Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Allow Windows to search for the printer.
- Follow the setup prompts.
- If Windows offers a manufacturer driver through Windows Update, allow it to install.

After installation, open the printer’s properties and print a test page. The repair worked if the test page prints, the Canon utility opens without the DLL message, and the error does not return after restarting Windows.

Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Security software may have removed a legitimate driver component, or it may have blocked a suspicious copy.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for an event involving
cnb_0276.dll, a Canon installer, or a Canon executable. - Do not restore the file immediately.
- First verify that it came from a Canon installer or a legitimate Canon driver directory.
- Run a full scan.
- If the file was removed from a verified Canon package, reinstall the package from Canon instead of restoring an isolated DLL.

- Expand Printers, Print queues, and, if necessary, Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Find the Canon device.
- Right-click it and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider and driver date.
- Select Update Driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update and Roll Back Driver is available, select it, restart Windows, and test printing. If no suitable driver is found, remove the device from Device Manager and repeat the complete Canon removal and installation procedure above.
Do not delete an active driver package casually. An incomplete removal can leave the printer unusable until the correct package is installed again.
Fix 4: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows files are also failing, Windows Update is damaged, or the error began after broader system corruption. They do not replace a missing Canon driver file.

- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows after both commands complete.
Microsoft specifically recommends running DISM before System File Checker. The Microsoft DISM and SFC instructions explain the result messages.
If SFC reports that it repaired corrupted files, restart and test the Canon software again. If it reports that some files could not be repaired, install pending Windows updates, restart, and run the two commands again. If the printer error remains but Windows components are healthy, return to the Canon driver reinstall rather than repeating SFC indefinitely.

Fix 5: Inspect the driver store carefully
Use this step only when normal removal and reinstalling fail.
- Open Command Prompt as administrator.
- List installed printer-driver packages:
pnputil /enum-drivers
- Look for a Canon provider and a printer-related INF package.
- Record the published name, such as
oem42.inf. - Confirm that it belongs to the affected Canon model before removing anything.
To remove a confirmed stale package, use the published name shown on your computer:

Replace oem42.inf with the actual package name. Do not remove a package merely because it contains a similar filename. Removing an active driver can leave the printer nonfunctional. Microsoft documents the risks and syntax in its PnPUtil reference.
Restart Windows and install the current Canon package immediately afterward.
Fix 6: Check architecture, ARM support, and Windows features
Open Settings → System → About and check System type. A 32-bit database copy of cnb_0276.dll is not a safe replacement for a 64-bit driver, and an older x86 installer may not work properly on Windows on ARM.

On ARM Windows, first try Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → Add device so Windows can select a compatible printer path. Follow Canon’s compatibility information for the exact model.
Windows Features are not a normal repair for this Canon DLL, but you can verify that printing support is available:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
optionalfeaturesand press Enter. - Check Print and Document Services if it is available and relevant to your installation.
- Expand it and confirm the needed printing components are enabled.
- Select OK and restart if Windows requests it.
Do not enable unrelated legacy features simply because a DLL error appeared.

regsvr32 is for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that cnb_0276.dll is a self-registering ActiveX or COM library, so this command is generally inappropriate:
regsvr32 cnb_0276.dll
It will not rebuild a printer-driver installation and may produce another misleading error. Microsoft’s regsvr32 documentation explains when registration applies.

Do not download cnb_0276.dll from a random DLL website or copy it into System32, SysWOW64, or an application folder. The file may contain malware, belong to the wrong Canon model, use the wrong architecture, or fail because a dependent file and the driver registration are still missing. Use Canon’s official support process or Windows Update instead.
A Visual C++ Redistributable is not a default fix for this filename. No reliable evidence connects this particular Canon driver component to a Microsoft runtime package.

If the error still appears
Identify the requesting program:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
eventvwr.mscand press Enter. - Open Windows Logs → Application.
- Look for an error at the time the message appeared.
- Record the failing application name and path.
- Also check Applications and Services Logs for printer or spooler events.
If the error occurs only in one Windows account, create a temporary local user under Settings → Accounts → Other users, sign in, and test the printer. A successful test there points to damaged per-user Canon settings rather than a missing system component.
If the computer no longer has a Canon printer or Canon software, do not install the DLL just to silence the message. Verify the executable that requests it, scan with Microsoft Defender, uninstall the unrelated application, and remove its stale startup entry.
