“cnb_0333.dll is missing from your computer” and “Error loading cnb_0333.dll” usually indicate a damaged or incomplete Canon printer-driver installation. cnb_0333.dll is associated with a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver, not with Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET.
Which fix applies to you
Use this order:
- The error appeared after removing, updating, or reinstalling a Canon printer: reinstall the complete driver package for the exact printer model.
- Printing stopped after Windows Update: remove the printer and driver package, then reinstall through Canon or Windows Update.
- The file was quarantined: inspect Windows Security Protection History before restoring anything.
- The message says “specified module could not be found”: the DLL itself or one of its dependencies may be missing.
- The error appears during startup or login: remove an orphaned Canon utility, scheduled task, or old printer installation.
- Several Windows programs also fail: repair Windows components with DISM and SFC.
- You found the DLL in an unexpected folder: scan the file and do not assume that the filename proves it is genuine.
What cnb_0333.dll is
Public file records identify CNB_0333.DLL as a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver component published by CANON INC. A Canon driver-package listing groups it with an INF package and related printer files, including CNB_0334.DLL, CNBJOP9A.DLL, and GPD files.
The filename alone cannot identify one exclusive Canon printer model. Similar files can be included in packages for different Canon inkjet printers. The correct repair therefore depends on the printer model that was installed on the computer.
Some older records describe a 32-bit copy, while another driver listing places a similarly named file in an architecture-specific package. Do not assume that every copy is 32-bit or 64-bit. Do not copy a DLL from a different model or architecture.

Windows may store printer-driver packages under locations such as:
%windir%inf
%windir%System32DriverStoreFileRepository
The exact path varies by package and Windows installation. A file in System32 is not automatically the correct copy, and the absence of the file from that folder does not prove that Windows is broken.
Fix 1: Reinstall the complete Canon printer driver
This is the most likely solution because the DLL is a printer-driver component rather than a standalone Windows runtime.
- Find the printer’s exact model name. Check the label on the printer, its control panel, or the existing printer entry in Windows.
- Open Canon’s official Software and Drivers support page.
- Search for the exact model.
- Select Windows 11 or Windows 10 as appropriate.
- Select the correct system architecture when Canon offers that choice.
- Download the complete printer driver or setup package, not an individual DLL.
- Disconnect the USB cable if the installer instructs you to do so.
- Run the downloaded installer as an administrator.
- Follow the connection instructions for USB or network installation.
- Restart Windows if requested.
- Print a Windows test page.
To test the installation, open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners, select the Canon printer, choose Printer properties, and select Print Test Page. If the page prints without the DLL error, the driver package has been rebuilt correctly.
If the Canon installer reports that the printer already exists, remove the old printer first:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Choose Remove.
- Restart the computer.
- Run the Canon installer again.
Do not use a driver for a similar-looking model. A nearby model name does not guarantee compatible driver files.

Fix 2: Remove the old driver package, then reinstall
Removing only the printer queue can leave a damaged Canon package in the Windows driver store.

- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer and choose Remove.
- Press Windows key + R, type
printui /s /t2, and press Enter. - Open the Drivers tab.
- Select the Canon printer driver.
- Choose Remove.
- Select Remove driver and driver package when Windows offers that choice.
- Confirm the removal.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the correct Canon package again.
If Windows says the driver is in use, restart the Print Spooler:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Print Spooler.
- Right-click it and choose Restart.
- Repeat the driver removal steps.
You can also clear stuck print jobs:
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Canon printer.
- Open the print queue.
- Cancel every pending job.
- Restart the Print Spooler.
- Reinstall the driver.
If printui /s /t2 does not open, use Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers, select Print server properties, and open the Drivers tab.
Fix 3: Reinstall through Windows
Windows may have a compatible inbox driver, particularly when Canon no longer provides a package for an older model.
- Remove the existing printer from Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select Add device.
- Wait for Windows to search.
- If the printer is not found, choose Add manually.
- Follow the connection options for a USB, network, or local printer.
- If prompted, choose Windows Update to refresh the available printer list.
- If you have a verified INF package, choose Have Disk and select its INF file.
- Complete the installation.
- Print a test page.
The Windows Update route may restore printing without reproducing the exact old Canon package. If the original Canon features, such as scanning utilities or advanced ink controls, are required, use the complete Canon package instead.

Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a driver component. Do not restore a loose DLL simply because its name matches the error.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Open the detection involving
cnb_0333.dll. - Check the original file path, detection name, and affected application.
- Confirm that the file came from a genuine Canon driver package.
- Restore or allow it only when the package source and file identity are verified.
- Reinstall the complete Canon driver afterward.
Microsoft warns that restoring a real threat can expose the computer. If the file was found in a temporary folder, a download directory, or an unrelated application folder, leave it quarantined and run a full Microsoft Defender scan.
For stronger checking, open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Scan options, select Full scan, and start the scan. Use Microsoft Defender Offline scan if the suspicious file returns after removal or Windows behaves unusually during startup.

Fix 5: Repair Windows components with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when other Windows files are also damaged, Windows Update is failing, or multiple applications report missing system components. They do not replace a missing Canon driver package.

- Right-click Start.
- Select Terminal (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
- Test the printer again.
DISM repairs the Windows component store that SFC uses, which is why it should run first. If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, restart and run it once more. If the printer error remains but Windows reports no broader corruption, return to the Canon driver reinstall rather than repeatedly running system repair commands.

Fix 6: Check the driver architecture and package
A 32-bit application running on 64-bit Windows can load a different driver component or search location than a 64-bit application. That is one reason copying a DLL between folders often produces a new error.
To check Windows architecture:
- Open Settings > System > About.
- Look at System type.
- Note whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
- Download the driver intended for that Windows installation.
Do not mix a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit Canon package, or use a file from another printer model. If the Canon installer does not support your current Windows version, try Windows Update or the manufacturer’s documented legacy-driver package rather than substituting a loose file.

- “The program can’t start because cnb_0333.dll is missing from your computer” usually means the named file is absent from the location where the Canon component expects it.
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cnb_0333.dll was not found” is another missing-file loader message.
- “Error loading cnb_0333.dll” can indicate a damaged file, an incompatible package, or a missing dependency.
- “The specified module could not be found” does not always mean the named DLL is absent. One of its dependent files may be missing.
- “The procedure entry point could not be located” usually indicates mismatched versions or architecture.
- “Not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error” can indicate corruption, an incompatible binary, or a file replaced by an untrusted copy.
Record the complete message and the application or service that displays it. An error during printing points toward the Canon driver. An error during login may come from an orphaned Canon utility or scheduled task.
Why downloading the DLL alone is unsafe
Do not download cnb_0333.dll from a random DLL website and copy it into System32. That approach can introduce malware, the wrong architecture, an incompatible version, an invalid signature, or unresolved dependencies. It can also hide the damaged printer installation that caused the error.
The safe sources are the official Canon support package for the exact printer model and Windows’ own printer-driver installation through Windows Update. Manual copying is appropriate only for an administrator restoring a verified matching package from a trusted backup.

Does regsvr32 fix cnb_0333.dll
Normally, no. regsvr32 registers DLLs that expose registration-compatible components, such as certain ActiveX controls. A printer-driver DLL installed through an INF-based package is repaired through the driver installer and driver package removal process.
Running commands such as these is therefore not a general solution:
regsvr32 cnb_0333.dll
regsvr32 /u cnb_0333.dll
If the DLL is not a registration-compatible component, the command may fail or create confusion without repairing printing.
Should you install Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET
Usually not. The available file identity points to a Canon printer-driver package, not a Microsoft runtime. Installing Visual C++ Redistributable, DirectX, or .NET will not normally restore a missing Canon driver component.
Install or repair those runtimes only when the exact error identifies a runtime dependency and the affected application requires it. For cnb_0333.dll, rebuild the Canon printer installation first.

When to use System Restore
Use System Restore if the error began immediately after a driver or software change and a restore point predates the failure.
- Press Windows key, type Recovery, and open Recovery Control Panel.
- Select Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point from before the problem.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Confirm the restore.
- Restart Windows and test printing.
System Restore rolls back system files, settings, and installed programs, but it does not remove personal files. If no suitable restore point exists, perform the clean driver reinstall instead.
