cnb_0340.dll is associated with a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver, not with Windows itself. The safest fix is to identify the Canon printer or scanner that was installed on the computer, remove the damaged Canon software if necessary, restart Windows, and install the matching driver package from Canon.
Do not download this DLL from a random DLL website, copy it into System32 or SysWOW64, or run regsvr32 against it. A missing-module message can indicate a damaged Canon installation or a missing dependency, so replacing one file often does not repair the real problem.
If the printer is no longer used, removing the leftover Canon utility may be the better fix.

What is cnb_0340.dll?
Public file databases associate cnb_0340.dll with a Canon Inkjet Printer Driver. They report it as a 32-bit driver component and list historical metadata including a Canon company attribution. Those records do not verify the exact printer model, current Windows compatibility, digital signature, hash, or whether every file with this name is identical.
There is no verified evidence that cnb_0340.dll is a standard Windows component. It is also not established as part of Visual C++, DirectX, .NET, or a game runtime. Do not install a Visual C++ Redistributable merely because this filename appears in the error.
The file normally arrives as part of a larger printer package. Canon installers may deploy control panels, print processors, scanning tools, services, language files, and several driver components. The likely causes are:
- A Canon driver installation is incomplete, damaged, or partly removed.
- A Canon utility remains in startup after an uninstall.
- Antivirus software quarantined a driver component.
- A legacy 32-bit Canon application is using an incompatible or incomplete package.
- Windows or the driver store has broader corruption.
- The file is outside a trusted Canon installation and may be illegitimate.
The timing is useful. Note whether the problem began after a Windows update, Canon driver update, antivirus alert, cleanup utility, printer uninstall, or system restore.
Fix 1: Identify the Canon printer and reinstall its package
This is the most likely solution.
Find the installed printer
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Bluetooth & devices.
- Select Printers & scanners.
- Record every Canon printer shown.
- Select a Canon printer and note its model name.
- Also check Apps > Installed apps for Canon utilities, printer tools, and model-specific driver packages.
If the printer is not listed, check the printer label, its original packaging, or any Canon software still present on the PC. Do not guess the model from the DLL filename. The filename does not identify a specific printer family.
Remove the damaged Canon software
If the printer is still installed but Canon utilities fail:

- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Canon.
- Remove the affected Canon application or printer package.
- Restart Windows.
You can also use the older Control Panel path:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select the model-specific Canon software or “Canon XXX MP Drivers.”
- Select Uninstall and follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
Do not remove a Canon package if you still need another Canon device until you have confirmed which model it belongs to.

- Open Canon’s official support site in your browser.
- Search for the exact printer model.
- Select your Windows edition and architecture when offered.
- Download the complete driver and software package, not an individual DLL.
- Close printing applications.
- Run the downloaded Canon installer as instructed.
- Connect the printer only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows after installation.
- Open Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Print a test page.
A successful repair normally restores the Canon utility and allows printing without the DLL message. If the same error appears before the installer opens, uninstall the remaining Canon components, restart, and run the official package again.
The reported file is 32-bit. That does not mean you should install a 32-bit version of Windows. A 32-bit Canon utility can require a 32-bit DLL while running on 64-bit Windows. Use the package Canon provides for the exact printer and Windows release rather than selecting a replacement based only on the operating system architecture.

Fix 2: Check whether antivirus quarantined the file
A security product may remove a damaged or suspicious DLL, leaving the Canon utility unable to start.
Check Windows Security
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Look for a Canon-related detection or a quarantined DLL.
- Expand the entry and inspect its original file path.
- Check whether the path belongs to the Canon installation you recognize.
Do not restore or allow the file simply because its name is cnb_0340.dll. Restore it only when the original location, Canon installation source, and publisher information are trustworthy. If the file came from an unknown folder or an unofficial download, leave it quarantined and reinstall the official Canon package instead.
After reinstalling, run a scan:
- Open Windows Security > Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Run Quick scan.
- If the file was outside a Canon directory or the system behaves suspiciously, run a Full scan.
- Use Microsoft Defender Offline scan when malware may be hiding while Windows is running.
Fix 3: Remove a leftover startup entry
If the printer was uninstalled but the error appears during Windows startup, a Canon utility may still be launching.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for a Canon entry.
- Select it and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
If you still use the printer, reinstall the complete Canon package rather than permanently disabling the utility. If you no longer own the printer, uninstall the remaining Canon applications from Settings > Apps > Installed apps or Control Panel > Programs and Features.

If the error stops after disabling the startup item, the DLL was probably being requested by that leftover application rather than by Windows itself.
Fix 4: Install pending Windows and driver updates
A Windows update can expose an old printer package, while a driver update can leave an incomplete installation.
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Open Advanced options > Optional updates.
- Expand Driver updates if available.
- Install a printer driver only when it clearly matches your Canon device.
- Restart Windows.
Do not replace a model-specific Canon package with a generic driver merely because it is newer. If the problem began immediately after a driver update, reinstall the Canon package or roll back the device driver when the option is available.
Fix 5: Check the printer in Device Manager
Device Manager can reveal a failed or partially installed driver.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Canon device or a device with a yellow warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Read the message under Device status.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
If the device is clearly the affected Canon printer:
- Select Uninstall Device.
- If offered, select the option to remove the driver package.
- Confirm the removal.

Do not delete unrelated devices or remove a shared print server driver without checking which computers depend on it.
Fix 6: Repair broader Windows corruption with DISM and SFC
Use these commands when several applications are failing, Windows reports damaged components, or the issue began after a system problem. They generally do not restore a third-party Canon DLL.

- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Enter:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then enter:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows.
DISM repairs the Windows component image. SFC checks protected Windows system files. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the Canon application again. If both commands complete without resolving the error, return to the Canon driver package rather than repeatedly running them.

Why regsvr32 usually does not apply
regsvr32 is for DLLs that provide a registration entry point such as DllRegisterServer. It is not a general missing-DLL repair command.
Running this command is usually inappropriate:
regsvr32 cnb_0340.dll
It may return “DllRegisterServer was not found,” or it may register a component without restoring the complete printer package. There is no verified evidence that cnb_0340.dll is a self-registering DLL. Use Canon’s installer instead.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after a driver update, application installation, or Windows change, System Restore may help.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select an appropriate restore point.
- Review the affected programs and drivers.
- Select Next, then Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore rolls back system files, settings, drivers, and installed programs. It normally does not remove personal documents. Afterward, reinstall the correct Canon package if the printer driver is still missing.

Avoid standalone DLL downloads
Downloading cnb_0340.dll from an unofficial DLL site is risky because the file may contain malware, have the wrong architecture, belong to a different historical package, or fail because another dependency is missing. Copying it into C:WindowsSystem32, C:WindowsSysWOW64, or an application directory can also create version conflicts and bypass Windows driver-package handling.
Use the printer manufacturer’s official support workflow and Microsoft’s Windows repair documentation instead. If Canon no longer provides a compatible package for the printer and Windows version, do not substitute an unverified DLL. Consider removing the obsolete Canon utility or using a supported printer.
