EA said the ratings could change in future updates, so this is a snapshot of the game’s launch-period rankings—not a current ranking of real-world college teams or a later edition of the game.

How EA arrived at the ratings
In its Rankings Week announcement, EA said its development team assessed all 134 FBS rosters, thousands of players, years of game film and statistics, using hundreds of thousands of data points and working with Pro Football Focus (PFF). EA did not publish a reproducible formula or explain how it weighted those inputs, so the rankings are best read as the developer’s overall ratings rather than a transparent calculation readers can independently replicate.
Overall ratings are only one comparison
EA’s Rankings Week announcement also published separate Top 25 Offenses, Top 25 Defenses and Toughest Places to Play lists. Those rankings address different categories: a team’s overall rating, its offense, its defense and home-field advantage. A high position on one list should not be treated as an equivalent position on another.

When the rankings were published
These ratings belong to the pre-launch period for College Football 25. Electronic Arts said the game launched worldwide on July 19, 2024, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in its launch announcement. EA’s Rankings Week post cautioned that “Rankings are subject to change in future updates,” so the table records the published snapshot rather than guaranteeing that every in-game rating remained unchanged afterward.
