EA’s June 24, 2025, College Football 26 – Dynasty & Team Builder Deep Dive announced changes across coaching, recruiting, player development, transfers, and program management. The headline additions include a coach level cap raised from 50 to 100, a Trophy Room for Dynasty achievements, more control over transfers, and optional manual player progression.
This is a guide to what EA announced for College Football 26, which launched July 10, 2025, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S—not a report of independent gameplay testing or a claim about later patches. EA’s current College Football site also promotes College Football 27, so the features below are specific to the 2025 installment.

What changed in College Football 26 Dynasty?
EA framed College Football 26 as the second year of a multi-year Dynasty vision, organized around building a coach, building a program, and delivering the college football world. The June 2025 announcement focused on making coaches and staff more consequential, giving users more information and control over roster decisions, and adding tools to track a program’s history.
- Coaching: authentic coach options, more created-coach customization, and a longer progression curve.
- Program history: a Trophy Room for championships, rivalry and bowl wins, and individual awards.
- Roster management: player dealbreakers, revised Playing Time logic, and commissioner controls for portal activity.
- Recruiting and development: location-based visits, clearer recruiting-battle information, expanded player growth, and optional manual progression.
- Management tools: expanded wear-and-tear controls, historical records, conference tiebreaker explanations, formation substitutions, and a 136-team field.
EA’s deep dive names Chad Walker, Producer, and Ben Haumiller, Principal Game Designer, as the people behind Dynasty Mode. Its opening design statement says the team aimed to “Satisfy the Core Community” because “This is THEIR Game”; EA does not attribute that sentence to either named developer.

How coach creation, progression, and staff movement work
Created coaches and authentic coaches
EA said players could start a Dynasty with a created coach or select from more than 300 authentic head coaches and coordinators. Authentic coaches come with associated playbooks, schemes, tendencies, career statistics, archetypes, and abilities. Created-coach customization adds gear options and choices for stance and sideline demeanor.
Coach levels and archetypes
The coach level cap increased from 50 to 100. EA said it rebalanced XP earned from goals and adjusted the curve to provide early momentum while making the highest levels a longer-term pursuit. Archetypes still have different progression tradeoffs: for example, a Tactician can have a higher XP ceiling when winning consistently, while Recruiter and Motivator offer more consistent but lower gains.
Coaching carousel and staff moves
The updated carousel is designed to make staff turnover easier to follow. EA described notifications when coordinators accept or decline offers, alerts when a staff member is poached, and a Staff Moves screen showing the person’s old and new roles and schools, plus the reason for the move. Three new Program Builder abilities focus on staff hiring and retention, and head-coach offer logic at top programs was rebalanced.

What does the Dynasty Trophy Room track?
Each Dynasty gets a Trophy Room associated with its coach. EA said it records championships, rivalry and bowl wins, and individual awards. Team achievement entries can include the season, team, opponent, and final score; award entries can identify the player, team, and year. It gives a program’s accomplishments a dedicated record rather than leaving them scattered across seasons.
How the College Football 26 transfer portal and roster retention changed
Portal size: two different EA figures
EA’s June 24, 2025 deep dive estimated “around 2,000 players” in the portal pool. The current EA College Football 26 Dynasty feature page instead says “Up to 3500 athletes can enter the portal each season.” These are different statements from different EA pages and dates; neither wording establishes that the other is an error or an independently verified count.
| EA source | Portal figure | What the wording says |
|---|---|---|
| June 24, 2025 Dynasty & Team Builder Deep Dive | Around 2,000 players | EA’s estimate in the 2025 announcement. |
| Current College Football 26 Dynasty feature page, checked October 8, 2026 | Up to 3,500 athletes | EA’s stated maximum per season. |
Retention, playing time, and transfer controls
EA said every player has a dealbreaker, with Conference Prestige added as one possible expectation. Playing Time now takes actual snaps into account instead of relying only on projected depth-chart position. Player expectations can change over time, and persuasion abilities can help users try to retain players.

Commissioners can adjust the maximum number of transfers from one team and transfer probabilities for both user-controlled and CPU teams. EA said the maximum-transfers setting can be set to zero to disable portal transfers entirely. That makes the portal’s role adjustable: a high-activity setup can make transfer acquisition central to roster building, while tighter limits or a zero cap reduce or remove that route.
EA also changed how transfer prospects’ star ratings are determined, giving position and class year more weight than overall rating alone. That may make a transfer’s potential contribution easier to distinguish from a single overall-rating comparison.

The announcement positions the portal as one roster-building route, not a replacement for recruiting. High-school recruiting supports a longer-term plan: bring players into the program, develop them across seasons, and manage their expectations and playing time. Transfers offer another way to address roster needs, but the number of arrivals can be limited—or set to zero—by the Dynasty commissioner. Which balance suits a league depends on whether its users want roster continuity or a more active player market.

What changed in College Football 26 recruiting?
EA described location-based campus visits, with recruiting costs adjusted according to location. The scouting interface aligns shared attributes to make prospects at the same position easier to compare. The Mind Reader ability can reveal a recruit’s Development Trait during scouting.
Recruiting-battle screens now show factors behind a prospect’s decision. When using Sway, the game displays a success probability before the user commits; EA said the odds are affected by motivational overlap between pitches. Quality-of-life additions include pinning Team Needs to the top of the prospect list and favoriting prospects.

More gradual skill-group growth
EA increased skill-group levels from 10 to 20, making progression more gradual. Development Traits have a greater effect on offseason growth, and players can gain weight during offseason development; the amount depends on position and class year. Athletic Facilities grades also influence development boosts.

Automatic or manual player progression
Manual progression can be enabled for each team. Instead of automatically spending accumulated skill points, players retain them until the user spends them from a player card. EA said the default manual-progression penalty is a 25% reduction, configurable by the Dynasty commissioner. The commissioner can disable the penalty or increase it.
Automatic progression reduces hands-on roster work. Manual progression gives users more say over where points go, but that added control comes with the announced default penalty unless the commissioner changes the setting. Leagues should decide how to configure it before play begins if they want a consistent progression rule for all teams.
Wear and tear, history, and season management
Wear-and-tear strategy and recovery
EA described a season-health pool that carries wear into future seasons: if that pool is depleted by season’s end, the next season begins with a smaller pool. Auto Subs can follow one of four wear-and-tear strategies—Keep Fresh, Normal, Grind It Out, or Custom—and Dynasty adds sliders for both applying and recovering wear.
Team count, records, and tiebreakers
With Missouri State and Delaware added, EA said the Dynasty field totals 136 teams. The deep dive also promised more historical tracking, expanded stats and records, and explanations of conference tiebreaker logic. The stated sequence checks head-to-head results first, then results against common conference opponents, and then CFP ranking if needed.

Positions, archetypes, and formation substitutions
EA described revised position labels and depth-chart options, including Edge Rusher and SAM/WILL/Mike terminology, plus Long Snapper, Gadget, and Nose Tackle roles. The announcement lists 59 player archetypes. Formation Subs let users assign specific personnel to particular formations, adding a way to tailor lineups to how they plan to use different packages.
What EA’s announcement does—and does not—establish
The June 2025 deep dive documents EA’s announced Dynasty features for College Football 26. It does not, by itself, establish how each feature behaves after subsequent updates, nor does it constitute independent hands-on testing. For the portal pool in particular, EA’s deep dive and current feature page use different figures and different wording; keep the source and date attached when quoting either one.
