A spread is about the margin, a moneyline is about which team wins, and a total is about combined points. American odds show the price of a wager; a parlay combines selections, usually requiring every leg to win. These definitions explain common terminology, not whether a wager is legal or available where you live.
What does -110 mean?
American odds show a wager’s price and the relationship between the amount risked and potential profit. A minus sign indicates how much you must risk to win $100 in profit; a plus sign indicates the profit on a $100 risk. For example, FanDuel’s Indiana terms use -120 to mean risking $120 to win $100, and +150 to mean a $100 risk yields $150 in winnings if successful. These are examples from that operator’s Indiana terms, not a promise that every sportsbook displays or settles wagers identically. A winning wager ordinarily also returns the original stake; distinguish that returned stake from profit, and check the displayed payout and local rules. FanDuel Indiana terms
What are vig and juice?
“Vig” or “juice” refers to the bookmaker margin reflected in offered prices. It is not a fixed charge that can be assumed to be identical across every market. The American Gaming Association defines sportsbook hold as winnings after payouts, before taxes and other deductions; hold is a broader measure and should not be confused with a universal per-wager margin. American Gaming Association terminology guide
What does +7 or -7 mean?
Those figures usually describe a point spread. The favorite is listed with minus points and must win by more than that number for a spread wager to win. The underdog is listed with plus points and can win outright or lose by fewer points than the spread. With a favorite at -7, for example, a win by eight or more covers; a win by six or fewer does not. The opposing team at +7 covers if it wins outright or loses by six or fewer.

What is a push?
A push is an exact tie after applying the spread. If a team listed at -7 wins by exactly seven, the AGA’s example treats that spread wager as a push. How a push is handled can depend on the wager and the operator’s rules, so consult the applicable settlement terms. AGA terminology guide
What is the difference between a spread and a moneyline?
A spread wager is determined by a team’s result after adding or subtracting the posted points. A moneyline wager is simply on which team wins; there is no requirement to win by a particular margin. The odds still determine the price and potential profit. A close victory can win a moneyline bet while failing to cover the spread. AGA terminology guide

What does over/under mean?
An over/under, also called a total, is a wager on whether the two teams’ combined points will finish above or below a posted number. The winning side depends on the final total relative to that number. Do not assume how overtime or an exact tie is treated: Delaware Lottery rules, for example, say totals use the final score including overtime. That is a Delaware rule, not a nationwide settlement standard. AGA terminology guide; Delaware Lottery retailer wagering rules
What is a parlay?
A parlay combines multiple selections into one wager. Delaware Lottery describes it as “a single wager that links multiple wagers.” Under its explanation, every selection must win for the parlay to win; a losing leg loses the wager. How a winning parlay is priced depends on the offer and rules: Delaware’s parlay card uses fixed card odds, while FanDuel’s Indiana terms say its online parlay odds are calculated from the prices of the individual selections. Those are distinct examples, not one universal payout formula. Delaware Lottery parlay guide; FanDuel Indiana terms

Why did the line move?
“Line movement” means a posted market number or price changed between observations. The spread, moneyline, total, or odds price may change. The term describes what changed, not why it changed: without evidence about a particular game, a move should not automatically be attributed to injury news, public betting, or professional action.
The number or price displayed when you first look may differ from the one available later. FanDuel’s Indiana terms say online customers receive a betslip notification if selection odds change; notification practices and which price is accepted depend on the operator’s terms. Review the final betslip and confirm the displayed selection and price before submitting. FanDuel Indiana terms

Are college football bets and player props legal everywhere?
No. Legal availability, minimum age, eligible markets, and settlement rules depend on jurisdiction and operator. Pennsylvania’s code, for example, lists parlays, propositions, and straight bets among permitted formats under its framework and requires operators to explain permitted wager types and events. Delaware’s sports lottery rules set a minimum age of 21. These are examples from two jurisdictions, not rules for all states or betting products. Check your local regulator and the specific operator’s terms. Pennsylvania Code; Delaware Lottery rules
In a January 15, 2026 statement, the NCAA said that more than half of the 39 states with legalized sports betting, plus Washington, D.C., allowed individual college prop bets in some capacity. The NCAA also said the Louisiana, Maryland, Ohio, and Vermont commissions had banned individual college-athlete props since 2024. Those are the NCAA’s dated figures and advocacy position, not a current nationwide legal inventory. The NCAA argues that player props can raise risks of insider-information solicitation and spot-fixing; check current local rules for the markets available to you. NCAA statement, January 15, 2026
