Coolgardie Camel Farm is a by-appointment visitor experience in Coolgardie, Western Australia. Visitors can meet Noel “The Camel Man,” encounter the camels, see camel-related items and hear how camels helped the Goldfields develop. A Kalgoorlie Miner listing dated 3 October 2026 says owner Noel McKay began with two camels and an idea 40 years earlier, though it does not establish an exact opening date.
What visitors can expect
The Shire of Coolgardie describes a visit as a chance to meet Noel, hear stories about camels and the Goldfields, view camel-related items and get close to the animals. The farm is included in the Shire’s two-day Coolgardie itinerary as a visit by appointment.
A Kalgoorlie Miner report from 2017 described a one-hour visit that included meeting and learning about the camels, a camel ride and viewing 1890s memorabilia. That is a historical description, not confirmation that rides or the same tour format are available now.
How the farm began
A Kalgoorlie Miner listing for a feature published on 3 October 2026 says McKay started with two camels and an idea 40 years earlier, building the property into a local tourism experience. The listing does not give an exact founding date, so “40 years on” should be understood as the newspaper’s broad account rather than a dated anniversary.

Why camels matter to Coolgardie
Camels are part of the region’s transport history, not simply an attraction at the farm. In a 2020 account of Coolgardie’s historic statue installations, the Shire said camels were often used for transport and travelled along Bayley Street, the town’s main street. The Shire says gold was discovered in the Coolgardie area by Arthur Bayley and William Ford in September 1892. By 1898, it reports, Coolgardie had become Western Australia’s third-largest town, with two stock exchanges, three breweries, 26 hotels, seven newspapers and two hospitals. Those figures describe the town at the time, not the farm or its visitor numbers.

Arrange a visit and plan the rest of your day
The farm is listed as appointment-only; the Shire itinerary does not provide a farm-specific phone number, price or schedule. Ask the Shire Visitor Centre for current local visitor information, but note that it is not the farm’s booking service. The centre is listed at Warden’s Court, Bayley Street, Coolgardie, phone 08 9026 6090, Monday to Sunday 10 am–3 pm and closed public holidays; confirm its details before travelling. The Shire’s itinerary places the camel farm among other local stops, including the Goldfields Exhibition Museum, Ben Prior Park and the cemeteries. It suggests June to November as a cooler period for visiting Coolgardie generally; that is not a farm operating calendar. Ben Prior Park is listed by the Shire as open daily 9 am–4:30 pm, while Warden Finnerty’s Residence is listed as temporarily closed until further notice.
