The answer depends on the whole setup’s average power draw while it is actually streaming and the electricity rate on your bill. Measure the draw at the wall, calculate the energy used, and multiply by your local rate.
Calculate the electricity cost
Use this formula:
Energy (kWh) = average draw (W) × operating hours ÷ 1,000
Then multiply the energy in kilowatt-hours by the price you pay per kWh. For a 30-day estimate, use 720 hours; for a full year of continuous operation, use 8,760 hours. This estimates energy charges only—it does not include the mini PC, internet service, backup power, or other fixed charges.
For scale, Mini PC Lab’s 2026 guide illustrates that a 10 W device running all year at $0.12/kWh would use about $10.51 of electricity. That is an example calculation, not a current tariff for every location or a measured YouTube-streaming result. Mini PC Lab’s calculation and power guide

Example using your own measurement
If your complete setup averages 10 W, a 30-day month would use 7.2 kWh (10 × 720 ÷ 1,000). Multiply 7.2 by your applicable per-kWh rate to estimate the energy cost for that month. Replace 10 W with your measured average; this example is not a prediction of what a particular mini PC will draw.
Measure the setup while it streams
An adapter’s maximum capacity and a computer’s idle draw do not tell you what the system consumes during your actual stream. Measure at the wall while the encoder, scene, resolution, and frame rate you intend to use are running.

- Place a plug-in electricity monitor between the wall outlet and the mini PC’s power supply. Include peripherals in the measurement if you want to count them in the total. Mini PC Lab names the Kill A Watt P4460 and an energy-monitoring smart plug as examples of measurement tools; its guide includes affiliate links, and their current price and availability are not established here.
- Run the actual streaming setup for representative periods. Include startup and normal operation, and record average watts rather than relying on a brief peak or an idle-only reading.
- Multiply the average watts by the hours you plan to stream, divide by 1,000 to get kWh, then multiply by your electricity rate. State whether your estimate covers 30 days, a full year, or another period.
- When comparing two computers, measure them with the same workload, connected devices, meter, and tariff assumptions. Also weigh stream stability, upload reliability, noise and heat, and purchase cost—not power draw alone.
What published mini PC readings can—and cannot—tell you
Mini PC Lab’s 2026 guide reports wall-socket readings of 6.2 W at idle, 8–10 W under light load, and 18–22 W under full CPU load for a Beelink EQ14. Its idle protocol used ten minutes of stable idle on Proxmox VE 8.x with no virtual machines running. The figures describe that guide’s measurement conditions, not the power draw of an ambient-music stream or its encoding workload.
The same guide gives 5.5–6.5 W as an idle range for generic Intel N100 mini PCs in its home-server measurement context. That is not a guarantee for every N100 device, nor a streaming measurement. Configure and verify the YouTube stream
YouTube’s setup guidance says to create or select a stream in Studio, then enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key in the encoder, configure the encoder, and start it. Choose settings your internet connection can sustain: YouTube recommends testing upload speed, testing before going live, and monitoring stream health. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance
Bitrate, codec, and keyframes
For H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps, YouTube’s current encoder-settings table recommends a bitrate range spanning 5–14 Mbps across its minimum and recommended columns. For AV1 or H.265 at the same resolution and frame rate, the table gives 4–10 Mbps. These are YouTube ingestion recommendations, not an upload-speed measurement for your home connection and not an estimate of mini PC power use. Consult the table for the codec, resolution, and frame rate you choose; YouTube also lists RTMP/RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), supported codecs, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval. A simple ambient visual may be less complex to encode than fast-moving gameplay, but that does not establish how much power your particular computer will draw. Measure the actual stream rather than inferring consumption from the scene.
Plan around the archive limit
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A continuous 24-hour broadcast exceeds that condition, so do not assume YouTube will archive one uninterrupted 24/7 stream as a single video. Cost and reliability trade-offs
A mini PC keeps the stream under your control, but its electricity cost is only one part of the decision. Consider the hardware purchase, electricity, internet connection, and whether you can keep the machine and network available continuously. A measured low draw does not by itself show that a setup will remain stable or that it is the best choice for this workload; compare sustained stream stability and upload reliability too.
