There is no confirmed Prototype remaster announcement. Changes to the existing Steam release and its credits prompted fan speculation, but those clues do not establish that Activision is remastering the game or that an announcement is imminent.
Why are fans talking about a Prototype remaster?
The rumor centers on the existing PC version of Prototype, not a newly announced product. SteamDB identifies it as App ID 10150, developed by Radical Entertainment and published by Activision; its original release date is June 10, 2009. SteamDB’s app record displays an update dated August 14, 2026, but a record update alone does not say what changed or why.

The speculation began after surprise Steam updates and credit changes reported in 2025. PC Gamer said the updated credits included references to Ubisoft Connect contributors as well as Beenox, Demonware, and Iron Galaxy Studios. The article also reported that data-miners found development testing maps. Those details caught fans’ attention, but they do not reveal the scope or purpose of any work.
Do the Steam clues confirm a remaster?
No. Credits can suggest that people or companies were involved with a release, but they do not establish that a remaster is in development, much less provide an announcement date. PC Gamer cautioned: “Credits updates for a 16 year old game obviously fall far short of an official confirmation.”

As of October 8, 2026, the sources reviewed for this article establish no official remaster announcement, product page, platform list, or release window. The references reported by PC Gamer are clues behind the rumor, not an Activision confirmation. The reported Ubisoft Connect reference also should not be treated as proof that a currently available Ubisoft Connect edition exists.
What can players get on Steam now?
The Steam page is for the existing Prototype, not a remaster. Steam describes it as an action and adventure game for single-player play. Check the current Steam listing for its present availability and store details.

A formal announcement from Activision or an official product page would establish that a remaster is real. Until then, the Steam changes are best described as unconfirmed evidence that prompted speculation; they do not support a promised announcement or release timeline.
