Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is worth considering if you want precise, old-school-feeling platforming with a fresh set of movement tricks and playable characters. The limited review evidence praises its handling of Crash and Coco, but also flags demanding later stages and unevenness in some new mechanics. The right version depends on whether you value portability, technical features or a particular controller.
Is Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time worth playing?
For fans of precision platformers, the central appeal is familiar: guide Crash or Coco through carefully timed jumps and hazards. The game adds four Quantum Masks, which introduce new abilities, alongside wall running, rail grinding and rope swaying. Some stages also let you play as characters such as Neo Cortex.
In its October 1, 2020 review, Meristation assessed a PS4 Pro version provided by Activision. The reviewer praised Toys for Bob for capturing the series’ feel and singled out Crash and Coco’s controls, while finding that not all of the new mechanics and character sections worked equally well. That is one launch-era review, not a universal verdict.
A second Meristation review, published March 17, 2021, focused on the Switch conversion and described it as strong. Taken together, these two reviews suggest a solid fit for players who want a demanding Crash adventure, with some variation in how well its newer ideas land.

Is Crash Bandicoot 4 hard?
Meristation describes the later stages as challenging. That makes difficulty a real consideration if you prefer forgiving platforming, but the available reviews do not establish a single difficulty rating or a broad critic consensus. Expect the game to ask for careful timing and control, especially as its stages progress.

Activision lists versions for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Battle.net and Steam. The game is a platformer that initially released on October 2, 2020, and its story follows directly after Crash Bandicoot: Warped. For purchasing, Activision points buyers to the official game site or select retailers; check your region and the seller for current price and physical or digital availability.

Choose based on the features that matter to you rather than assuming the reviews establish one best platform:
- PS5: PlayStation lists support for up to native 4K at 60 FPS, faster loading, DualSense adaptive triggers and save transfer from PS4. These are listed capabilities, not a guarantee that every scene runs at those settings.
- Switch: The portable option. Meristation’s Switch review says the compared versions do not change levels, objects or extras, while advising buyers to weigh technical differences, preferred system and controller.
- Other listed platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS4, Battle.net and Steam are options if you prefer those systems or PC. The reviewed evidence does not provide a full performance comparison across them.
Activision’s launch announcements gave historical pricing context: the 2020 US MSRP was $59.99 for PS4 and Xbox One; the 2021 announcement listed $59.99 SRP for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and $39.99 SRP for Switch and PC preorders in select territories. Those are launch-era figures, not current prices.

In Meristation’s March 17, 2021 review, the Switch port was judged a strong conversion. The reviewer said the compared PS4, Xbox One and Switch versions had no changes to levels, objects or extras. The meaningful choice is therefore about technical differences, portability, system and controller preference—not exclusive stage content, according to that review.
Can you play offline?
Activision says internet access is needed for online leaderboards and Activision account registration. That does not mean all play requires an internet connection: the PlayStation listing marks offline play as enabled.
