Create a Massive Home for Hundreds of Pets in Dream PetHouse by Zynga

Dream PetHouse was Zynga’s early-2012 mobile social simulation about expanding a giant tree-house habitat, collecting animals, feeding and raising them, and sharing the result with friends. Here is how its building, growth, social, and free-to-play systems worked—and why it is no longer officially playable.

Dream PetHouse was Zynga’s early-2012 mobile game about turning a giant tree into a home for a growing collection of pets. Build rooms, connect habitats with bridges, collect animals, feed them, watch babies become adults, and preserve their milestones in albums. The crucial modern-status note is that Dream PetHouse is discontinued: Zynga ended support in 2013, so this is a history of the game rather than a current download guide.

Dream PetHouse was Zynga’s early-2012 mobile social simulation about building a giant tree-house habitat for a growing collection of animals. You added rooms, connected habitats with bridges, brought in new pets, fed them, watched them grow from babies into adults, and recorded their milestones. The “massive home for hundreds of pets” idea describes the game’s central scale fantasy: turning one tree into a layered, expanding home for an entire animal collection.

There is an important qualification for anyone searching for the game today: Dream PetHouse is a historical, discontinued title, not a current Zynga live service. Zynga ended support in 2013, and the game is no longer officially supported. The exact final server-shutdown date is unclear in surviving sources, so claims that give a precise date should be treated cautiously. (Historical status reference)

What Dream PetHouse was

Developed and published by Zynga, Dream PetHouse launched in early February 2012 during the company’s expansion from browser-based social games into mobile gaming. The best-preserved detailed platform listing identifies the game with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Some historical catalogs also associate it with Android, but the surviving compatibility information is strongest for iOS, so Android availability should not be presented as certain without an archived store source.

The premise combined three familiar ideas—pet collecting, home construction, and social-game progression—but put them inside a vertical tree house. Instead of caring for one animal in a conventional virtual-pet environment, the player gradually built a habitat capable of holding an expanding family of creatures. Contemporary coverage described the game as a free-to-play mobile title centered on a customizable tree home and collectible animals. (TouchArcade’s historical listing)

The core loop: build, populate, feed, and expand

Most of the game’s activity revolved around a repeating progression loop:

  1. Build new rooms and habitats. Expanding the tree house created space for additional animals and new parts of the collection.
  2. Connect areas with bridges. Bridges linked the different sections of the home and helped turn separate rooms into one explorable habitat.
  3. Bring in new pets. New animals—including baby animals introduced through rooms in the tree—gave the player a reason to keep enlarging the structure.
  4. Feed the animals. Feeding was part of the day-to-day care loop and helped move pets through their growth cycle.
  5. Raise babies into adults. The appeal was not only finding a pet but also watching it mature and contribute to the household’s longer-term progression.
  6. Preserve and share the result. Family albums, pet memories, customized trees, and social visits made the finished tree house something to maintain and show to others.

Some period descriptions explain the resource economy through fruit produced by the tree. That fruit could be fed to pets, while mature animals were described as contributing more effectively to economic progression. In practical terms, the system linked the visual growth of the habitat to the game’s resource loop: a larger, more mature collection helped support further construction and collecting. (Historical feature summary)

Why the tree house mattered

The tree was more than a backdrop. It provided the game’s organizing structure and gave ordinary room-building a distinctive vertical shape. A player’s progress could be read directly in the habitat: more rooms, more bridges, more animals, and a denser network of spaces arranged through the branches.

That design also supported the game’s miniature, storybook-like visual identity. A surviving artist portfolio documents work on miniature rooms, tree-house backgrounds and components, and animal design or animation. The available evidence supports describing Dream PetHouse as a carefully layered miniature environment, but it does not justify attributing undocumented production roles or specific art direction to individuals. (Surviving Dream PetHouse portfolio material)

The result was closer to a light life simulation and collection game than to a detailed pet-care simulator. Feeding and raising animals mattered, but the larger objective was to create an impressive, populated habitat and keep the collection growing.

Collecting animals and preserving memories

Dream PetHouse used growth as part of its collection appeal. A newly acquired baby was not simply a static decoration: the player could care for it, watch it mature, and preserve memories of its earlier stage. The game’s surviving feature descriptions mention family albums for keeping baby-pet memories, pet-family collections, golden frames, and customization options for trees and habitats.

These systems gave the collection a sense of continuity. The player was encouraged to remember not only which animals had been acquired but also how they had developed. Golden frames and albums turned selected pets and milestones into display pieces, while the expanding tree house served as the main visual record of progress.

The emphasis on “hundreds” should be understood as the game’s intended collection fantasy rather than a verified maximum supported by the surviving documentation. Available descriptions clearly emphasize a large, growing population of pets, but they do not establish a reliable final animal-count limit.

Facebook and the social-game rhythm

Facebook integration was a period feature of Dream PetHouse. Players could visit friends’ tree homes, receive help with raising pets, and use social interactions to support customization and progression. Those visits made the tree house partly social: the habitat was not only a private project but also something to compare, share, and develop with assistance from friends.

That distinction matters now. Facebook support should be described as part of the game’s original design, not as an active requirement or evidence of a functioning modern community. Because the game was discontinued, contemporary social features should not be confused with currently available online services.

Free-to-play design and historical purchases

Contemporary coverage described Dream PetHouse as free to play. Historical summaries refer to progression-related purchases involving resources such as fruit, seeds, or coins, while period app coverage characterized purchases as a way to accelerate advancement that would otherwise be limited by waiting or time-based progression. These are historical monetization details, not current purchase options.

The design therefore followed the familiar early-2010s social-game pattern: build toward the next room or habitat, gather or wait for resources, care for the collection, and optionally spend to shorten the wait. Since there is no active official product listing, readers should not assume that old payment systems, accounts, or downloadable content remain usable.

Original iOS requirements

The preserved iOS listing states that Dream PetHouse required a network connection and supported the following historical devices:

Historical requirement Details
Operating system iOS 4 or later
iPhone iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and iPhone 4S
iPod touch Third- and fourth-generation iPod touch
Tablet iPad
Connectivity A network connection was required

These specifications describe the original release environment. They are not a recommendation to install the game on a modern iPhone or iPad, and they do not demonstrate that the title can still be downloaded, authenticated, or played. A compatible vintage device alone would not restore the discontinued servers or Facebook functionality.

Its place in Zynga’s mobile expansion

Dream PetHouse appeared while Zynga was broadening its mobile portfolio alongside other social and mobile games. Later company-history reporting described Zynga’s wider shift away from older web and social-game models toward mobile gaming. Dream PetHouse fits that transition: it translated the company’s familiar construction, collection, resource, and friend-visit mechanics into a touch-oriented habitat game. Period coverage compared the tree-house concept with other social-building games, including Tecmo Koei’s Jollywood. That comparison is useful for understanding the competitive context, but it does not mean the games were technically identical or that any infringement was established. Zynga’s launch messaging acknowledged that tree-house and pet themes had precedents while presenting Dream PetHouse as its own combination of the two. (Contemporary preview coverage)

Can you play Dream PetHouse today?

Not through an officially supported modern release. Zynga discontinued Dream PetHouse in 2013. The old iOS requirements, historical app listings, and references to Android do not amount to a current download or a working service. Unofficial copies or archived installers may exist elsewhere, but their availability, safety, legality, and ability to connect to the original game are not established by the surviving references.

The U.S. DREAM PETHOUSE trademark record identifies Zynga as the owner for computer-game software and online entertainment services. The registration was later cancelled under Section 8 in May 2019. That is a status fact about the trademark registration; it does not prove that every related right was abandoned, nor does it authorize unofficial downloads or copies. (Trademark record)

Why the game remains notable

Dream PetHouse’s memorable idea was not simply “collect cute animals.” It made the home itself the collection’s container and progression map. Every new room changed the scale of the habitat; every bridge made the tree feel more connected; every mature animal represented both a cared-for pet and another step in the resource economy.

That combination explains why the title is still searchable despite its short-lived service history. It offered a compact version of Zynga-era social gaming in which construction, waiting, visiting friends, collecting, and sharing were all tied to one image: a huge, personalized tree house full of animals. Today, it is best approached as an archival example of early mobile social simulation rather than as a current game with a recoverable official download.

Frequently Asked Questions

What was Dream PetHouse?

Dream PetHouse was a historical free-to-play mobile game by Zynga. Players expanded a tree-house habitat with rooms and bridges, collected pets, fed them, raised babies into adults, preserved memories in albums, and visited friends’ homes through Facebook integration.

Can you still play Dream PetHouse officially?

No. Zynga discontinued Dream PetHouse in 2013, and it is no longer an officially supported live game. The exact final server-shutdown date is not reliably established by the surviving sources.

Was Dream PetHouse available on Android?

The strongest surviving platform evidence is for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, with historical compatibility listed as iOS 4 or later and a network connection required. Some catalogs also associate the game with Android, but that availability is less securely documented.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Was Dream PetHouse free to play?

Historical coverage describes purchases involving resources such as fruit, seeds, or coins, primarily to speed up progression that could otherwise be time-gated. Those details describe the original service and are not current purchase options.

The Bottom Line

Dream PetHouse was Zynga’s discontinued 2012 tree-house pet-collection game. Its defining loop was to build rooms and bridges, populate them with animals, feed and mature those pets, and preserve their memories while visiting friends’ habitats through period Facebook features. It ended support in 2013, so the game’s appeal today is historical and nostalgic—not a currently playable Zynga service.
