There is no single graphics preset that fixes every Crimson Desert problem: the right settings depend on your platform, game build, hardware, resolution, and frame-rate target. This guide is for PC troubleshooting and reflects official patch notes through version 2.02.00, dated September 11, 2026; it is not a fresh benchmark or a tested universal preset. That update fixed a crash when starting a new game with DLSS Frame Generation enabled.

Start by identifying your setup

Before changing settings, write down the platform, game version, GPU and driver, output resolution, display mode, and the frame rate you want to maintain. A setting that helps one PC may hurt image quality or performance on another, and PC, PlayStation, and Xbox advice is not interchangeable.

Pearl Abyss’s March 10, 2026 performance-specifications notice says its PC figures come from internal testing, can vary with hardware, software configuration, and individual graphics settings, and require DirectX 12. The published figures are not a promise of performance on a particular machine. Check the current official requirements against your hardware rather than relying on a preset intended for a different system.

Use a controlled troubleshooting baseline

  1. Update the game and graphics driver. Record the game version shown by your launcher so you can compare your issue with the relevant patch history.
  2. Choose a repeatable starting point. Note your current graphics options, resolution, display mode, and target frame rate. If you change several options together, you will not know which one affected the result.
  3. Change one option at a time. Compare the same scene under the same resolution and display mode. This makes changes to upscaling, ray reconstruction, frame generation, or lighting easier to evaluate.
  4. Restart when needed, then check that the change persisted. Version 1.00.03 documented fixes for settings that failed to save or were not retained after a restart. If an option reverts, check the current build and verify it again in the game before treating the change as applied.

Choose settings around the problem you want to solve

If your priority is a steadier frame rate

First confirm that your hardware and configuration are appropriate for the resolution you are using. Then test the game’s available upscaling or frame-generation options individually, if supported by your system. These features are not interchangeable: compare the displayed image and motion as well as performance, and do not assume a setting that helps one GPU or resolution will help another.

Ray-traced lighting and ray reconstruction are separate considerations from a basic performance target. Version 1.08.00 added a PC option called “Raytraced Sun/Moon Light Shadows” under Settings > Graphics. The patch history establishes that the option was added, but does not establish its performance cost or image-quality benefit on a given PC. Test it against your own target instead of assuming it should always be enabled or disabled.

If your priority is image clarity

Compare the same scene at the same output resolution while changing one upscaling or ray-reconstruction option at a time. Look for stable detail in fine objects and edges as well as clarity in motion; a still image alone may not reveal flicker. Avoid treating a historical fix as proof that an issue remains on your current build.

Fixes and checks by symptom

The issues below are grounded in dated patch notes. They describe reported historical problems and fixes, not a claim that every current player will encounter them.

Symptom What the patch history says What to check
Blurry image or flicker with DLSS and Ray Reconstruction Pearl Abyss’s March 30, 2026 Steam hotfix, version 1.01.02, said graphics quality with NVIDIA Ray Reconstruction and DLSS was partially improved. It named blur in certain environments, flicker where sky met clouds, and flicker when chimney smoke overlapped nearby objects; the notes said related issues would continue to be investigated. Check that the game is on a current build. If the symptom persists, compare the same scene with the relevant options changed one at a time and record the result; the hotfix did not claim every case was resolved.
Settings revert after using Default or restarting Version 1.00.03, dated March 23 and revised March 25, 2026, documented fixes for settings not saving correctly after using Default and for resolution or upscaling settings not being retained after restart. Apply the option in-game, restart if relevant, and reopen the settings menu to verify it stuck. If it does not, confirm your game version before trying old workarounds.
Crash starting a new game with DLSS Frame Generation Version 2.02.00, dated September 11, 2026, says this crash was fixed. Confirm the game has updated to that version or later. The patch note documents a specific crash fix; it does not establish that every launch crash has the same cause.
Visual noise on armor, especially indoors Version 2.02.00 lists a fix for visual noise on armor that was particularly noticeable indoors, in its “Others” section. Check the current build and compare the same armor and indoor scene. The note does not identify a particular graphics control as the cause.
Wrong resolution, monitor output, or misaligned display Version 1.00.03 documented fixes for monitor detection or output problems at some resolutions and cut-off or misaligned displays in several window modes. Check the selected resolution and display mode in-game, then verify the result after restarting. Consult current patch notes before applying a workaround aimed at an older version.
Missing character equipment or cats at the lowest quality setting Version 1.00.03 said the minimum performance-quality setting could make character equipment and cats invisible. If this occurs, check the build and compare a higher quality setting. The patch history identifies the symptom but does not establish that it affects every system.

Keep console advice separate from PC settings

Pearl Abyss’s version 1.00.03 notes give a conditional recommendation specifically for PS5 and Xbox. They say 120 Hz output is optional and requires a capable display and adequate bandwidth, such as HDMI 2.1. For Balanced Mode fluctuating between 30 and 40 FPS, the notes suggest enabling 120 Hz if supported, or turning off V-Sync in a VRR-supported environment to improve smoothness above 40 FPS. This is console-specific guidance from those dated notes, not a PC recommendation or a guarantee for every display. Check current platform notes and confirm your display supports the relevant mode.

How to compare settings without guessing

  • Use one repeatable scene and keep resolution, display mode, and target frame rate unchanged.
  • Change only one setting between comparisons, then record both what the image looks like and whether performance meets your target.
  • Include the game version, GPU, driver, and settings in your notes so results are meaningful if you revisit them after an update.
  • Recheck after patches: the version 1.00.03, 1.01.02, 1.08.00, and 2.02.00 notes show that settings persistence, rendering, and available options changed over time.

Digital Foundry’s March 27, 2026 PC performance review covers example systems and optimized settings, but it predates version 2.02.00. Its results should not be treated as a current preset without checking the actual comparisons against your build and hardware.
