Crimson Desert does not have a confirmed official co-op mode. A community project documents an unofficial two-player co-op mod for the Windows Steam version. It connects players through Steam P2P: the host owns the shared world, while the joining player takes over an existing companion character. Movement and some combat-related state are documented as working, but quest progress, cutscenes, world interactions and receiver-side fast travel remain incomplete. The project is unofficial, patch-dependent, and its documented features have not been independently tested here.
How the co-op mod works
The project’s README describes a host-led session rather than a second full player character joining an officially networked campaign. The host starts the session in-game; the other player joins through a Steam friend invite or Steam ID. The joining player then controls an existing companion entity—Oongka, Yann or Naira—while selected game state is synchronized between the two game instances. The project describes Steam peer-to-peer networking and a host-authoritative model, meaning the host’s game state is the source of truth for enemies, world interactions and damage validation. These details are the maintainer’s account, not independently verified live-game results. Project README

That design shapes what co-op means in practice: player two occupies a companion slot, and the mod synchronizes selected data rather than turning the entire campaign into a shared multiplayer experience. The README lists position synchronization, companion hijacking, damage tracking, enemy HP synchronization, an overlay and Steam P2P as working with verified offsets. It also describes optional or experimental systems; capturing and sending an event is not the same as applying it correctly on the other player’s game.
What is documented as working—and what is not
The project README identifies several major gaps. They matter most if you expect both players to advance the story, see the same scenes or interact with the world in lockstep. The statuses below reflect the maintainer’s documentation, not a compatibility test or guarantee for every game build.

| Feature | Documented status | What that means for players |
|---|---|---|
| Position and companion control | Position synchronization and companion hijacking are listed as working. | The joining player controls an existing companion entity; this is not a separately implemented full player character. |
| Combat state | Damage tracking and enemy HP synchronization are listed as working. | Some combat-related state is synchronized, but the project does not claim a finished, fully shared campaign. |
| Quest progress | Receive-side implementation is a stub; the README calls for further investigation of the quest manager. | Do not assume the joining player receives or advances the host’s quest state. |
| Cutscenes | Receive-side implementation is a stub, and the trigger function has not been identified. | Shared or synchronized story scenes are not established. |
| World interactions | Receive-side implementation is a stub. | The project does not document complete synchronization of interactive objects or other world actions. |
| Fast travel | An opt-in hook captures and broadcasts the host’s waypoint, but receiver-side application is log-only because the native apply function has not been identified. | Capturing a waypoint does not mean the other player is actually fast-traveled to it. |
| Animation | Cross-model synchronization is incomplete; passthrough is the default, and experimental evaluator work does not resolve differing animation IDs across models. | Do not expect companion animations to match reliably between different character models. |
| Mounts and dragon HP | These areas are experimental or opt-in. Mount status can appear in the overlay, but remote visual mount representation is not synchronized. | Mount-related display or data is not evidence of a complete shared mount experience. |
In short, the README documents selected movement and combat synchronization, not reliable synchronization of story progression, scenes and world activity. It also flags areas requiring further investigation or live-process testing. Because the mod depends on game internals, its behavior can change when the game is patched.
Requirements and documented setup
The repository documents Windows 10 or 11 and the Steam version of Crimson Desert. Both players need the mod installed. The README describes installation through JSON Mod Manager or manual installation with an ASI loader; it gives F7 as the in-game session control and F8 as the overlay toggle. These are project-specific instructions and may change, so consult the current project README for the latest steps and files before installing.

- Check platform and version: use the Windows Steam edition, and confirm the mod’s README supports your current game build.
- Install the mod on both PCs: follow the README’s JSON Mod Manager or manual ASI-loader instructions. Do not assume a one-sided installation is sufficient.
- Start and join: the host starts the session in-game, then invites the friend through Steam or shares a Steam ID. The README identifies F7 for this flow.
- Use the overlay if needed: the project identifies F8 as the overlay key; check the README for current controls and troubleshooting.
The maintainer warns that other ASI mods hooking overlapping game functions can conflict. The README lists compatibility with JSON Mod Manager, CDUMM and most PAZ-based mods, but that is not a guarantee for every combination or game update.

Pearl Abyss announced Crimson Desert’s worldwide launch for March 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, Epic Games Store and ROG Xbox Ally. That platform list describes the game’s availability; it does not establish support for this Windows-and-Steam mod on consoles or other editions. A later GamesRadar+ report says Pearl Abyss sees “significant potential for expansion into multiplayer modes.” The report describes multiplayer as a substantial technical initiative involving server architecture, balance, cross-platform stability and live-service operations; it also says the company’s immediate development priority was DLC and other pipelines. That is reported interest, not confirmation of a feature, release window or promise. GamesRadar+ report on multiplayer potential
Some older descriptions of the game’s multiplayer plans come from a translated 2020 interview with co-producer SeongWoo Lee. In that pre-release discussion, Lee described Macduff’s journey as single-player with optional multiplayer content and shared levels, items and skills between modes. He said, “Macduff’s journey itself is single player. Of course, there are parts where you can get help from other players, but the bulk of this is single-player.” That interview is historical design context, not evidence of the released game’s current structure. 2020 interview with SeongWoo Lee
