A February 3, 2026 report said Crimson Desert’s Deluxe Edition was listed as an Xbox Play Anywhere title ahead of its planned March 19 launch. That is a dated report, not a guarantee about the current listing: check the game’s live Xbox Store page in your region before buying. Play Anywhere can let one eligible digital purchase work across Xbox and Windows PC, but support is specific to each game.
What Xbox Play Anywhere does
For a supported digital purchase, Xbox Play Anywhere lets you play the game on compatible Xbox consoles, Windows PC, and supported gaming handhelds without buying the same game again. Microsoft says saves, add-ons, and achievements carry across devices. The exact devices and terms depend on the title’s current listing.
In a January 21, 2026 announcement, Microsoft said, “Over 1,000 games now support Xbox Play Anywhere,” describing that as the catalog at that time. It is a dated company figure, not an independently audited or current count. Xbox’s January 22, 2026 Developer Direct recap likewise described the feature as covering purchases through the Xbox or Windows store, with progress and listed entitlements carrying between supported devices.
What the Crimson Desert report established
Windows Central reported on February 3, 2026 that the Crimson Desert Deluxe Edition was listed as Xbox Play Anywhere for Xbox Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S, ahead of the game’s stated March 19, 2026 launch. The report is evidence of what that edition’s listing showed at that time; it does not establish that every edition qualifies or that the current listing remains unchanged. Check the live store entry before purchase.

The February report also described uneven third-party support, citing Resident Evil Requiem and some Yakuza re-releases as examples of gaps. Those are historical examples, not a current or complete list of games without support.
More games were reported opting in during 2026
In an October 2, 2026 update, Windows Central’s Jez Corden described a noticeable increase in new and older games receiving Play Anywhere support. The examples included The Witcher 3, Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, alongside upcoming titles.

Corden characterized developers’ adoption as organic and linked it to Microsoft explaining the feature to publishers at trade shows. That is reporting and analysis, not a measured adoption rate or an official guarantee that the named games remain supported in every region today. For a purchase decision, confirm the individual title’s listing.
How to verify a game before buying
- Open the game’s current Xbox Store listing for your region.
- Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere designation on the specific edition you plan to buy. Availability on Xbox alone does not mean the game qualifies.
- Check which platforms the listing identifies, including Xbox console, Windows PC, or supported handhelds, and review any edition-specific details.
- Confirm whether you are buying a digital license or relying on subscription access. These are different ways to access a game.
Play Anywhere ownership is different from Game Pass access
Game Pass provides access through a subscription; it does not mean you own a permanent license to each catalog game. Xbox Wire’s July 21, 2026 notice named games leaving the Game Pass library. When a title leaves, subscription access can end. A separately purchased game is a different entitlement, and leaving Game Pass does not make a title Play Anywhere. Check the store listing for Play Anywhere eligibility independently of the subscription catalog.
