Critical Role has joined LICHTHUND as a co-publisher of ROCKBEASTS, an upcoming single-player management RPG about guiding a grunge band through an alternative 1990s America. Gaming Trend reports a 2027 release window, but Steam currently lists the game only as “Coming soon,” without a launch date.
What Critical Role’s partnership means
Gaming Trend reports that Critical Role is co-publishing ROCKBEASTS with developer LICHTHUND. Steam’s current store listing also identifies LICHTHUND and Critical Role as the game’s publishers: ROCKBEASTS on Steam. The public credits establish their publisher roles, but do not specify the division of responsibilities or the terms of the partnership.
What kind of game is ROCKBEASTS?
Steam describes ROCKBEASTS as a single-player rock-and-roll management RPG set in an alternative version of 1990s America. Players guide a grunge band, arrange gigs, manage band members’ personalities and navigate the music industry. The central tension is between protecting creative freedom and pursuing commercial success, with choices that shape the band’s path.
The game is not yet available on Steam. Its store page has no dated release announcement.

When does ROCKBEASTS come out?
Gaming Trend reports that ROCKBEASTS is planned for release in 2027 (Gaming Trend’s report). Steam’s listing still says “Coming soon,” so 2027 is a reported release window, not a dated launch commitment on the store page.
The game’s Steam announcement feed says it was selected for the 2026 Tribeca Festival Games program (ROCKBEASTS Steam announcements). That is a development milestone, not confirmation of a release date.

How does Team17 fit in?
In July 2023, Team17 announced that it would publish LICHTHUND’s next game, which was then unannounced and in development for PC and consoles (Team17’s 2023 announcement). That announcement predates the public identification of ROCKBEASTS and Critical Role’s reported co-publishing partnership.
The public sources do not explain how the earlier Team17 announcement relates to the current publisher credits. They do not establish that Team17 has left the project, that one publisher has replaced another, or what responsibilities each company has.
