How the remaster changes the presentation
Argonaut’s announced visual changes are enhanced HD graphics and retro video modes designed to evoke the 1990s presentation. The studio does not publish a specific resolution, frame rate, texture policy or detailed comparison of the visual options, so those should not be treated as established specifications. Does the remaster change the gameplay?
The premise remains recognizable: Croc runs, jumps, climbs, swims and uses a tail-spin to rescue Gobbos from Baron Dante and the Dantinis. Argonaut lists 45 levels across five worlds and describes the experience as authentic gameplay. What the original asked players to do
The original Windows manual describes six Gobbos to find in each level, alongside white and color crystals, keys, switches, extra lives and optional secret areas. Its 100% completion description calls for collecting all Gobbos and jigsaw pieces, completing all secret levels and defeating all Guardians. Crocipedia adds a substantial archive
The remaster’s additions are not limited to changes made while playing. Crocipedia includes development documents, character and level concept designs, animation tests, promotional items, pre-release soundtrack material and interviews with contributors. Getting the Platinum Edition update
Argonaut’s FAQ says existing purchasers on platforms other than PlayStation receive the update automatically. On PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, previous purchasers can obtain the Platinum Edition version free through the PlayStation Store. Which version is the better fit?
- Choose the remaster if you want the updated presentation and camera and controls, plus the Crocipedia archive and Platinum Edition additions.
