Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →cryptuiwizard.dll is a genuine Microsoft Windows system component, not a Visual C++ Redistributable file or a DLL you should download from a random website. When cryptuiwizard.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair Windows first, then repair the particular application that displays the error.
The file is associated with Windows certificate and trust-interface functions. Its reported description is Microsoft Trust UI Provider, and legitimate copies normally belong in the Windows system directories rather than beside an application executable.
What the cryptuiwizard.dll error means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because cryptuiwizard.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cryptuiwizard.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading cryptuiwizard.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “cryptuiwizard.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These are Windows loader messages, not complete diagnoses.
“Missing” or “not found” can mean the file is absent, damaged, blocked, or the program cannot find one of its dependencies. “The specified module could not be found” may refer to a dependency rather than cryptuiwizard.dll itself. A “not designed to run on Windows” message commonly points to corruption, an incompatible architecture, or a file that has been replaced with the wrong build.

Before fixing it, check the affected copy
1. Identify whether Windows or one application is affected
Note the exact error and the program that shows it.
- If several Windows features or applications fail, suspect Windows component corruption.
- If only one game or application fails, its installation, launcher, permissions, or dependencies may be the problem.
- If the error began immediately after an update, driver installation, security alert, or software installation, record that change.
Do not assume that a particular game or application is a normal trigger for this file.
2. Check the expected system location
On 64-bit Windows, the native 64-bit copy normally belongs in:
%WinDir%System32
A 32-bit program running on 64-bit Windows normally uses the 32-bit system view, whose physical directory is:
%WinDir%SysWOW64
The names are confusing: System32 contains native 64-bit system files on 64-bit Windows, while SysWOW64 contains 32-bit system files. Windows handles this redirection for compatible programs.
Open File Explorer, click the address bar, enter each path, and look for cryptuiwizard.dll. Do not copy a file from one directory to the other merely because the name matches.
Public inventories show historical 32-bit and 64-bit builds from different Windows releases, but those records are not a complete current version list. The correct build is supplied by Windows servicing, installation media, or a repair process.
3. Check the signature before trusting an existing file
Right-click the file, choose Properties, and open Digital Signatures. A legitimate system copy should identify Microsoft as the signer. If the tab is absent, the signature is invalid, or the file is in an unusual application folder, do not replace or restore it blindly.

Fix 1: Install Windows updates and restart
Time needed: 10–30 minutes, depending on pending updates
Windows updates can restore missing protected components and repair a failed servicing operation.
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Click Check for updates.
- Install all available updates.
- Restart the computer, even if Windows does not immediately require it.
- Open the affected program again.
If Windows Update reports an error, run the Windows Update troubleshooter from Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters, if it is available on your version of Windows. Microsoft’s Windows Update instructions explain the supported update process.

Fix 2: Repair Windows with DISM and System File Checker
Time needed: 15–45 minutes
Microsoft recommends repairing the Windows component store with DISM before running System File Checker.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
- Select Yes if User Account Control asks for permission.
- Run this command:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish. Do not close the window if progress appears to pause.
- Run System File Checker:
sfc /scannow
- Wait until verification reaches 100 percent.
- Restart Windows and test the affected program.
DISM repairs the Windows component store. SFC checks protected system files and replaces damaged copies when a valid replacement is available. Microsoft documents this sequence in its System File Checker guidance and DISM repair instructions.
If SFC says it found and repaired corrupt files, restart and test again. If it says it could not repair some files, run DISM again after Windows Update completes, then repeat SFC. Persistent failures may require a matching Windows installation source or a repair reinstall.

Repeating SFC without understanding whether the component store is healthy usually adds little value. Outbyte PC Repair can provide a scan showing what needs attention, while the repair requires the full version; it is optional, and Windows Update plus DISM and SFC remain the appropriate first-line repair path.
Fix 3: Repair or reinstall the affected application
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
If only one program reports cryptuiwizard.dll, Windows may be intact and the application may be locating the component incorrectly or have damaged files.
First use the program’s own repair option:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the affected application.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options, if offered.
- Select Repair.
- Launch the program again.
For a game, open its official launcher and use Verify, Scan and repair, or Repair files. The exact wording depends on the launcher.
If repair does not help:
- Back up the application’s settings or save data if necessary.
- Uninstall the application from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the installer from the application developer’s official source.
- Install the program again.
- Apply its latest update before testing.
Do not place a downloaded cryptuiwizard.dll beside the program’s executable. Windows commonly searches the application directory before system directories, so an incorrect private copy can make the problem worse.
If reinstalling the application fixes the error, the original cause was likely its installation or launcher rather than a missing Visual C++ file.
Fix 4: Check Windows Security quarantine
Time needed: 5–15 minutes
Antivirus software can quarantine a system file, although the filename alone does not establish that this happened.
- Open the Start menu and search for Windows Security.
- Open it and select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Expand any detection that mentions
cryptuiwizard.dll. - Confirm the path, detection name, and details before taking action.
Restore the file only when you have verified that it is a genuine Microsoft-signed system file and the detection is a false positive. Microsoft warns that allowing an unsafe file can expose the device. Its Protection History guidance explains these choices.
If the path is an application folder, the signature is missing, or the detection indicates malware, do not restore it. Update Microsoft Defender and run a Full scan. If malware is suspected or the scan cannot complete normally, use Microsoft Defender Offline from Virus & threat protection → Scan options.

Fix 5: Update Windows drivers when the error follows a system change
Time needed: 10–30 minutes
A driver is not normally the source of cryptuiwizard.dll, but an update or hardware change can expose broader Windows or application problems.

- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
- If the problem began after an update, open Properties → Driver → Roll Back Driver, when available.
Use Windows Update or the hardware manufacturer’s official support page for drivers. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and show what needs attention, while driver installation requires the full version; it is optional and does not replace repairing the affected application or Windows itself.
Why Visual C++, DirectX, and .NET are usually not the answer
cryptuiwizard.dll is a Windows component, not a Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable file. Reinstalling Visual C++ should not be the normal response to this specific error.
DirectX and .NET repairs are also not justified solely because this filename appears in the message. Install or repair those runtimes only when the affected application’s official requirements or a separate error identifies them as missing.
A program can have a missing dependency even when cryptuiwizard.dll exists. If the message says “specified module could not be found,” inspect the application’s own requirements and event logs rather than installing unrelated runtime packages.
Why regsvr32 does not normally apply
Do not register cryptuiwizard.dll with regsvr32.
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. The available export information for cryptuiwizard.dll does not show that registration entry point. Running the command can therefore produce an entry-point error without repairing anything. Microsoft describes the command in its regsvr32 documentation.
The supported repair route is Windows servicing, DISM, SFC, and application repair.
Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
Use System Restore when the error started after a Windows update, driver installation, or software installation and a suitable restore point exists.
- Press Windows + R.
- Enter:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Confirm the restore point and select Finish.
- Allow Windows to restart.
System Restore changes system files, drivers, and settings, but it does not normally remove personal documents. Microsoft provides further details in its System Restore guidance.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 7: Repair Windows when DISM and SFC still fail
Time needed: 30 minutes to several hours
If DISM and SFC cannot repair the component:
- Record the exact SFC result.
- Review the CBS log if detailed evidence is needed.
- Try again with a matching Windows installation source for your edition and architecture.
- If the problem began recently, try System Restore.
- Use Microsoft’s supported option to reinstall the current version of Windows while preserving personal files and applications where that option is offered.
The correct choice depends on the Windows edition, installation state, and available recovery options. Microsoft documents the supported repair-reinstall process in Fix issues by reinstalling the current version of Windows.

Do not download cryptuiwizard.dll manually
Random DLL download sites can provide:
- The wrong 32-bit or 64-bit architecture
- An incompatible Windows build
- The wrong language or damaged file
- A file with no trustworthy Microsoft signature
- Malware disguised with a familiar filename
Manual copying can also hide the real problem, such as a damaged component store, missing dependency, failed update, or broken application installation. Windows should restore this file through Windows Update, DISM, SFC, matching installation media, or a supported repair installation.

FAQ
Is cryptuiwizard.dll a legitimate Windows file?
Yes. It is a Microsoft Windows component associated with trust and certificate user-interface functionality. A legitimate copy normally resides in System32 or, for the 32-bit system view on 64-bit Windows, SysWOW64.
Is it part of Visual C++ 2015?
No. The error should not normally be fixed by reinstalling Visual C++.
Should I copy the file into the game folder?
No. A downloaded copy may be unsafe or incompatible, and placing it beside an executable can cause Windows to load the wrong file.
Is the file 32-bit or 64-bit?
Both architectures exist in historical Windows file records. Use the copy supplied for your Windows architecture and the program’s system view. Do not substitute one for the other.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What if the file exists but the error continues?
Check the file path and digital signature, then repair the application. The message may identify a missing dependency rather than a missing cryptuiwizard.dll.
What information should I collect before asking for help?
Record the exact error text, affected application, Windows version and architecture, file path, digital-signature result, recent system changes, antivirus history, and the final DISM and SFC messages. This evidence distinguishes Windows corruption from an application-specific failure.
