When Windows reports that cseavchd.dll is missing or could not be loaded, repair the Grass Valley application that installed it instead of downloading a replacement DLL.
Identify what cseavchd.dll belongs to
Public software inventories show this file inside Grass Valley products, including EDIUS 6 and EDIUS 7. Other inventories associate it with Grass Valley AVC-HD Codec components used by GV Switcher Menu and K-Frame-related software.

| Parent application | EDIUS or another Grass Valley video application |
| Expected location | The application’s own Grass Valley installation folder |
| Windows system folder | It should not normally be in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 |
| File identity | Grass Valley AVC Decoder or Grass Valley AVC-HD Codec |
| Correct repair | Repair or reinstall the matching Grass Valley product |
Example locations reported for older EDIUS installations include a Grass Valley EDIUS folder under C:Program Files (x86) or C:Program Files. The exact path depends on the product, release, and application architecture.
Do not treat a filename match as proof that a file is safe. A copy outside the expected Grass Valley application directory may be unrelated or malicious.

What the error means
You may see one of these messages:
- “The program can’t start because cseavchd.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because cseavchd.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading cseavchd.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “The procedure entry point … could not be located in the dynamic link library cseavchd.dll.”
- “cseavchd.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
These messages do not all indicate the same failure. A missing file may have been deleted, quarantined, or left out by an incomplete installation. A “specified module” message can also mean that cseavchd.dll exists but one of its dependencies is missing. An entry-point error usually points to an incompatible or mismatched codec build.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall the Grass Valley application
This is the most likely solution.
First, identify the application
- Read the title bar and full text of the error.
- Check which shortcut you used to start the program.
- Right-click the shortcut and select Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, inspect Target to identify the executable.
- If the error appears during startup, open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - Check Startup apps for an old Grass Valley or EDIUS launcher.
- If necessary, inspect Event Viewer by right-clicking Start, selecting Event Viewer, and opening Windows Logs and Application.
Do not reinstall a random EDIUS release before identifying the program that is failing. An older executable may require the codec build installed with that particular product release.
Use Windows repair or change options
- Press
Win+R. - Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Find EDIUS, GV Switcher, K-Frame software, or the Grass Valley product named by the error.
- Right-click it, or select it and look for Repair, Change, or Modify.
- Complete the installer’s repair process.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch the Grass Valley application again.
On Windows 11, you can also open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, select the application’s three-dot menu, and look for Advanced options, Repair, or Modify. These controls are not available for every older desktop installer.
If repair is not offered:
- Save your project files and application settings if the product provides that option.
- Open Control Panel → Programs and Features.
- Uninstall the affected Grass Valley product.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer or an installer obtained from Grass Valley’s official support and download service.
- If the installer asks to remove an older version, follow its instructions.
- Run the setup executable as administrator if required.
- Restart again before testing the application.
For older EDIUS packages, the installer may consist of several downloaded files that must be kept together. Use the setup executable supplied for the same product release rather than extracting cseavchd.dll from another installation.

Open the installation folder shown by the application shortcut or installer and check whether cseavchd.dll is present there. The stronger test is launching the application and opening the media or project that previously triggered the error.
If the file is present but the same error remains, do not copy it into a Windows folder. Continue with the architecture, dependency, and quarantine checks below.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Antivirus software can remove or quarantine a codec file after an update, cleanup, or scan.
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent actions involving
cseavchd.dll, EDIUS, or a Grass Valley installation directory. - Expand the detection to see its path and action.
- Compare the path with the expected application folder.
- Scan the installer and the affected file before allowing anything back.
Microsoft documents Protection history and file restoration in its Windows Security guidance.

Restore the file only when its origin is verified and it came from the official Grass Valley installation. Do not disable antivirus protection casually. If the file is immediately quarantined again, leave it quarantined, obtain a clean official installer, update security definitions, and contact Grass Valley or the security vendor if the detection appears incorrect.
Fix 3: Match the application version and architecture
A Grass Valley executable and its codec components must be compatible. Do not assume that a file from a newer or older EDIUS installation will work with the program currently installed.
Check the executable path:
- Right-click the application shortcut.
- Select Properties.
- Open the Shortcut tab and note Target.
- Use File Explorer to inspect the surrounding installation directory.
- Compare the folder with the product and release shown in Programs and Features.
A path under Program Files (x86) commonly indicates a 32-bit application installation, while Program Files is commonly used for 64-bit applications. That folder name alone does not prove the architecture of every codec file. Public metadata for cseavchd.dll is inconsistent, so do not rely on an online version, size, hash, or bitness claim as a universal specification.
The practical fix is to reinstall the same Grass Valley product and release that owns the failing executable. Do not copy a DLL from another computer, another EDIUS version, or a different architecture.

Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Fix 4: Determine whether a dependency is missing
If the error says “The specified module could not be found” while cseavchd.dll is visibly present, a dependency may be missing.
First, repeat the official application repair. Then read the complete error text for names such as:
MSVCP*.dllVCRUNTIME*.dllapi-ms-win-crt-*.dll
Only install a Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable when the diagnostic identifies a matching Microsoft runtime. Microsoft provides architecture-specific packages and explains the requirements in its Visual C++ Redistributable documentation. The x86 package is for 32-bit applications, and the x64 package is for 64-bit applications.
Installing Visual C++ does not recreate cseavchd.dll. It only addresses a missing Microsoft runtime dependency when the error actually points to one.
Fix 5: Repair protected Windows components
This is a secondary check because cseavchd.dll is associated with a third-party application, not Windows itself.

- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- In the same elevated window, run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Grass Valley application again.
Microsoft documents this order in its System File Checker and DISM instructions. These commands repair protected Windows components. They generally will not restore a missing codec from an EDIUS directory.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can make troubleshooting harder. If you want a guided scan while you are identifying damaged Windows components, Outbyte PC Repair can show what its scan finds; repair is handled by the full version, and reinstalling the Grass Valley application remains the definitive fix for this file.

A graphics or capture-device driver does not normally supply cseavchd.dll, so Device Manager is not the first repair location. Use it only when the application also reports display, capture, hardware acceleration, or device initialization errors.
Recommended Free Tools
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters and, if relevant, Sound, video and game controllers.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Properties and open the Driver tab.
- Check the provider, date, and status.
- Use Update driver only with a driver supplied by the hardware manufacturer, or uninstall and reinstall the correct official driver if the device is malfunctioning.
- Restart Windows and test EDIUS again.
Driver hunting means checking several hardware models, architectures, and release packages by hand. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for outdated drivers and identify available installs; the full version performs the driver installation, but a driver update is not a substitute for reinstalling the Grass Valley product.
Fix 7: Use System Restore after a known system change
System Restore is useful when the file disappeared immediately after an update, cleanup, failed installation, or security event.
- Press
Win+R. - Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure began.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the changes.
- Select Finish if the restore point is appropriate.
- Test the application after Windows restarts.
Microsoft explains this process in its System Restore documentation. System Restore does not replace a proper Grass Valley reinstall when the application installation is incomplete.
What not to do
Do not download the DLL from a random repository
Standalone DLL sites can provide malware, the wrong product version, the wrong architecture, or a file with no trustworthy installation history. Even a genuine-looking copy may not match the executable’s expected exports or dependencies.
The safe source is the original Grass Valley installer or Grass Valley’s official support and download service. Restore the parent application, not just the filename.
Do not copy it to System32 or SysWOW64
Those folders are not a general-purpose repair location for application codecs. Copying the file there can create conflicts, hide the real installation problem, and expose other programs to an unverified binary.
Do not use regsvr32 by default
regsvr32 applies to DLLs that specifically implement self-registration, commonly certain COM or ActiveX in-process servers. A codec or runtime component is not automatically self-registering.
Registering cseavchd.dll will not repair a missing dependency, wrong architecture, corrupt file, incomplete EDIUS installation, or missing application files. Use it only if the Grass Valley documentation for the exact product explicitly requires registration.
Do not install Windows Features at random
Open Settings → System → Optional features only when a separate error specifically names a Windows feature. Enabling legacy components will not normally recreate a Grass Valley codec.
FAQ
Is cseavchd.dll a Windows file?
No. It is associated with Grass Valley AVC/AVCHD codec technology and is normally installed inside the relevant Grass Valley application directory.
Does it belong to EDIUS?
Public inventories show it in EDIUS 6 and EDIUS 7, as well as some other Grass Valley software. That does not prove that every copy belongs to one exact EDIUS release.
Should I install Visual C++ to fix it?
Only when the error also names a missing Microsoft runtime file. Visual C++ Redistributables do not contain cseavchd.dll.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?
A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Why does Windows say the module is missing when the file exists?
A dependency loaded by cseavchd.dll may be missing, or the file may be incompatible or corrupt. Repair the matching Grass Valley installation first.
What if the error appears after uninstalling EDIUS?
Check startup entries and scheduled tasks for a leftover Grass Valley launcher. Remove the orphaned application through its official uninstaller, or reinstall and then uninstall it cleanly if the uninstaller is damaged.
What information should I provide for further support?
Record the exact error, application and version, Windows edition and build, executable path, DLL path, whether antivirus quarantined it, and any dependency named in the message. This distinguishes a missing file from a wrong version, missing dependency, or unsupported legacy installation.
