Spoilers: This guide names major story branches and describes broad ending outcomes. Cyberpunk 2077’s base-game finale has several routes, while Phantom Liberty adds its own branching outcomes and a separate conclusion for V called The Tower. The choices that matter most are the allies and questlines you develop before Nocturne OP55N1, your decisions during Phantom Liberty’s Firestarter, and what you decide at Mikoshi.
How the endings are structured
The base-game finale begins with Nocturne OP55N1, when V meets Hanako at Embers. The allies and routes available there depend on the relationships and questlines you have pursued. Those routes lead through different missions and epilogues; at Mikoshi, the central decision is whether V returns to their body or lets Johnny keep it. That choice shapes the broad outcome, though the Arasaka route has its own final offer.
Phantom Liberty is optional. Its choices affect the expansion’s characters and can unlock The Tower, a separate conclusion for V. Completing the expansion does not automatically end the main story.
Base-game ending routes
Use this map to distinguish the way into the finale from its outcome. The RPG Site ending guide covers the base routes and their unlock conditions.

What the final Mikoshi choice means
- V returns to the body: This leads to the broad Sun or Star outcome families, depending on the route and epilogue. The Star is associated with leaving Night City with the Aldecaldos; the Sun is associated with V’s Night City/Afterlife path.
- Johnny keeps the body: This leads to Temperance, in which Johnny goes on without V in the body.
- Arasaka route: The Devil ending has its own Arasaka-centered resolution and final offer, rather than following the same outcome pattern as the other routes.
These names describe broad outcome families, not a simple ranking. None is objectively the best choice; they differ in who is with V, whether V stays in Night City or leaves, and what happens to V and Johnny.
Phantom Liberty choices and The Tower
The expansion’s main branch begins during Firestarter. Your choice of whether to help Songbird escape or side with Reed to capture her changes the later main job and the resolutions available. The expansion therefore has several character outcomes of its own, separate from V’s base-game ending. Does The Tower return you to the open world?
No. CD Projekt Red Support says of Things Done Changed: “As there are no rewards gained during this epilogue, we allow the game and V’s story to simply end.” The support article also confirms that after completing the epilogue, you cannot return to the point of no return. Make a separate manual save before accepting the operation if you want to continue that playthrough. See CD Projekt Red Support’s explanation.

How to keep your options open
- Before Nocturne OP55N1: Make a manual save before meeting Hanako at Embers. This gives you a checkpoint before committing to a base-game assault route.
- Before the rooftop decision: Check whether Don’t Fear the Reaper is available. Its condition comes from the Chippin’ In conversation; if it is missing, the rooftop choice will not unlock it retroactively.
- Before committing in Firestarter: Make another manual save if you want to explore both major expansion branches. The choice determines which follow-up job and later resolutions you can reach.
- Before accepting Reed’s operation: Save separately if you want to preserve a version of the playthrough that can continue beyond The Tower.
The base-game routes do not require Phantom Liberty. The expansion adds the Firestarter branches and the possibility of The Tower, while leaving the original finale’s routes available.

Choose by the story you want to see, not by a supposed best ending. Pick Hanako’s plan for an Arasaka-centered resolution; call on Panam if you want the Aldecaldos involved; choose Rogue to follow the Afterlife assault with Johnny at the controls; or use Don’t Fear the Reaper for the hidden solo assault if you unlocked it. In Phantom Liberty, the Firestarter choice determines which character resolutions are within reach, and The Tower is available only through the qualifying Reed-aligned path and later treatment decision.

CD Projekt Red has continued to update ending details: its Patch 2.11 notes include an added Reed credits message for endings other than The Tower. The company also announced an Ultimate Edition guide covering the base game and Phantom Liberty.
