Yes, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is now a serious native Mac game. Released for Apple-silicon Macs on July 17, 2025, it includes the complete base game, Phantom Liberty, and major updates. But the right conclusion is not that Macs have replaced gaming PCs: a compatible Mac is a convenient and capable way to play, while a Windows gaming PC remains the better choice for ray tracing, path tracing, high refresh rates, mods, upgrades, and maximum image quality.
Check your Mac’s chip, unified memory, macOS version, and available storage before buying. “M1 Mac” is not a sufficient specification: a 16GB M1 MacBook Air and a 32GB M-series Max MacBook Pro belong to very different performance classes.
What launched on Mac?
This is a native macOS release optimized for Apple silicon, not simply the Windows game being run through a compatibility layer. CD PROJEKT RED released Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Mac on July 17, 2025, through the Mac App Store, Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store.

- Major gameplay, graphics, and quality-of-life updates included in the Ultimate Edition
The port uses Apple-platform technologies including Metal rendering, MetalFX upscaling, HDR/EDR support, Game Mode, native controller support, and spatial audio with supported AirPods. That makes this an important release for Mac gaming. It also does not make the Mac and Windows versions identical in performance, graphics settings, storefront behavior, or ecosystem support.
Mac system requirements: check the exact configuration
CDPR’s official requirements list Apple-silicon Macs with at least an M1 chip, 16GB of unified memory, and macOS 15.5 or later. The company’s tiers are targets rather than guarantees for every scene, display, or play session:

Read those rows literally. The M1/16GB baseline is a supported entry point aimed at 30fps; it is not a promise of high-quality 1080p gaming at 60fps. The recommended M3 Pro tier is a much more useful reference for readers who expect a broadly smooth 60fps-oriented experience.

A Mac with 16GB therefore does not have 16GB available exclusively to graphics, and demanding settings can make memory capacity important. Intel Macs are not supported, and an Apple-silicon Mac with only 8GB should not be treated as an acceptable substitute for the listed minimum.
Laptop design matters too. A thin, passively cooled MacBook Air can behave differently during a long session from an actively cooled MacBook Pro or a desktop Mac using a similar chip. The automatic For This Mac preset is a sensible starting point, but it cannot guarantee a fixed frame rate across every model.

Storage is an easy way to get caught out
The installation footprint depends heavily on the storefront:

The Mac App Store listing also advises allowing roughly 15% additional space during download and installation. A 256GB Mac may technically meet the final-size requirement, but after macOS, applications, photos, documents, and temporary installation files are counted, it may leave an uncomfortable amount of free space.
Check available storage before purchasing or starting the download. A nearly full internal SSD can cause installation and update failures. An external SSD may help, but use a fast, properly formatted drive. Mac App Store users have reported launch problems when the game was installed on an APFS case-sensitive volume; this is a reported troubleshooting possibility, not a universal official prohibition.
How good is the Mac version?
The Mac release is good enough to recommend to the right owner. It brings a technically demanding modern AAA game to Apple hardware in a native build, and stronger Macs can target a convincing 1080p-class 60fps experience using appropriate settings and upscaling.

That is different from saying every supported Mac delivers the same experience. Think of the hardware in tiers:

M1 with 16GB
Use the automatic preset first and set expectations around a 30fps experience. Lower output or internal resolution and upscaling may be necessary. Avoid ray tracing. This can be a worthwhile way to play if you already own the Mac, but it should not be compared with a discrete-GPU gaming system running at high settings.
Pro-class Macs
M1 Pro, M2 Pro, M3 Pro, M4 Pro, and related configurations are better candidates for 1080p-equivalent output and a 60fps target. Start with sensible settings and upscaling rather than immediately enabling every demanding effect. Sixty frames per second remains a target, not a universal guarantee.
Max and Ultra systems
Max and Ultra Macs with 32GB or more are the strongest candidates for higher-fidelity settings. They can make the Mac version an excellent portable or single-device option, particularly in a MacBook Pro or Mac Studio. Even here, a high-end Windows GPU is generally the stronger choice for path tracing, higher resolutions, and substantial frame-rate headroom.
Ray tracing is listed as available on M3 and newer chips in the Mac App Store description. Support does not mean that ray tracing—or especially path tracing—will be advisable at every resolution and preset. The exact chip, memory, output resolution, cooling, and upscaling mode all matter.

CDPR’s numbers are developer targets. Independent testing, including Tom’s Guide’s Mac-versus-Windows comparisons, supports the broader conclusion: the port can be impressive, but comparable Windows gaming hardware generally retains an advantage in graphics performance and fidelity. Any specific frame-rate claim should identify the exact Mac, memory, resolution, preset, ray-tracing status, operating system, and whether it represents an average, a low percentile, or a developer target.
Mac versus Windows PC
Here, “PC” means a Windows gaming desktop or laptop with a modern discrete Nvidia or AMD GPU—not every non-Mac computer. A cheap Windows laptop with integrated graphics may perform worse than a powerful Mac.

A Windows PC is the better platform if you want 1440p or 4K, high-refresh-rate play, aggressive ray tracing or path tracing, DLSS and broad graphics-option support, easy upgrades, extensive mod compatibility, or the widest possible game library. A Mac is the better practical choice when you already own compatible hardware, value quiet operation and portability, and would rather not buy or maintain another computer.
Do not buy an expensive Mac Studio or MacBook Pro solely for this one game if equivalent gaming performance is your main goal. A discrete-GPU Windows system will usually offer more gaming-oriented performance per dollar, although exact value depends on current hardware pricing.
Which storefront should you use?
The Mac App Store is convenient, but it is not automatically the best choice. The US listing showed a price of $82.90 on August 16, 2026; prices, taxes, sales, and regional availability can change.

If you already own the game on Steam, GOG, or Epic, check that storefront’s Mac entitlement and download options before buying again. CDPR confirms availability across those stores, but that announcement does not establish universal cross-buy rules for every purchase or edition. The Mac App Store is a separate purchase channel, so buying through Apple should not be assumed to transfer a Steam, GOG, or Epic license.
Save synchronization also needs careful wording. Cross-progression can depend on the storefront, your CD PROJEKT RED account, iCloud, and where the original save was created. Do not assume that a Mac copy automatically continues every PlayStation or Xbox save. Verify the terms for your specific storefront and account combination.
For product details, use the Mac App Store listing, the Steam product page, or the relevant live GOG or Epic Games Store listing.
Practical setup and troubleshooting
- Update first: Install macOS 15.5 or later and keep the game fully updated.
- Check free space: Allow for the full storefront-specific download and temporary installation overhead.
- Start automatically: Use For This Mac, then adjust output resolution, upscaling, and ray tracing based on sustained performance.
- Pair your controller: Native controller support is available, but wireless features and rumble can vary by controller and connection method.
- Be cautious with external displays: Moving from a built-in 1080p-class display to a 4K monitor can substantially increase the rendering workload.
- Protect saves while troubleshooting: Confirm the intended Apple and CD PROJEKT RED accounts, avoid deleting local saves, and back them up where possible.
- Investigate sync problems methodically: If iCloud-related launching or save issues occur, test with iCloud synchronization disabled only after protecting your saves, then contact CDPR support if cross-progression still does not appear.
User reports have mentioned launch, input-lag, iCloud, save, and external-drive problems. They are useful clues, but they are not a substitute for official compatibility documentation. Patch timing and supported features can also change, so check current release notes and requirements rather than assuming the July 2025 launch configuration remains unchanged.
Who should play on Mac?
- You already own an M-series Mac with 16GB: The game is worth considering if a 30fps-oriented experience is acceptable and you have enough storage.
- You own an M3 Pro, M4 Pro, Max, or Ultra Mac: You are a much stronger candidate for a comfortable 60fps-oriented setup, especially with active cooling and sufficient memory.
- You own an Intel Mac: Do not buy the Mac version expecting support; Intel Macs are outside the official requirements.
- You are buying a computer mainly for gaming: Choose a Windows gaming PC with a discrete GPU unless macOS has substantial value for your other work.
- You already own the game on Steam, GOG, or Epic: Check your existing library and Mac entitlement before purchasing the Mac App Store edition.
- You want path tracing, 4K, or very high refresh rates: Choose the Windows PC version.
Apple naming Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition its 2025 Mac Game of the Year recognizes the importance of the port, but it is not independent performance evidence. The more useful verdict is narrower: this is a credible native Mac release, not proof that Macs now offer broad gaming-PC parity.
