2026 production through four games
The Steelers’ official season statistics show Freiermuth with more receptions and touchdowns, while Washington is only six yards behind despite five fewer catches.

These are Pittsburgh Steelers season-to-date statistics through four games, not fantasy-point totals. Freiermuth’s greater catch and touchdown totals give him the stronger demonstrated production so far. Washington’s higher yards-per-catch average reflects a different shape of production, but four games are too small a sample to treat that figure as a forecast.
What the depth chart and prior season add
The Steelers’ official depth chart lists Freiermuth first at tight end and Washington second. That is the team’s listed order, not a guarantee of weekly snaps, targets, or fantasy results.

The 2025 receiving totals also favor Freiermuth, who finished with 41 receptions, 486 yards, and four touchdowns. Washington recorded 31 receptions, 364 yards, and one touchdown. That prior season supports Freiermuth as the player with more demonstrated receiving volume, but it cannot establish how either player’s role will develop in 2026.
Which tight end should you choose?
Lean Freiermuth for the safer default
Choose Freiermuth when you want to favor the listed depth-chart order and the stronger record of catches and touchdowns in both the current sample and the prior season. The available evidence supports that lean; it does not establish a guaranteed weekly start or a specific fantasy projection.

Consider Washington when you want upside
Washington is a defensible alternative if you are willing to take a chance on a less-established option whose current yardage is close to Freiermuth’s. His yards-per-catch figure is higher in this four-game sample, but that alone is not evidence that his target volume will rise or that he is breaking out.
