dbmirror.dll missing errors usually appear when Windows starts an old PocketMirror installation. dbmirror.dll is a PocketMirror application file, not a Windows component.
You may see messages such as:
- “This application failed to start because dbmirror.dll was not found.”
- “The file dbmirror.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “A required component is missing: dbmirror.dll.”
- “Error loading dbmirror.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “Failed to load dbmirror.dll.”
- “Cannot register dbmirror.dll.”
The safest fix is to repair or reinstall the complete PocketMirror or Palm Desktop package from your original installer, device media, or a trusted organizational backup. Do not download a replacement DLL and copy it into System32.
What dbmirror.dll is
dbmirror.dll is identified as DBMIRROR DLL, part of PocketMirror from Chapura, Inc. PocketMirror was legacy synchronization software used with Palm devices and desktop applications.
In PocketMirror installations, DbMirror.dll is associated with the Date Book conduit. Other conduit components handled address-book, memo, and to-do synchronization. The file therefore belongs with the PocketMirror installation directory and its related configuration, not with Windows itself.

It is not:
- A Windows system DLL
- A Microsoft runtime
- A DirectX component
- A device driver
- A general-purpose file used by Paint or Windows Media Player
The exact error can be misleading. “The specified module could not be found” may mean that dbmirror.dll is missing, but it can also mean that one of its dependencies cannot load.
Is dbmirror.dll safe
The filename alone does not prove that a file is genuine. A legitimate copy should be located inside the PocketMirror program directory and should belong to a complete, trusted installation.
Check the file before restoring or allowing it:
- Press
Win + Eto open File Explorer. - Search the computer for
dbmirror.dll. - Right-click each result and select Properties.
- Open the Details tab.
- Look for product or description information identifying PocketMirror or Chapura.
- Note the folder containing the file.
- Check Installed apps or Programs and Features for PocketMirror.
A file in a PocketMirror folder is more credible than a file found in a temporary download directory, an email attachment, or an unrelated application folder. If malware is suspected, scan the entire computer rather than trusting the filename.
Why the error appeared
The most common causes are:
| Cause | What usually happened | Correct response |
|---|---|---|
| Partial removal | PocketMirror was uninstalled incompletely | Remove the broken entry and reinstall the full package |
| Damaged installation | Files or configuration became corrupted | Run repair, if available, or reinstall |
| Antivirus quarantine | Security software removed the file | Review Protection history before restoring |
| Failed migration | Only some program files were copied to a new PC | Restore the complete installation and configuration |
| Missing dependency | The DLL exists but another required module does not | Reinstall the complete PocketMirror package |
| Orphaned startup entry | PocketMirror was removed but Windows still launches it | Remove the obsolete application or startup reference |
| Windows corruption | Other protected Windows files are also failing | Run DISM and SFC as a separate diagnostic step |
The timing often identifies the cause. Check whether the problem began after removing Palm Desktop, reinstalling PocketMirror, running disk cleanup, restoring a backup, moving to a newer Windows installation, or allowing antivirus software to quarantine a file.
Fix 1: Repair or reinstall PocketMirror
This is the primary fix because dbmirror.dll belongs to PocketMirror. Replacing one DLL does not restore the program’s other conduits, registry settings, synchronization entries, or configuration files.
Try Windows repair first
- Open Start.
- Select Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for PocketMirror or a related Palm Desktop entry.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the program.
- Choose Advanced options, if shown.
- Select Repair.
If Windows offers no repair option:
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Select PocketMirror or its related installation.
- Choose Repair, Change, or Modify, if available.
- Follow the installer prompts.
- Restart Windows.
Try the application again after restarting. A successful repair should remove the missing-file message and allow the PocketMirror or Palm synchronization component to start.
Reinstall from trusted original media
If repair is unavailable or fails:
- Back up any Palm, Outlook, or PocketMirror data you still need.
- Locate the original PocketMirror or Palm Desktop installer.
- If the installer is on removable media, copy it to a local folder first.
- Right-click the installer and select Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup program’s repair or reinstall instructions.
- Restart Windows when setup finishes.
- Test PocketMirror or the synchronization process.
If the old installation is listed but badly damaged, uninstall it first:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Select PocketMirror or the related Palm software.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original installer again as administrator.
Do not uninstall before preserving data backups. Multiple old PocketMirror versions can leave conflicting conduits, so reinstalling the complete package is safer than copying only dbmirror.dll.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf you do not have the original installer, check original Palm device media, a trusted company archive, or a backup made from the old computer. Chapura’s current official download and support availability for this legacy file is not established, so do not assume that a newly discovered download is authentic.
Fix 2: Check antivirus quarantine
Windows Security or another antivirus product may have removed the file.
- Open Start.
- Type Windows Security.
- Open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review entries mentioning PocketMirror,
dbmirror.dll, or the folder containing the program. - Open an entry to view its details.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are true:

- Comes with e-mail and Mobile Internet Kit software and desktop software for both PC and Mac
- Link to Microsoft Outlook (Windows only)
- Customizable with optional snap-on faceplates
- The file came from your original PocketMirror installation.
- It is located in the expected PocketMirror directory.
- The surrounding installation is legitimate.
- You have considered the antivirus vendor’s detection result.
- You are confident that the detection is a false positive.
If Windows Security offers Restore, use it only for that verified file. You may also need to allow it again, but do so only when you are confident it is safe. A restored file from an unofficial source should not be allowed.
After restoring a legitimate quarantined file, start PocketMirror again. If the file is immediately quarantined again, stop restoring it and reinstall the complete application from trusted media. Repeated detection may indicate corruption or a genuine security problem.
Fix 3: Confirm that the file is in the correct folder
A valid file in the wrong folder can still produce a missing-module error.
- Search File Explorer for
dbmirror.dll. - Right-click the result and choose Open file location.
- Compare the folder with the PocketMirror installation folder.
- Check that other PocketMirror files are present nearby.
- Start PocketMirror from its normal shortcut rather than launching the DLL directly.
Do not move the file manually to:
C:WindowsSystem32
or:
C:WindowsSysWOW64
Those are Windows system directories. SysWOW64 contains 32-bit Windows system components on 64-bit Windows; it is not a general destination for old application DLLs. PocketMirror should normally load its own application files from its program directory.
The architecture must also match the parent application. An old desktop application may be 32-bit even when Windows is 64-bit. Windows can run many 32-bit applications, but copying a file based only on the name does not resolve architecture or dependency problems. Reinstalling the complete package gives the installer a chance to place compatible files correctly.

If dbmirror.dll exists but PocketMirror still fails, a related component may be missing.
This can happen after:
- Copying only the program folder to another computer
- Restoring an incomplete backup
- Removing Palm Desktop and reinstalling only part of it
- Moving from an older Windows installation
- Interrupting an update or setup process
Reinstall PocketMirror together with its associated Palm Desktop or HotSync components when the original installer provides them.
After setup:
- Restart Windows.
- Open the Palm synchronization software.
- Confirm that the device and user profile are still selected.
- Check the conduit settings.
- Run a small synchronization test.
- Confirm that the Date Book and other required conduits appear.
If the program opens but synchronization fails, the missing DLL is no longer the only issue. Preserve your data and repair the complete synchronization configuration rather than repeatedly replacing the file.
Fix 5: Do not use regsvr32 as a routine repair
The following command is often suggested for DLL errors:
regsvr32 dbmirror.dll
Do not treat it as the normal solution.
regsvr32 is intended for OLE, COM, or ActiveX DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that dbmirror.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX server.
Running the command may produce:
The module was loaded but the entry-point DllRegisterServer was not found.
That message does not prove that the file is missing or damaged. PocketMirror’s installer should perform any registration required by the application.

Use regsvr32 only when the PocketMirror documentation or installer specifically instructs you to register a particular component. Do not run it from an arbitrary folder or use it to compensate for an incomplete installation.
Fix 6: Repair Windows components when other problems exist
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They do not normally recreate a missing third-party PocketMirror DLL.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Use them when you also see broader Windows symptoms, such as damaged built-in applications, repeated system-file errors, or problems affecting unrelated programs.
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
- Wait for it to complete.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test PocketMirror again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before SFC. If SFC reports that it repaired files, restart and retest. If both commands complete without resolving the PocketMirror error, return to the PocketMirror repair or reinstall steps.
When manually hunting through Windows components and repeating SFC or DISM does not show what changed, Outbyte PC Repair can scan for reported system problems; its free scan shows findings, while repair is performed by the full version. Reinstalling PocketMirror remains the definitive fix when the missing file belongs to that application.
Fix 7: Check drivers only when the symptom points to a device problem
dbmirror.dll is an application DLL, not a device driver. Device Manager is therefore not the first place to repair this error.
Recommended Free Tools
Use it only if the Palm device is also missing, repeatedly disconnecting, or showing a separate driver warning:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand categories such as Universal Serial Bus controllers or Portable Devices.
- Look for a warning icon.
- Right-click the affected device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if prompted.
Do not remove a working device simply because dbmirror.dll is missing. Reinstall the PocketMirror software first.
If you are updating several old device drivers by hand, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues and identify available updates; the free scan shows what it finds, while driver installation is handled by the full version. It is not a substitute for reinstalling PocketMirror, which remains the correct repair for this application DLL.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Fix 8: Use System Restore after a recent change
If PocketMirror worked immediately before a program installation, Windows update, or driver change, System Restore may reverse the related change.
- Press
Win + R. - Type:
rstrui.exe
- Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point from before the failure.
- Select Scan for affected programs.
- Review the results.
- Select Next, then Finish if the restore point is appropriate.
System Restore does not replace a proper PocketMirror installer and may remove applications or drivers installed after the selected restore point. Back up important data before proceeding.
What if the error remains after reinstalling
If the same message appears after a complete reinstall:
- Search for every copy of
dbmirror.dll. - Check which program or startup entry is requesting it.
- Verify that the file is inside the expected PocketMirror directory.
- Confirm that the shortcut points to the current installation.
- Check Settings → Apps → Installed apps for duplicate PocketMirror entries.
- Review Task Manager → Startup apps for an orphaned Palm or PocketMirror launcher.
- Check Task Scheduler for an old synchronization task.
- Reboot and test again.
If the error appears on every boot but no legitimate PocketMirror installation remains, an orphaned launcher may still be trying to start. Remove the obsolete application through its normal uninstall entry before deleting leftover folders. Do not delete random registry entries without a backup.

If the error changes from “file not found” to “bad image” or “not designed to run on Windows,” the file may be corrupted, truncated, incompatible with the parent application, or missing a dependency. Reinstall the complete package rather than trying different standalone DLL copies.
Should you remove PocketMirror instead
If you no longer synchronize a Palm device or use its Outlook integration, uninstalling the obsolete application may be the correct fix.
Before removing it:
- Export or back up any Palm and Outlook data you still need.
- Confirm that no other user relies on the synchronization profile.
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Uninstall PocketMirror and related Palm software.
- Restart Windows.
- Check Task Manager → Startup apps for leftovers.
Removing the parent application stops Windows from requesting dbmirror.dll. It is safer than keeping a damaged legacy installation alive with an unverified replacement file.
Frequently asked questions
Is dbmirror.dll part of Windows 10 or Windows 11?
No. It is associated with Chapura PocketMirror, a third-party application. Windows does not normally supply it.
Can I download dbmirror.dll by itself?
That is unsafe and usually ineffective. A standalone file may contain malware, be the wrong build or architecture, lack required dependencies, or fail to match the rest of the PocketMirror installation. Use the original PocketMirror installer or trusted backup media.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Should I copy it to System32?
No. Keep the file in the PocketMirror program directory. System32 and SysWOW64 are not general storage locations for application DLLs.
Does regsvr32 fix this error?
Usually not. There is no verified evidence that dbmirror.dll is a self-registering COM or ActiveX DLL. Repair or reinstall PocketMirror instead.
Will DISM or SFC restore dbmirror.dll?
Normally no. Those commands repair protected Windows components, while dbmirror.dll belongs to PocketMirror.
Does the error always mean the file is missing?
No. The message can also indicate a missing dependency, an incomplete migration, a damaged file, or a file in the wrong directory.
Recommended Free Tools
What if Windows Defender quarantined it?
Review Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history. Restore only a verified copy from a legitimate PocketMirror installation. Do not restore or whitelist a file obtained from an unofficial source.
Is a 64-bit replacement required on 64-bit Windows?
Do not choose a replacement based only on Windows being 64-bit. The parent application’s architecture and complete installer determine which files are appropriate. Reinstall PocketMirror instead of mixing DLLs manually.
What is the final safe choice if I have no installer?
Preserve your Palm or Outlook data, locate original device media or a trusted backup, or remove the obsolete PocketMirror installation if synchronization is no longer needed. A random DLL cannot recreate the complete application integration.
