Rat King appears to have been the first hero released in Deadlock’s City Never Sleeps update, arriving on October 2, 2026. Valve officially announced that date as the first hero-release slot, while launch-day player posts celebrated Rat King as the hero who arrived first. Because Valve’s published material does not show a finalized release-order log, the strongest wording is “community-confirmed first,” not an independently documented Valve order.
What the City Never Sleeps update announced
Valve’s September 29, 2026 City Never Sleeps update introduced six upcoming heroes:
- Nurse Harrow
- Rat King
- Solomon
- Deadman Danny
- Baba
- Violet
Valve described Rat King with the reveal words “Scrappy, regal, tenacious.” The update announcement said players would determine the release order rather than receive all six heroes at once.
Was Rat King actually the first hero?
The evidence points to yes. Valve announced October 2, 2026 as the first release date, and contemporaneous Deadlock community posts titled “Listen up, Crumbums! Your King is here.” and “OUR KING IS HERE” celebrated Rat King’s arrival that day.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those posts are useful launch-day evidence, but they are not a Valve release log. The official update material available for this announcement does not publish a completed first-to-sixth order. Therefore, Rat King is best described as the first hero released according to launch-day community confirmation, with October 2 established by Valve as the opening release date.
How Deadlock’s hero voting works

When were the new heroes scheduled to release?
Valve announced a cadence of two heroes per week: Tuesdays and Fridays at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time. October 2, 2026 was the first announced release date. The schedule describes the intended cadence; it does not, by itself, prove which hero won each voting round.

What else changed in City Never Sleeps?
The update was broader than its hero rollout. Valve rebuilt the map with four districts between the main streets, replaced neutral camps with Haunts, and added The Broker. This temporary merchant exchanges high-tier items for Corrupted versions that carry random drawbacks.
Those systems are part of the same update, but they do not establish Rat King’s position in the hero queue.

What is not confirmed yet
The available official material does not provide a finalized release-order record for all six heroes. It also does not establish a current Rat King ability kit or balance details. Claims about specific abilities, numbers, or matchup performance should wait for an authoritative hero page or patch record.
Bottom line
Rat King was the first City Never Sleeps hero to arrive on October 2, 2026, based on launch-day player confirmation and Valve’s announcement that October 2 opened the rollout. Valve’s system let players vote on the order, with double votes for the winning team and for a first daily win, on a planned Tuesday-and-Friday schedule.
