It lets compatible DS games connect to community-run replacements for Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection (WFC), but it does not make every DS multiplayer mode work online.
What Delta’s online multiplayer supports
Delta’s feature is for Nintendo DS games and modes that originally used Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Rather than reconnecting to Nintendo’s discontinued servers, Delta directs the game to a community-operated replacement service. Delta’s online multiplayer guide documents examples including Mario Kart DS and Pokémon titles.
Those are examples, not a complete compatibility list. A game may have used WFC yet still encounter game-specific, region, server, or matchmaking limitations. Replacement services also may not reproduce every original event, leaderboard, or downloadable feature. Check the service and game-specific information before expecting a particular mode to work.

Delta is an emulator for Apple devices, and its project documentation identifies melonDS as the Nintendo DS core: Delta on GitHub. The feature is therefore most relevant if you want supported WFC-era modes on an iPhone or iPad, rather than local wireless or every kind of DS connectivity.

Which replacement servers can you choose?
Delta’s release notes list three built-in choices and a custom DNS option:

These are the addresses Delta listed in its release notes; they are not a guarantee of permanent server availability or unchanged DNS. For a first attempt, select a server from Delta’s built-in list rather than manually entering an address. The services are community-run, not Nintendo-operated, so maintenance, rules, and compatibility can vary. See the providers’ sites for current service information: Wiimmfi and WiiLink.

How to connect a DS game
First connection
- Install or update Delta on your Apple device, then open a DS game that used Nintendo WFC and is compatible with a replacement server.
- Use the game’s online feature. When Delta displays its server prompt, tap Choose Server.
- Select one of the listed servers, or enter a custom DNS address if you have a specific service in mind.
- Tap Done. If Delta asks you to restart the game, do so.
- Open the game’s own Nintendo WFC configuration or online menu and connect or register as that game requires.
After initial setup, you can change the selection at Delta Settings → Core Settings (Nintendo DS) → WFC Server. Delta warns that changing servers may mean registering friend codes again.
What to have ready
- A Delta build that exposes the online-multiplayer feature and a compatible Apple device. Delta is listed for iPhone and iPad in the U.S. App Store; check your local store and current app version for regional availability.
- A DS game with a Nintendo WFC mode and a community server that supports the game and mode.
- An internet connection. You may need to use the game’s own WFC setup screen after choosing a server in Delta.
Patreon, public releases, and version status
The feature’s availability changed over time. It appeared in a patron beta in October 2024, and Delta 1.6.5 described DS online multiplayer as an experimental patron feature. Delta then included it in the public Delta 1.7 release on March 31, 2025; the release notes removed the experimental-only framing. Delta’s U.S. App Store listing also describes online play for compatible DS games.

Accordingly, Patreon should not be treated as a requirement for the public Delta 1.7 online-multiplayer feature. The U.S. listing shows Patreon-related in-app purchase labels, but those labels alone do not establish whether a tier is recurring or exactly which benefits it unlocks. If you are using a beta or a different regional build, check that build’s current feature availability rather than assuming it matches the public release.
As of August 16, 2026, Delta’s official release-notes page lists 1.7.3, dated October 23, 2025, as its latest numbered release. The developer’s Patreon sitemap shows Delta 2.0 beta posts in 2026, but that does not establish a final 2.0 stable release. The version status here is limited to those official pages and that date.

Troubleshooting connection problems
Two devices on the same Wi-Fi cannot connect
Delta says devices on the same Wi-Fi network may fail to connect to one another. If available, try cellular data on one device; it is a suggested workaround, not a guarantee.
VPNs, proxies, and server changes
- Temporarily disable VPNs and proxies while testing. Delta warns that they can interfere with connections and may lead to temporary bans on services such as Wiimmfi.
- After switching the WFC server, restart the game. If it still cannot connect, erase the game’s Nintendo WFC configuration and set it up again; games that use friend codes may require re-registration.
- If Delta reports a server-maintenance or server-switch error, wait for the service to become available or verify that the game is using the intended server.

The categories below summarize remedies in Delta’s guide. They are troubleshooting suggestions, not universal diagnoses; replacement-server behavior can change.

When BIOS files are installed
If you changed servers and still cannot connect, Delta’s guide says you may need to erase the in-game WFC configuration. It also lists removing bios7.bin, bios9.bin, and firmware.bin as a troubleshooting option via iOS Settings → Storage → Delta. This is not a universal setup requirement: deleting those files disables the DS home screen and dual-slot functionality for GBA games. Try less disruptive steps first.
Backgrounding the app during a session
Delta’s 1.7 release notes say pausing and some other functions are disabled during multiplayer. The app displays connection and disconnection notifications, and a game may remain connected for up to 30 seconds after Delta enters the background. Do not assume a session will stay connected indefinitely if you switch apps or lock the device.
Is Delta the right option for this kind of play?
- Good fit: You want a portable iPhone or iPad setup for supported DS games’ WFC-era online modes and prefer Delta’s built-in server selection to more involved configuration.
- Not a fit for this feature: Your priority is local wireless between nearby emulators, Download Play, or GBA link-cable play. Those are distinct capabilities and are not established by Delta’s WFC documentation.
- Input consideration: The App Store listing advertises PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, MFi, Bluetooth, and wired controller support, as well as keyboards. A physical controller is optional and does not replace DS-specific touch, stylus, microphone, or dual-screen interactions where a game uses them.
The practical limit is not just whether a game once had online play: the particular game mode, replacement server, and current network conditions all have to line up. Delta’s feature is a route to selected WFC-compatible online modes, not a universal restoration of DS multiplayer.
