How Prophecy’s mote mechanic works
Taken Knight Echoes drop three motes. The type is determined by the illumination of the player who lands the final blow: kill the Knight in direct light for Light motes or deep shadow for Dark motes. Collect five motes of the same type, then dunk them at a column showing that type. The second Knight’s extra mote is not needed once you have enough to charge the column. Bungie describes light and shadow as central to the dungeon’s design; the practical five-mote rule is detailed in a current community guide checked August 1, 2026. Prophecy supports one to three players and is not matchmade, according to the guide. In a fireteam, agree on the target column and have the Knight killer stand in the intended light or shadow before the final blow. Clear Psions and other pressure enemies before setting up Knights. Solo players should favor controlled cycles, cover, and safe recovery over speed.
Walkthrough: route and encounters
1. Phalanx Echo
- Read the Light or Dark type shown on the four columns, then choose a safe first target.
- Clear Psions. Position the Knight killer in the matching light or shadow, kill Knights, collect five matching motes, and cleanse the corresponding column.
- Repeat until all four columns are cleansed. The Phalanx Echo becomes vulnerable.
- Keep clear of its shield blast and preserve a recovery route in case knockback sends you toward the arena edge. If it survives the damage phase, repeat the column cycle.
For a solo run, work on one column per controlled cycle. Use outer cover and the center geometry to isolate Knights, and stand slightly off the boss’s direct shield line during damage. A second damage phase can be normal.

2. First Wasteland
Follow Toland to three groups of Taken Blights. At each stop, clear the Blights and their protected enemies before moving on. After the third group, find the narrow pink-lit opening in the nearby dune wall and follow it to the Hexahedron rally area. The terrain loops, so use Toland and the last cleared Blight as landmarks rather than relying on compass direction.
3. Hexahedron
- Cleanse the plate beneath the wall marked by Toland.
- Stand in the center lift to rotate the room, then follow Toland’s position through six successful orientations.
- After the sixth orientation, defeat both Centurion Echoes to complete the encounter and open the exit.
Call out the wall carrying Toland instead of using a fixed compass direction; the room rotates.
4. Second Wasteland and Singularity traversal
Follow each Kell Echo projection through the second Wasteland and clear Taken blocking the way. At the Deadsea entrance, descend through narrow ribbons and floating pyramid structures. Walking is the safer default on steep or narrow sections. Clear Vandals before crossing exposed ribbons, orient yourself from broad internal platforms, and check the next landing before jumping. The guide places a hidden chest and Raider’s Effigy in the final pyramid before the lift to the boss staging area.
5. Kell Echo
- In each triangle room, identify the types on the three columns and cleanse all three corners. Clear Psions, prepare Knights, collect five matching motes, and cleanse a corner.
- After each cleanse, a Kell projection disappears and an Ogre spawns. Kill the Ogre before continuing to the next corner.
- When all three corners are cleansed and the Ogres are controlled, enter the center portal.
- In the moving damage hallway, stay near Kell Echo to control Dark Entropy. At ten stacks, Dark Entropy kills you. Damage while moving forward and clear Taken Hobgoblins on side platforms.
- Use cover against the boss’s teleport projectile. When Kell Echo moves forward, prioritize reaching its next safe area before resuming damage.
- At the hallway’s end, take the exit portal to another triangle room and repeat until Kell Echo is defeated.
Prophecy weapon loot by encounter
Bungie’s February 22, 2024 update maps six updated weapons to three reward stages. The final reward is called the Kell Echo Emissary chest in Bungie’s article; the community guide calls it the final chest. Follow the live game’s wording if its interface differs.

Bungie’s June 9, 2026 Update 9.7.0 describes this reward framework for Standard dungeons: featured dungeons award farmable Tier 5 weapons and armor; non-featured dungeons award Tier 3 weapons and armor. Some featured Director Challenge and hidden-chest claims have weekly lockouts under the framework. The current guide lists Prophecy as Standard-only with no current Master version. The community guide lists the class-specific CODA armor set as follows. Its armor details are guide-reported, not confirmed by Bungie’s cited 2026 reward update.

The guide says featured weeks can allow any armor slot at any encounter, so older fixed armor-slot tables may not describe current featured farming. For optional objectives, it lists a fireteam flawless reward, solo completion reward, solo flawless reward, two hidden chests, twelve urn collectibles, and Raider’s Effigy. Verify current Triumph wording and rewards in game before planning a run around them.
