A separate CBS Sports/RotoWire item, attributing its report to Kristy Flannery of The Hockey News, listed a 6–8 week absence; that shorter estimate is not the Devils’ official timeline.
What happened to Seamus Casey?
Casey injured his knee during a preseason game against the New York Rangers and underwent surgery, the Devils reported on October 2, 2026. The team said the 22-year-old would be out of the lineup for 8–10 weeks.
Head coach Sheldon Keefe said Casey “got through surgery well” and would begin rehabilitation. Keefe described the estimate as “about an 8-10 week recovery” and said the team would get Casey back on the ice as soon as it could.
Why are there two recovery estimates?

Casey’s recent playing context
The Devils said Casey appeared in two NHL games and 29 American Hockey League games in 2025–26 before his season ended with surgery in February. Keefe characterized the new setback as difficult for a player who had already dealt with injuries and a tough start to the season.
When could Casey return?
The Devils provided a recovery range rather than a specific return date. The 8–10 weeks is an estimate, and Casey’s actual return will depend on his rehabilitation and any subsequent team update. The cited team report does not establish a more precise date.
