When did Diablo 4 Season 4 start?
Blizzard Entertainment announced that Season 4: Loot Reborn began May 14, 2024, at 10 a.m. PT. The season centered on changing how items were earned, evaluated, and improved as characters progressed through World Tiers.

What changed in Season 4?
Item affixes and customization
Blizzard simplified item affixes to make potential upgrades easier to judge. Legendary items had three affixes, while Rare items had two. The announcement also described a move away from more conditional affixes toward clearer benefits such as movement speed, maximum life, or ranks to a Core Skill.
Customization shifted toward two crafting systems: Tempering and Masterworking. These changes affected both Seasonal and Eternal Realms and persisted beyond Season 4, making them core-game changes rather than bonuses tied only to the seasonal character journey.

Helltide and Threat
Season 4 updated Helltide with a Threat system. Threat increased based on the difficulty of monsters and how often a player opened Tortured Gifts. Blizzard described three Threat levels, with each level bringing more danger and more frequent ambushes.
At Threat Level 3, a character became Hell-Marked. Surviving the resulting monster frenzy brought a Hellborne, a formidable fallen warrior. The Profane Mindcage, a temporary elixir, raised Helltide monster levels by 10 and increased Cinder drops. Blizzard said it was guaranteed after killing a Hellborne and lasted only through Season 4.

Iron Wolves and seasonal rewards
Season 4 added Iron Wolves encounters in Helltide. Season Journey rewards included Legendary Aspects and three Scrolls of Amnesia, which Blizzard described as allowing a free reset of the Skill Tree and Paragon Board.
The Battle Pass had 90 reward tiers: 28 free tiers and 62 premium tiers. These seasonal activities and rewards were distinct from the persistent itemization overhaul; Blizzard’s announcement did not say that the full seasonal quest or reward track transferred to Eternal Realm.

What carried over to Eternal Realm?
The itemization updates applied to both Seasonal and Eternal Realms and remained after the season ended. That includes the revised affix approach and the Tempering and Masterworking systems. By contrast, Season 4-specific activities and temporary elements—including the Profane Mindcage and seasonal reward track—should not be confused with those lasting system changes.
