The class arrived with Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred on April 28, 2026; you need the base game as well as the expansion to play it.
What the Warlock does differently
Blizzard describes the Warlock as a conduit of infernal wrath who binds demons and harnesses Hell’s power. Its official class overview centers the fantasy on demonic summons, battlefield control and infernal damage. As Blizzard puts it: “A conduit of infernal wrath, you bind demons to your will and harness the raw power of Hell to obliterate your enemies.”

The distinguishing idea is not simply that the character uses demonic-looking attacks. The Warlock commands demons and wields their power against Hell’s forces, turning the enemy’s own source of strength into the class’s theme. That is a description of its fantasy, not a claim about how powerful it is compared with other classes.
What the hands-on preview revealed about combat
GameSpot’s March 5, 2026 hands-on preview reported four Soul Shard archetypes, each shaping the Warlock’s gameplay loop. It also described the class as using Willpower, with two resources: Wrath for destructive abilities and Dominance for summoning. Those details reflect the preview build and its reporting; they should not be treated as a complete guide to the class’s live skill interactions or patch-sensitive balance.

That preview points to a class organized around a choice between direct infernal offense and bringing demons into the fight. The appeal is the relationship between those parts: summoning is not separate from the Hell-themed damage fantasy, but one way the Warlock directs that power. The available preview details do not establish the precise rotation, optimal build, or how each Soul Shard performs in the current game.
What this preview can—and cannot—tell you
The hands-on reports provide a view of class combat and identity, not a verdict on the entire expansion. Gamereactor said its session did not allow the writer to travel around Skovos, so it could not offer a meaningful hands-on assessment of that region or the full expansion. Its Warlock impressions therefore should not be read as a review of the campaign, exploration or endgame.

Windows Central reported playing the Warlock at Blizzard and speaking with developers Bjorn Mikkleson and Stephen Trill. Its coverage discussed design concerns such as how Uniques might reshape skills and the importance of visual clarity. Those are preview-reporting and developer-discussion points; they do not establish how every build or encounter works in the live game.
