What is Vessel of Hatred?
Blizzard describes Vessel of Hatred as a continuation of the Diablo IV journey. After imprisoning Mephisto, Neyrelle searches for a way to destroy him; the story takes players into Nahantu, an ancient jungle region that includes areas associated with Kurast and Teganze. Blizzard also lists new towns, dungeons, Strongholds, enemies, and explorable areas among the expansion’s content. Blizzard’s official Vessel of Hatred page
What does the expansion add?
Spiritborn
Spiritborn is a new class tied to Nahantu. Blizzard describes it as a mobile fighter who uses glaives, quarterstaves, and polearms and draws power from four Spirit Guardians.
Mercenaries
Mercenaries are recruitable allies who fight alongside your character. They progress with you and bring their own combat abilities.

Dark Citadel
The Dark Citadel is a cooperative PvE endgame activity: a multi-part dungeon designed for a group.
Runewords, Party Finder, and broader changes
The expansion’s listed features also include Runewords and Party Finder. Blizzard’s page associates the release with broader changes to leveling, difficulty, Paragon, and itemization. It does not provide a complete feature-by-feature breakdown of which systems require the expansion and which arrive as base-game updates, so check the current game and entitlement details rather than assuming every listed change is expansion-exclusive.

Do you need Diablo IV to play it?
Yes. Blizzard lists the Diablo IV base game as required, along with an internet connection and a Battle.net account. The expansion is not a standalone game.
Does Lord of Hatred include Vessel of Hatred?
Blizzard’s current official page says that any edition of Lord of Hatred instantly unlocks Vessel of Hatred. It also says the Age of Hatred Collection includes Diablo IV and both expansions. These are current offer terms, not a guarantee that every regional storefront or future listing will show the same bundle.

Before buying, check the live listing for your region and platform, and confirm what your account already owns. Blizzard says the expansion must be purchased once for each platform on which you want to play it; ownership on one platform does not establish access on another.

- You do not own Diablo IV: The base game is required, so look for a compatible base-game option or a collection that explicitly includes it.
- You already own Diablo IV: Check your account’s entitlements and the live offer before buying an expansion or bundle.
- You are considering Lord of Hatred: Blizzard currently says any edition unlocks Vessel of Hatred; verify that the specific listing and platform match your needs.
- You play on multiple platforms: Check each platform separately because Blizzard says a separate expansion purchase is required for each one.
