Use Chrono and Budge only when they meaningfully improve the turn, build around the commander and the pieces actually offered, and stay ready to pivot. Chapter 6 tactics are especially patch-sensitive: the developer rebalanced it on 2 October 2026.
Start each turn by deciding what you need
Dicevaders is a dice-based roguelike deckbuilder: you recruit units and artifacts, place invaders on a turn-based grid, and pursue pairs, triples, and quadruples for combinations. The official Steam description presents dice manipulation and board placement as parts of the same strategy, so judge a roll by how it helps the current turn—not by whether every die looks ideal.
Choose the turn’s priority
- Need a useful unit? Consider whether the current result lets you act on the shop or whether refreshing it could produce a more relevant option.
- Need a scoring combination? Check whether the dice can form a useful pair, triple, or quadruple, and whether your board placement can take advantage of it.
- Need to strengthen the run? Compare the immediate value of a unit or artifact with how well it supports your current plan. A theoretical synergy is not automatically worth spending resources to chase.
These are decision prompts, not fixed rules: the sources do not establish an optimal resource budget for any chapter or commander.
Spend Chrono and Budge for a reason
The official game description gives Chrono two uses: rerolling dice and restocking the shop. Budge lets you nudge dice. Those are different ways to improve a turn, so weigh the likely value of a shop refresh against changing the result already in front of you. The developer’s launch announcement put the idea plainly: “Don’t sweat a bad roll, though, we’ve got you covered: use Chrono to reroll or spend Budges to nudge your dice exactly where you need them.” — Dicevaders Team, 11 September 2026 (official launch announcement).

When considering a Chrono reroll
Ask whether changing the dice is likely to unlock something valuable this turn. If the current result is close to a useful combination, a reroll may be less attractive than keeping it; if the shop is the real problem, a restock may better serve the run. The value depends on the current board and available options, not just on how imperfect the roll feels.
When considering a Budge
Use a nudge when moving a die can complete a combination whose scoring benefit is worth the resource. A Budge is not automatically well spent just because it changes a result in the desired direction: consider what the completed combination enables, and whether saving the nudge could help more on a later turn.

Draft for a plan that can adapt
Build coherence matters, but so does using what the run offers. A player comment on the official Steam community page recommends broad builds and pivoting rather than stacking one synergy regardless of the available pieces. That is experienced-player advice, not a proven rule for every run (Steam community discussion).
Evaluate each offer on its actual value
- Does the unit or artifact help your current scoring objective or board situation?
- Does it work with the commander and pieces you already have?
- Does it add useful flexibility, or only support a narrow plan you may not be able to complete?
If the shop is not supporting your original idea, reconsider the plan instead of spending resources indefinitely trying to rescue it. Pivoting does not mean taking unrelated pieces at random: keep a coherent direction, but let available synergies and immediate needs shape it.

Place pieces with scoring in mind
The Steam description says grid placement can enhance scoring potential and that each placement matters. Before placing, look at the dice combinations you can form, where they can score, and which units or artifacts benefit. A strong draft can still underdeliver if the arrangement does not support the scoring opportunities you are pursuing.
There is no verified universal best formation in the available official material. Treat each placement as a choice tied to your current board and synergies rather than copying a fixed layout.

Let your commander and the opposing Pilot shape the run
Dicevaders’ official description says commanders have distinct strategic approaches and specialized synergies. It also warns that Pilots have unique abilities intended to disrupt the invasion. Start with the tools your commander brings, then adjust your priorities to the threat in front of you instead of forcing one build across every run.
The available sources do not establish a reliable commander tier list or a detailed counter guide for each Pilot. A Steam community complaint about Chapter 2 describes one run in which no perk appeared after the first boss; that is one player’s experience, not evidence of expected difficulty or a measured balance problem.

For Chapter 6, check which patch you are playing
Dicevaders released on 29 September 2026. In Patch #1 notes dated 2 October 2026, the developer said Chapter 6 had been rebalanced after feedback that it was not fun for many players. The same notes described a replayable hardest difficulty as a possibility for a future major update, not a feature confirmed as released (Patch #1 notes).
That change makes old boss values and tactics potentially misleading. Check the current patch notes before relying on a Chapter 6 guide that gives exact stats or presents a fixed tactic as current. The official sources reviewed here do not establish a verified boss-stat table or a guaranteed Chapter 6 build.
Use the game’s breadth without treating counts as a strategy
In its 2026 launch announcement, publisher Playstack and developer Pengonauts listed 10 commanders, 60+ units, 120 artifacts, 30+ constellations, six difficulties, and 13 additional challenge modes (launch announcement). Those are launch-announcement figures, not a promise that a particular combination will appear in a run; the practical lesson is to assess the options actually available rather than plan around a specific drop.
