But Bethesda’s patch notes do not confirm that Update 6 broke campaign aim: the official Precision Bolt change was a BATTLEMODE damage adjustment, while a separate campaign collision fix arrived in Update 6.1. A contemporaneous outlet said that update fixed the Precision Bolt hitbox, but id Software had not publicly commented on that specific fix at the time.
What players reported after Update 6
In July 2021, players described the Precision Bolt as feeling less accurate or appearing to pass through enemies after Update 6. A July 6 Steam discussion, titled “PB hitbox after update 6,” captures those reports. They are player observations, not controlled tests or proof that every player encountered the same behavior. The discussion also relays a statement attributed to game director Hugo Martin, but does not link to the original Facebook post, so it cannot establish a verified direct developer confirmation. What Update 6 actually changed
Bethesda released Update 6 on June 29, 2021. Its Precision Bolt note concerns BATTLEMODE: the Slayer’s Precision Bolt and Ballista received distance-based damage adjustments against Demon Players. That is a multiplayer damage-balance change, not an announcement that campaign aim or hit registration was changed. The same notes mention an adjustment to campaign Tentacle hit detection, which is a separate mechanic and does not establish a Precision Bolt change. Bethesda’s Update 6 release notes.
A July 8 BATTLEMODE balance update also details platform-specific damage-falloff changes for Precision Bolt and Ballista against Demon Players. These notes concern multiplayer damage over distance, not campaign weapon hit registration. Bethesda’s July 8 BATTLEMODE update notes.

What Update 6.1 fixed—and what remains unconfirmed
Bethesda’s July 14, 2021 Update 6.1 notes list a campaign fix for bullets colliding with gore and ammo pickups during combat. They do not explicitly identify the Precision Bolt or describe the change as a hitbox fix. Bethesda’s Update 6.1 release notes.
On the same date, MP1st reported that the update fixed the Precision Bolt hitbox. The article also said id Software had not commented on that title update at the time. That makes the hitbox claim secondary reporting, not an explicit official confirmation in the patch notes. MP1st’s July 14 patch report.

Did a later update confirm the issue was resolved?
Bethesda’s August 3, 2021 Update 6.2 notes list other campaign fixes but do not mention Precision Bolt aim or hit registration. That omission does not prove the weapon’s behavior never changed, but it also does not establish a definitive fix for every player’s reported issue. Bethesda’s Update 6.2 release notes.

How to interpret the conflicting accounts
- Mode: The official Update 6 Precision Bolt note is about BATTLEMODE; player reports discussed perceived aim problems, often in campaign.
- Mechanic: Damage falloff changes how much damage a hit deals at a given distance. Hit registration determines whether a shot connects. The official BATTLEMODE notes document the former, not a campaign aim change.
- Evidence: Bethesda’s notes are official descriptions of listed changes; the Steam thread documents player reports; the Precision Bolt hitbox-fix claim comes from a secondary outlet.
- Build: The reports followed Update 6. Update 6.1 included a general bullet-collision fix, and Update 6.2’s notes did not name Precision Bolt.
