Some Star Wars Outlaws players on PS5 were advised to start a new save after a 2024 maintenance update—but the warning was not reported as affecting every player, and the available reports do not establish that all affected saves were lost. Ubisoft later documented fixes for several mission and progression problems, but its patch notes do not confirm recovery of every save tied to the warning.
What happened after the PS5 maintenance update?
On August 28, 2024, Oscar Gonzalez reported for Gizmodo that some PS5 players received an email concerning maintenance patch 1.000.002. The message said players on an older version should start a new save to avoid problems. It warned: “If you continue on a prior save you will unfortunately face issues and progression blockers.”

That is a warning sent to affected players, not evidence that every PS5 player—or players on every platform—had to restart. The report did not identify one confirmed underlying bug, count the players affected, or verify how much progress anyone lost. It also noted that players had reported differing issues, leaving unclear which specific problems the maintenance addressed.
Did players have to start a new game?
For recipients of the message whose saves were based on the older version it described, the advice was to start a new save. The report does not establish that every player received the warning or that every older save was unusable. It also does not answer whether an individual save can be recovered now.

In other words, the headline describes a serious launch-period warning, not a universal restart requirement or a confirmed loss of every affected save. The available reporting does not provide a verified total of affected players or hours of lost progress.
What did Ubisoft’s later updates fix?
Ubisoft’s dated update notes document subsequent work on mission flow and progression. Those fixes provide context for the game’s post-launch support, but they do not state that every save connected to the August warning was recovered.

| Date | Update and stated scope | What the notes establish |
|---|---|---|
| September 10, 2024 | Title Update 1.1.2, deployed across platforms | Ubisoft highlighted stability improvements and quest-flow fixes, including a fix for the Hyperspace mission so players could take off. The notes also said cross-progression and saves through Ubisoft Connect became available; they did not say this restored the saves implicated in the earlier warning. |
| October 3, 2024 | Title Update 1.2, with a PS5 build identified | The notes listed a fix for getting stuck in a hyperjump toward Kijimi and a fix for a missing “Takeoff” prompt after “The Wreck.” They identify those specific issues; they do not link them to the older-save warning. |
| June 24, 2025 | Title Update 1.7 | The notes include additional fixes and save/checkpoint-related changes, including a weapon-ammo fix after a save. This dated update is not a live status report on every player’s save. |
What should you do if your save is blocked now?
The 2024 email and subsequent patch notes do not establish a current recovery procedure for a particular blocked save. Avoid assuming that a later quest fix or cross-progression feature will restore it. If you contact Ubisoft Support, provide the platform, the game version shown on your system, the affected save, and the exact mission or action where progress stops. Preserve the save and note any error or missing prompt before trying changes that could overwrite it.
Because Ubisoft’s cited notes are dated update records rather than a live incident-status page, they cannot confirm the current state of a specific player’s save. For up-to-date, case-specific guidance, consult Ubisoft Support.
