The reviewed disclosures do not show a recent Vivendi purchase of Ubisoft stock. Vivendi announced the sale of its entire reported Ubisoft stake in 2018; a share-related notice from March 2026 concerns Guillemot Brothers Limited settling contracts connected to that earlier exit—not Vivendi buying shares. Vivendi’s recent financial summaries do not specify whether it currently holds any Ubisoft stock.
What happened to Vivendi’s Ubisoft shares?
On March 20, 2018, Ubisoft announced that Vivendi would sell all 30,489,300 Ubisoft shares it then held, equal to 27.3% of Ubisoft’s share capital. Vivendi’s own announcement described the same stake as 27.27% and put the sale value at €2 billion. The slight difference in percentages reflects the precision used by each company. Ubisoft’s announcement and Vivendi’s release described a sale through a Ubisoft buyback, a purchase by Guillemot Brothers SE, and a placement to institutional investors.
Ubisoft said Vivendi would hold no shares after the transaction was completed and had committed not to acquire Ubisoft shares for five years. That restriction was part of the 2018 agreement. Its expiration does not establish that Vivendi later resumed buying.
What was the Ubisoft share event in 2026?
A March 27, 2026 notice from Guillemot Brothers Limited said it had physically settled, at maturity on March 23, two prepaid future contracts covering 606,061 and 2,424,242 Ubisoft shares—a total of 3,030,303. The notice said both contracts originated in 2018 as part of the Vivendi exit transaction. The notice identified Guillemot Brothers Limited, not Vivendi, as the party settling the contracts.
#1 Best Overall
Guillemot Brothers Limited said the settlement did not change its effective economic exposure to Ubisoft shares, given the contracts’ characteristics. It also said it intended, subject to factors such as market conditions and trading windows, to increase its economic interest by buying Ubisoft shares in the near future. The notice said it did not intend for the Guillemot family concert and Tencent Mobility Limited to exceed 30% of Ubisoft’s capital or voting rights. These were statements about Guillemot Brothers Limited and the parties named in its notice, not about Vivendi.

Does Vivendi still own Ubisoft shares?
The exact current holding is not established by the recent Vivendi summaries reviewed here. Vivendi’s September 3, 2026 first-half results valued its investment portfolio at €5.117 billion as of June 30, 2026, but did not state a Ubisoft-specific position. Its March 12, 2026 full-year results reported listed holdings valued at €5.532 billion as of December 31, 2025, also without specifying a Ubisoft stake. The first-half results and the full-year results therefore do not confirm either that Vivendi owns Ubisoft shares today or that its holding is zero.

How to check an ownership claim
When assessing a claim about a recent Ubisoft share purchase, check which legal entity is named and what transaction the disclosure actually describes. A contract settlement can involve shares without being a new purchase by the company associated with an older transaction. For official market identification, Ubisoft lists its shares on Euronext Paris under ticker UBI, in euros, with ISIN FR0000054470. Ubisoft’s investor page provides those identifiers; they help locate relevant disclosures but do not establish who currently owns the shares.
