What changed on Rebirth Island in 2022?
Warzone’s Season Five notes described Rebirth Island’s new lighting as “a warm and lush sunset casting a vibrant hue over the map.” The change is documented in the Season Five patch notes. They also scheduled a separate Rebirth After Dark limited-time mode for September 2–4, 2022. The sunset lighting and the after-dark mode were distinct experiences.
Did the sunset make enemies harder to see?
The sources establish that the lighting changed, but do not provide a visibility test, measured reduction, or statistic showing that enemies became harder to spot. A contemporaneous Reddit discussion includes players’ concerns about the sun’s position and the advantage of having it at one’s back. Those comments document individual perceptions, not a controlled comparison or a representative player survey.
What did Activision say about visibility and weather?
In its March 27, 2024 Call of Duty: Warzone Overview, Part 2, Activision described variable time-of-day weather on Rebirth Island: skies could become overcast, the sun could set, or light sea fog could roll in. Conditions could persist for a whole match or change partway through. Activision said visibility of squads and enemies was the overriding priority and characterized the weather mainly as ambience.

How does the later Verdansk lighting work relate?
Activision’s 2025 Verdansk return overview says exterior lighting, draw distance, visibility, and haze were adjusted on that map to improve clarity and minimize glare. That is evidence that lighting and visibility are design considerations, but it concerns a later Verdansk update—not the 2022 Rebirth Island sunset—and does not establish that the earlier change caused a measured visibility problem.
