There are 16 personalities in Digimon Story: Time Stranger, grouped into four crests. Each personality affects stat growth and is associated with two personality skills; personalities can also matter for skill acquisition and Digivolution conditions. There is no universally best choice: match the crest and individual modifiers to a Digimon’s job, then check any evolution requirement you are pursuing.
How personality stat boosts work
A personality has two layers of stat growth: its crest contributes a shared stat, and the individual personality adds its own modifiers. For example, Valor contributes ATK, while Daring adds DEF; the PCGamesN chart reports Daring’s paired boosts as ATK +2 and DEF +3. These are not competing descriptions: one lists the crest-level stat and the other gives the paired growth modifiers.

Personality can also influence skill acquisition and Digivolution conditions. A stat that helps a Digimon’s battle role is not necessarily the stat required for its next evolution, so check that Digimon’s specific condition before optimizing around combat alone. Agent Skills may also affect Digimon growth or make Digivolution requirements easier.

Bandai Namco and PlayStation describe personality changes through communication and special-item training in the DigiFarm. PlayStation notes that a Digimon’s personality initially comes from conversion. PCGamesN gives additional prompt-level guidance: respond to party Digimon conversations using one of four crest-aligned dialogue icons, or interact after DigiFarm training. According to that guide, a personality change may also let you choose whether to change the personality skill.

Use the in-game communication prompts and DigiFarm training options as they appear; the available official descriptions establish these methods generally, but do not specify a single universal menu path for every situation.
What the published counts do—and do not—show
PlayStation.Blog described the game’s system as having 16 personality types in its June 25, 2025 overview. The JSUK fan guide’s August 23, 2026 dataset counts starting personalities for 476 Digimon. In that guide’s separate analysis of 417 Digimon with a stat-based evolution condition, it reports that 150 (36%) have a starting personality stat matching that condition. Those are the guide’s counts, not publisher-issued aggregate statistics.
