Start with this quick diagnostic checklist
Before replacing anything, note:
- Which program or device asks for
digpriup.dll? The filename alone cannot identify the exact executable. - When does the error appear? Check whether it occurs during startup, when launching an old application, while configuring Digi hardware, or during uninstall.
- Is the Digi hardware still in use? The file is associated with Digi DataFire PRI and PRIme hardware and the legacy WAN Links for Windows NT software.
- Is the requesting program 32-bit or 64-bit? Public file listings describe
digpriup.dllas Win32, but an official Digi binary was not available for independent architecture verification. - Do you have the original installer, installation disc, backup, or system image?
- Has Windows Security recently quarantined a file?
digpriup.dll is not a normal Windows component. It is identified as the Digi DataFire PRIme Upgrade DLL, associated with Digi International’s WAN Links for Windows NT software. That software was designed for historical Windows NT releases, including Windows NT 3.51 and NT 4.0, so a missing-file message on Windows 10 or Windows 11 usually points to an old application, an incomplete removal, or a compatibility problem rather than a damaged Windows installation.
Fix 1: Identify and restore the original Digi software
The safest and most likely fix is to reinstall the complete WAN Links package that originally installed digpriup.dll. Do not begin by downloading the DLL separately.
If the old Digi program is still listed in Windows
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps.
- Search for WAN Links, Digi, or software related to DataFire PRI or PRIme.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the matching application.
- Choose Advanced options, if available.
- Select Repair.
If Repair is not available:
- Return to Installed apps.
- Select the Digi application.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original Digi installer as an administrator.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation, then restart again.
The repair worked if the original application starts without the missing-file message and the Digi device remains available to the program. If the installer itself cannot run on Windows 10 or 11, do not force the DLL into a system folder. Use the original environment, such as a supported legacy computer or an appropriately isolated virtual machine, if the software is still required.
Digi currently treats comparable Windows NT driver resources as legacy and unsupported. No current official standalone Digi download specifically containing digpriup.dll was verified, so be cautious with claims that this file is supported on modern Windows.

If the original program is no longer installed
A startup entry or leftover application reference may still be trying to load the file.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Startup apps.
- Look for Digi, DataFire, WAN Links, or an unidentified entry associated with the error.
- Select the entry and choose Disable.
- Restart Windows.
Disabling a startup item only stops it from loading. It does not remove the underlying software. If the entry clearly belongs to an obsolete Digi installation, remove that parent application from Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
If the message appears only when opening a particular legacy program, reinstall that entire program from its original media rather than copying in digpriup.dll.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security quarantine
Security software can remove or quarantine an old DLL, especially when the file is uncommon or lacks current trust information.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for
digpriup.dllor the Digi application. - Expand the detection and inspect its original file path.
- Restore the file only if it came from trusted Digi installation media or a verified backup.
Microsoft’s guidance for Protection History warns that allowing a detected file can expose the device if the file is malicious. Do not restore it merely because its filename matches.
After restoring a file, scan the original installer and the restored file. Check its location, digital signature if present, and metadata. A file reported as version 3.4.52.0 should not automatically be considered genuine because that version is reported by third-party file listings, not confirmed against an accessible official Digi binary.
If the file is repeatedly recreated in a temporary folder, is detected again, or appears alongside suspicious processes, stop treating this as an ordinary missing-DLL problem and investigate the system for malware.
Fix 3: Reinstall the complete application, not the DLL
A missing DLL can result from an incomplete uninstall, disk cleanup, file corruption, or an interrupted upgrade.
If the original application is still present:
- Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the Digi or WAN Links entry.
- Select its three-dot menu.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall the complete package from original installation media or a verified Digi archive.
- Restart once more before testing the application.
If Windows reports that the program cannot be removed, use Microsoft’s program installation and removal troubleshooting guidance.
The complete reinstall is successful when the application launches and the error no longer appears. If the program still reports that a module cannot be found, the problem may be a dependency rather than digpriup.dll itself. “The specified module could not be found” can mean that Windows found the named DLL but could not load another library it requires.
Do not substitute a similarly named Digi DLL. Do not copy the file into both C:WindowsSystem32 and C:WindowsSysWOW64. Those directories have different architecture roles, and indiscriminate copying does not recreate the application’s installation, registry entries, services, or dependencies.

Fix 4: Check the requesting program and architecture
Because digpriup.dll is a legacy application file, the calling executable matters more than the filename.

- Note the full error text and the program name in its title bar.
- Open Task Manager and select Details while the program is running, if it opens.
- Right-click the program’s executable and choose Open file location.
- Right-click the executable, choose Properties, and inspect the Details and Compatibility tabs.
- Check the program’s installation folder for the original Digi DLL or an application-specific subfolder.
- Compare the program’s architecture with the DLL supplied by its original installer.
A 32-bit legacy program generally needs the matching 32-bit build of its dependencies. Do not assume that a file described online as Win32 has a verified modern equivalent, and do not place a 32-bit DLL into a 64-bit application’s directory as an experiment.
If the program was designed for Windows NT 3.51 or NT 4.0, compatibility settings may not be enough. Right-click the application executable, select Properties → Compatibility, and test an appropriate older Windows compatibility mode only if the software is trusted and still needed. Compatibility mode cannot supply missing drivers or make obsolete Digi hardware work on unsupported Windows versions.
Fix 5: Update or reinstall the related device driver
This applies only if the Digi DataFire or related hardware is still connected.
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Network adapters, Modems, Ports (COM & LPT), and Other devices.
- Look for a Digi device, an entry with a yellow warning icon, or an unknown device appearing when the hardware is connected.
- Right-click the device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and record the provider and driver details.
- Select Uninstall Device only if you have the correct replacement installer ready.
- Restart Windows.
- Install the complete driver package from trusted original media or a verified vendor archive.
- Restart and check Device Manager again.
A working installation should show the device without a warning icon and should allow the related Digi software to detect it. If Windows reports that no compatible driver exists, that is consistent with the software’s legacy status. Do not install a random driver because its filename resembles the missing DLL.
Manually hunting through old driver packages can mean comparing versions, architecture, and hardware identifiers without knowing which component is actually stale. Outbyte Driver Updater can scan and show driver problems, while the repair or driver installation is completed by the full version; it is optional, and reinstalling the original Digi package remains the definitive fix for this application-specific DLL.
Fix 6: Run Windows component repair only when other system files fail
digpriup.dll is not a Windows system file, so System File Checker normally will not restore it. Use Microsoft’s repair commands when other Windows components are also malfunctioning, or when the failure began alongside wider system corruption.
First install pending Windows updates and restart. Then:
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test the Digi application again.
Microsoft documents this DISM and SFC procedure. Success means the commands report that corruption was repaired or no integrity violations were found. If the Digi error remains, return to the original application reinstall because SFC and DISM do not normally restore third-party Digi files.
Running these commands repeatedly without knowing what changed can waste time while leaving the legacy application broken. Fix 7: Use System Restore after a recent change
If the error began immediately after removing software, installing a driver, or applying a system change, System Restore may reverse the change without manually replacing files.
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
rstrui.exe. - Press Enter.
- Select Next.
- Choose a restore point created before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Select Next → Finish.
Microsoft’s Windows recovery options explain what System Restore can reverse. If no suitable restore point exists, use the original Digi installer, a system image, or a legacy environment instead.

Do not run:
regsvr32 digpriup.dll
as a general repair step. Microsoft describes regsvr32 as a utility for DLLs that expose registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A normal application DLL may not provide that entry point, causing an error that the module was loaded but the entry point was not found.

regsvr32 does not install a missing application, restore its dependencies, or repair an old Digi driver. Use it only when the software’s official documentation specifically instructs you to register that particular DLL.
Do not download digpriup.dll from a DLL archive
Standalone DLL downloads are risky because the file may contain malware, belong to a different release, use the wrong architecture, or be modified. Even a clean copy often fails because the application’s other files, registry entries, services, or dependencies are still missing.
Use, in this order:
- The original WAN Links installation media.
- A verified backup or system image from the same computer.
- An authentic Digi archive or support channel.
- A supported legacy computer or isolated virtual machine when the original software cannot run on Windows 10 or 11.
There is no verified current official standalone Digi download for this DLL. Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, DirectX, and .NET are not direct fixes for this particular file.
