The headline “Discord Ads are Coming” refers to Discord’s April 1, 2024 rollout, not a new 2026 launch. Discord’s Quests are now an established rewarded-ad format: a game publisher pays for a promotion, and users may receive an item, code, cosmetic or other benefit for playing, streaming, watching a video or completing another campaign task. You can decline a Quest, disable personalization and hide individual placements, but Discord does not promise a switch that removes every Quest promotion.
What Discord Sponsored Quests are
Discord describes Quests as a “rewarded ad format,” rather than ordinary banner advertising. A campaign can ask you to play a game, stream it to at least one friend in a Discord voice channel, watch a promotional video or complete another specified activity. The reward and eligibility rules depend on the campaign.
Seeing a Quest card is not the same as accepting it. Engagement is optional: you can ignore or decline the offer. Accepting and completing the task is what activates the reward exchange. Discord’s current explanation is in its Quest FAQ.
Why the 2024 headline is easy to misread
Discord announced an expansion of Sponsored Quests to more game developers in February 2024. Reports said a broader rollout was expected within about a week, and the widely circulated article was published on April 1, 2024. Discord’s original description focused on game-related promotions around gaming and streaming features, as documented in its developer announcement.
The program did not remain limited to that first stream-oriented presentation. Discord announced mobile Video Quests on March 20, 2025, and Arena Quests on October 2, 2025. Those formats and campaigns may depend on platform, region, age, account eligibility and the particular advertiser; not every user will see every format.
Three different meanings of “opt out”
Most confusion comes from treating three separate controls as one:
#1 Best Overall
- TRIFORCE TITANIUM 50 MM DRIVERS — Our cutting-edge proprietary design divides the driver into 3 parts for the individual tuning of highs, mids, and lows—producing brighter, clearer audio with richer highs and more powerful lows
- HYPERCLEAR CARDIOID MIC — An improved pickup pattern ensures more voice and less noise as it tapers off towards the mic’s back and sides, with the sweet spot easily placed at the mouth because of the mic’s bendable design
- ADVANCED PASSIVE NOISE CANCELLATION — Sturdy closed earcups fully cover the ears to prevent noise from leaking into the headset, with its cushions providing a closer seal for more sound isolation
- LIGHTWEIGHT DESIGN WITH MEMORY FOAM EAR CUSHIONS — At just 240 g, the headset features thicker headband padding and memory foam ear cushions with leatherette to keep gaming in peak form during grueling tournaments and training sessions
- WORKS WITH WINDOWS SONIC — Make the most of the headset’s powerful drivers by pairing it with lifelike surround sound that places audio with pinpoint accuracy, heightening in-game awareness and immersion
- Opt out of participation: Do not accept or complete a Quest. This avoids the reward activity but does not necessarily stop a promotional card from appearing.
- Opt out of personalization: Turn off the data sources Discord uses to tailor sponsored content. Promotions can still be shown without that personalization.
- Hide a placement: Use Hide This on a particular promotion. Another placement for the same Quest may remain visible.
Turn off personalized Sponsored Quest targeting
Discord’s current controls are under User Settings → Data & Privacy → How Discord uses your data. Labels can vary slightly by platform, language or app rollout.
Desktop app or browser
- Open Discord and select the User Settings gear.
- Open Data & Privacy.
- Select or scroll to How Discord uses your data.
- Turn off Use data based on my Discord activity to personalize sponsored content.

Discord documents this path for both the desktop application and browser client in its sponsored-content data explanation.
Mobile

- Choose Data & Privacy.
- Open How Discord uses your data.
- Adjust the two sponsored-content personalization controls.
The broad path is the same on Android and iOS, although the exact Settings layout can differ between app builds.

What each switch changes
- Turning off Discord-activity personalization also disables the use of third-party data for sponsored-content personalization.
- Turning off only third-party-data personalization does not disable personalization based on your Discord activity.
- Discord says sponsored content, including Quests, may still appear after either control is disabled.
In practical terms, these are targeting controls, not a guaranteed ad-removal setting. Contextual promotions can still be selected based on where you are navigating or the surrounding server or activity context.
Hide a specific Quest promotion
- Find the Quest card in an in-app promotional placement.
- Select its three-dot or ellipsis menu.
- Choose Hide This.
According to Discord’s FAQ, hiding a Quest suppresses notifications for that Quest in that particular placement. The same campaign can still appear in another surface, such as Active Now or Quest Home, so you may need to hide each visible placement separately.

Can you remove all Quests?
Discord’s documented controls do not establish a universal “show me no sponsored content anywhere” option. Even with personalized promotions disabled, Discord says users may still see contextual or non-personalized promotions. The Quest catalog can also remain available through Discover → Quests.
Therefore, the reliable claim is limited: you can restrict personalization, refuse participation and hide individual promotional placements. You cannot rely on those settings to erase every Quest-related surface.
What data Discord says it uses
Discord says sponsored-content personalization can draw on:
- Your activity on Discord and activities associated with your Discord account.
- Information received from advertisers and other third-party data providers.
- Contextual information, such as where you are navigating or the server-related context in which a promotion appears.
Discord also says it does not sell users’ personal information to third parties. When you engage with a Quest, it may share limited information with measurement partners—for example, whether you started playing a game after seeing a promotion. Discord says those partners may use the information only for Quest measurement, while advertiser reports are aggregated and anonymized and personal information is not provided for unrelated advertiser use. These are Discord’s stated practices, not an independent audit. See the company’s policy update and the September 29, 2025 privacy-policy effective-date notice.

Newer formats and where they may appear
Mobile Video Quests
Discord’s March 20, 2025 announcement describes Video Quests as a full-screen mobile promotional format that remains opt-in and can provide a reward. Availability depends on the campaign and account. The announcement is at Discord’s mobile advertising release.

Arena Quests
Announced October 2, 2025, Arena Quests let brands sponsor gaming moments involving a curated selection of games or themed bundles. Discord also announced measurement partnerships with AppsFlyer and Gamesight. This confirms that the advertising system has expanded beyond the original stream-based concept, not that every user will receive Arena campaigns. Details are in Discord’s Arena Quest release.

Teen limits and account differences
Discord’s current Quest FAQ says users aged 13–17 are limited to three Quests per day. After completing a third Quest, the user must wait 24 hours before accepting another; rewards for previously completed Quests can still be claimed.
Age, region, platform, language, campaign rules and staged interface changes can affect which Quest types and controls are available. Do not assume that an instruction from an older article—such as a Privacy & Safety menu or an “In-game rewards (aka Quests)” label—matches the current interface.
If promotions still appear after opting out
- Return to Data & Privacy → How Discord uses your data and verify both sponsored-content personalization controls are off.
- Reload the browser client or restart the Discord app so the current settings are applied.
- Use the promotion’s ellipsis menu and choose Hide This on each placement where it appears.
- Check Discover → Quests separately; hiding a card does not remove the Quest catalog.
- Make sure you are not mistaking Discord Shop, Nitro or other first-party promotions for a Sponsored Quest.
Seeing a non-personalized or contextual promotion after these steps is consistent with Discord’s documentation and does not by itself mean the settings failed.

Desktop and browser blockers
A desktop-wide filter such as AdGuard may affect traffic from Discord’s native app as well as a browser, but results depend on how a promotion is delivered. AdGuard cautions that mobile app-level blocking is more constrained; its discussion is at AdGuard’s Discord-blocking article. A browser extension applies to Discord in the browser and does not automatically control the native desktop or mobile apps. Blocking can also interfere with legitimate features and may create support or terms-of-service problems, so it is not a guaranteed Quest solution.
Nitro
The reviewed Discord documentation does not establish that a Nitro subscription removes Sponsored Quests. Do not purchase Nitro expecting an ad-free Quest experience unless Discord’s current subscription terms explicitly promise that benefit.
Changing services
Moving a community to another platform is a much larger response than disabling Quest personalization. It requires comparing voice and video quality, moderation, bots and integrations, mobile support, privacy policy, discovery and the effort of moving members and identities.
