Disney Heroes: Battle Mode was the first game to emerge from Disney’s rebooted mobile strategy, as GamesBeat described it in 2018—not Disney’s first mobile game ever. Developed with PerBlue, the Disney and Pixar hero-battler launched in 2018. It is no longer playable: storefront removal and the server shutdown both took effect in 2026.
What was Disney Heroes: Battle Mode?
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode was a mobile role-playing game built around battles between teams of Disney and Pixar characters. Disney and PerBlue announced their partnership in early 2018; the game was the first title they developed together after that deal. GamesBeat separately framed it as the first game of Disney’s rebooted mobile strategy. Neither description means it was Disney’s first mobile game ever.
The game’s premise brought familiar characters into an original digital universe threatened by a virus. Its launch announcement named characters and franchises including The Incredibles, Wreck-It Ralph and Pirates of the Caribbean. Disney vice president of Games Lisa Anderson described it as bringing Disney and Pixar characters together “in an all-new, original universe.”
How was it supposed to play?
The advertised core was to assemble teams of five and take heroes into battles, missions and friend campaigns. Players could level characters, equip them with gear and activate their individual abilities. PerBlue CEO Justin Beck said the partnership would bring recognizable characters and brands together in the new universe the companies had created.

At announcement, release was planned for iOS and Android. Pre-registration began on Google Play, with App Store and Google Play availability planned for later in 2018. Those details describe the launch plan, not a current way to access the game.
How popular did Disney Heroes become?
PerBlue’s official history page reports that the game reached 15 million players within a year of launch. In 2020, the company marked 30 million players and the release of the game’s 100th hero. PerBlue also lists 6.9 billion battles as a lifetime figure; that is a publisher-reported total, not an independently audited statistic.

Is Disney Heroes: Battle Mode still playable?
No. PerBlue scheduled removal from app storefronts and the disabling of real-money in-app purchases for April 30, 2026. Previously installed copies could continue working only until the servers shut down on May 31, 2026. Both dates have passed, so the game is no longer officially playable.

PerBlue’s shutdown notice gives the schedule but does not explain the business reason for the decision. There is no confirmed cause to report. The closing message thanked the community: “We’re truly grateful for all of the love, support and feedback you’ve shared over the years.”
