dlaa3mini.dll is a WIA mini-driver used by certain Dell printer and scanner packages. When Windows reports that dlaa3mini.dll is missing, was not found, or could not be loaded, repair the complete Dell V520 or V720 printer/scanner driver instead of downloading an isolated DLL.
dlaa3mini.dll is associated with the Lexmark-developed imaging technology used in those Dell devices. It is a hardware-driver component, not a Visual C++ runtime, DirectX file, .NET component, or game library.

The version, architecture, and size describe a commonly reported copy, not a universal replacement target. Different driver packages and Windows releases can contain different metadata. Select the driver by the exact printer model and Windows installation, not by matching a file-size listing.
WIA is the Windows Image Acquisition framework. Scanner applications communicate with the WIA service, which loads the device manufacturer’s mini-driver. That is why replacing only dlaa3mini.dll can leave the actual problem untouched: the INF registration, dependent files, device association, and WIA entries may also be damaged or missing.

What the error means
You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because dlaa3mini.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “This application failed to start because dlaa3mini.dll was not found.”
- “Error loading dlaa3mini.dll. The specified module could not be found.”
- “dlaa3mini.dll is missing or corrupted.”
- “Cannot find dlaa3mini.dll.”
These are representative file-specific messages. The file may be absent, but “specified module could not be found” can also mean that dlaa3mini.dll exists while one of its dependencies is unavailable.
A Bad Image message, including status 0xc000007b, points more toward corruption, an incompatible binary, or a 32-bit and 64-bit mismatch. It is not proof that the DLL itself is the only damaged file.
Fix 1: Cleanly reinstall the Dell printer and scanner driver
This is the most reliable fix because it restores the DLL, its dependencies, WIA registration, and the device association together.
Remove the printer from Windows
- Disconnect the Dell printer or scanner’s USB cable if the existing installer directs you to do so.
- Open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the Dell device.
- Click Remove and confirm.
- If more than one old Dell or Lexmark imaging device is listed, remove only entries belonging to hardware you no longer use.

- Press Win + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - Uninstall the Dell printer software, scanner software, or imaging package associated with the device.
- Leave unrelated printer software installed unless you know it belongs to the same obsolete package.
- Restart Windows.
If the package does not appear in Programs and Features, continue with Device Manager cleanup after the restart.
Remove the stale device driver
- Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
- Expand Printers, Print queues, Imaging devices, and Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Look for the Dell printer or scanner, an unknown imaging device, or an entry with a warning icon.
- Right-click the relevant entry and choose Uninstall device.
- If Windows offers Attempt to remove the driver for this device, select it only when you are certain the driver belongs to the old Dell device.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart Windows again.
Do not remove a shared USB controller or an unrelated printer driver merely because it has a similar name.

Install the correct package
Obtain the driver by selecting the exact Dell model and Windows architecture in Dell’s support software. If the original package is no longer available there, search the Microsoft Update Catalog for Dell V520 Series or Dell V720 Series packages.
- Download the package that matches the printer model.
- Right-click the installer and choose Run as administrator.
- Follow the setup instructions.
- Reconnect the USB cable only when the installer requests it.
- Restart Windows if setup asks you to do so.
The repair worked if the printer appears without a warning icon, printing succeeds, and scanning works through Windows Scan, Windows Fax and Scan, Paint, or the Dell scanning utility. If printing works but scanning still fails, the print portion is installed while the WIA or TWAIN portion is still missing or incompatible.

Fix 2: Check 32-bit and 64-bit compatibility
A 32-bit DLL cannot be loaded into a 64-bit process, and a 64-bit DLL cannot be loaded into a 32-bit process. Older Dell imaging packages can also behave differently on newer Windows releases.
To check your Windows architecture:
- Open Start > Settings > System > About.
- Find System type.
- Note whether Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
- Download the driver package intended for that Windows architecture and printer model.
Do not choose a replacement based only on a public DLL page claiming that the file is 32-bit or 64-bit. Those listings can conflict, and similarly named files such as DLAA1mini.dll, DLAA2mini.dll, or LXAA3mini.dll are not interchangeable.
If the installer refuses to run:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties > Compatibility.
- Try compatibility mode for an older Windows version only when the package is intended for your Dell device and has a valid digital signature.
- Select Run this program as an administrator.
- Click Apply, then run the installer again.
If Windows 11 still refuses the legacy package, try the modern Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device workflow or Windows Update. Full scanning support may not be available for obsolete hardware.
Fix 3: Repair Windows components after an upgrade
Use this path when the error began after a Windows upgrade, reinstall, failed update, or broader system corruption. These commands do not replace a missing third-party Dell driver, but they can repair Windows components required by the driver.

- Open Start.
- Type
cmd. - Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for it to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test scanning again.
Microsoft recommends running DISM before System File Checker in its system repair instructions.
If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the device. If it reports that it could not repair everything, run DISM again after Windows Update is working, then repeat SFC. If the commands complete successfully but dlaa3mini.dll remains missing, reinstall the Dell driver because SFC may not restore an OEM file.

Fix 4: Check antivirus quarantine
A security product may have quarantined a legitimate driver file, although there is no reliable evidence that this is a common cause for dlaa3mini.dll.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Click Protection history.
- Look for an entry involving
dlaa3mini.dllor the Dell printer package. - Do not restore it immediately.
- First confirm that the file came from the official Dell or Microsoft driver package and that its digital signature is valid.
- Restore or allow it only when that identity is clear.
Microsoft explains the risks and controls in its Protection History guidance. If the file came from an unknown download site, delete it rather than allowing it.
Fix 5: Restart WIA and remove stale registrations
If printing works but scanning does not, or if the device was removed months ago and the error appears at startup, the WIA service or an abandoned device registration may be involved.
- Press Win + R.
- Type
services.mscand press Enter. - Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
- Right-click it and choose Restart.
- If Restart is unavailable, choose Properties, set Startup type to Automatic, and click Start.
- Close the Services window.
- Remove the old printer under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Reinstall the correct driver package.
WIA loads vendor mini-drivers through its service. Applications do not normally repair this relationship by loading the DLL directly.

Fix 6: Use System Restore after a recent change
System Restore is appropriate when the error started immediately after a driver update, Windows update, or software installation and the device worked before that change.
- Press Win + R.
- Type
rstrui.exeand press Enter. - Select Next.
- Choose a restore point dated before the error began.
- Select Scan for affected programs if available.
- Review the changes.
- Click Next > Finish to start the restore.
Save open work first. System Restore does not normally remove personal documents, but it can roll back drivers and applications. Microsoft documents the process in its System Restore guidance.
Do not download or register a random DLL
Do not copy a downloaded dlaa3mini.dll into:
C:WindowsSystem32C:WindowsSysWOW64- An application folder
- The Windows DriverStore
A random DLL can contain malware, have the wrong architecture, be the wrong version, or lack the dependent files and INF registration that the WIA device needs. It can also overwrite a legitimate file and make diagnosis harder.
Do not run:
regsvr32 dlaa3mini.dll
regsvr32 is not the normal repair method for a WIA mini-driver. It works only when a DLL provides the registration entry point expected by the utility. WIA drivers are registered through the device INF, CLSID, and WIA-specific entries during driver installation. Microsoft describes the limitations of regsvr32 in its registration troubleshooting documentation.
Avoid registry cleaners and automatic DLL repair utilities that replace files without identifying the owning device.

Is dlaa3mini.dll a Windows file?
WIA is supplied by Windows, but dlaa3mini.dll is a device-specific vendor mini-driver. It may appear in an older Windows driver package or be installed by Dell’s printer software. It is not a general Windows runtime DLL.

Which device usually installs it?
The strongest device-specific association is with Dell V520 and V720 printer/scanner packages using Lexmark imaging technology. Confirm the exact model in Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners and Device Manager before installing anything.
Why does scanning fail while printing still works?
Printing and scanning can use different portions of a multifunction driver. The print driver may remain installed while the WIA or TWAIN component containing dlaa3mini.dll is missing or improperly registered. Reinstall the complete package rather than only the print driver.

The named DLL may be present while a dependency is absent. Remove and reinstall the complete driver package, then check the WIA service. Avoid copying individual dependencies from unrelated sources.
Can Windows 11 use this old driver?
It may, depending on the exact device and package. Try Windows Update or the Add printer/scanner workflow first. If the legacy package is refused or scanning remains unavailable, the hardware may not have full support on the current Windows release.
What information should I provide when seeking further help?
Record the exact Dell model, Windows version, system architecture, complete error text, whether printing works, whether scanning works, and whether the failure began after an update or device removal.
