dllsafecheck.dll is a Zoom component, not a Windows DLL. If dllsafecheck.dll is missing or cannot be loaded, repair the Zoom installation rather than downloading a replacement file.
The file has appeared in historical Zoom desktop, SDK, and Zoom Rooms packages. It may be stored below %APPDATA%Zoom, C:Program FilesZoom, or C:Program Files (x86)Zoom, usually in a bin or versioned bin directory. Some packages also contain DllSafeCheck64.dll.
Fix 1: Reinstall Zoom from the official installer
Time needed: 10–15 minutes
This is the safest and most likely fix, especially when the error appeared after an update or when other Zoom files, such as zCrashReport.dll, are missing too.
- Close the error dialog.
- Right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager.
- In Processes, look for Zoom,
Zoom.exe,aomhost.exe, or related Zoom processes. - Select each relevant process and choose End task.
- Press Windows key + R, type
appwiz.cpl, and press Enter. - Select zoom.us or Zoom Workplace.
- Select Uninstall, then follow the prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Download Zoom again from the official Zoom Download Center. Choose the installer matching the computer and deployment type.
- Run the installer and start Zoom.
Do not copy dllsafecheck.dll into System32, SysWOW64, or another application’s directory. The correct copy must be installed beside the Zoom executable that needs it.

- Compatible with Nintendo Switch 2’s new GameChat mode
- Auto-Light Balance: RightLight boosts brightness by up to 50%, reducing shadows so you look your best—compared to previous-generation Logitech webcams (1)
- Privacy with a Slide: The integrated webcam cover makes it easy to get total, reliable privacy when you're not on a video call
- Built-In Mic: The built-in microphone lets others hear you clearly during video calls
- Easy Plug-And-Play: The Brio 101 works with most video calling platforms, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Google Meet—no hassle; it just works
How to tell whether it worked
Start Zoom and sign in. The repair worked if the original missing-file dialog does not return and Zoom opens normally.
If the same error appears immediately after reinstalling, continue with the quarantine and architecture checks below. Reinstalling over a damaged installation can preserve broken files, so a deeper cleanup may be necessary.
Fix 2: Check Windows Security Protection History
Time needed: 5–10 minutes
Antivirus or endpoint-security software may remove a Zoom DLL during an update. This is a plausible cause, not proof that the file was malicious.
- Open the Start menu.
- Type Windows Security and open it.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Protection history.
- Review detections from the time the Zoom error began.
- Open any entry that mentions Zoom,
dllsafecheck.dll,DllSafeCheck64.dll, or a Zoom installation directory. - Record the detection name and affected path.
- Run a scan before restoring anything.
Restore a quarantined file only when you have verified that it came from the original Zoom installation and that the surrounding installation is trustworthy. Microsoft Defender may detect it again after restoration.

If the computer is managed by an employer or school, do not create exclusions yourself. Ask the administrator to review the detection and the organization’s application-control, DLP, or EDR policy.
Zoom installations can use directories below %AppData%Zoom, Program Files, and Program Files (x86), including versioned bin directories. A narrow, administrator-approved exclusion may be needed in a managed environment, but broadly disabling antivirus protection is not a fix.

Fix 3: Use CleanZoom when ordinary uninstall fails
Time needed: 15–25 minutes
Use Zoom’s official CleanZoom utility only if the normal uninstall leaves a broken installation, the installer fails repeatedly, or multiple Zoom directories contain mismatched files.
- Save any work and close Zoom.
- Obtain CleanZoom through Zoom support or your organization’s approved software source.
- Run the utility as administrator.
- Follow its removal prompts.
- Restart Windows.
- Download the correct Zoom installer.
- Install Zoom and test it before restoring custom settings.
CleanZoom removes local Zoom configuration and cryptographic keys. It can affect access to encrypted Zoom Mail or Zoom Phone data if recovery keys or escrow are unavailable. Treat it as a second-line repair, not the first thing to run.
Fix 4: Confirm the Zoom package and architecture
Time needed: 10 minutes
The error may name dllsafecheck.dll while the affected process is actually Zoom.exe, aomhost.exe, or aomhost64.exe. The correct files depend on the Zoom product and package.
Check the error dialog for:
- The executable named in the title
dllsafecheck.dllorDllSafeCheck64.dll- A “bad image” or “not designed to run on Windows” message
- A path under
%APPDATA%Zoom,Program Files, orProgram Files (x86)
Then check Windows:
- Open Settings.
- Select System > About.
- Review System type.
- Note whether Windows is 64-bit or ARM64.
Zoom provides different packages for 64-bit, 32-bit, ARM64, MSI-managed, VDI, and other deployments. On a managed computer, install the package selected by IT rather than replacing it with a consumer installer.
Do not assume that every Zoom release contains both 32-bit and 64-bit copies. Do not replace DllSafeCheck64.dll with dllsafecheck.dll, or copy a file from another computer.
If the error comes from a Zoom SDK application, Zoom Rooms deployment, or an older installation rather than the regular desktop client, reinstall that specific product or package. Repairing the ordinary Zoom Workplace client may not repair a separate SDK or Rooms directory.

Fix 5: Check file integrity and permissions
Time needed: 10–15 minutes
A file can exist but still fail to load because the installation is incomplete, modified, or inaccessible.
- Open the error dialog and note the executable and directory.
- Open File Explorer.
- Check the relevant Zoom directories under:
%APPDATA%ZoomC:Program FilesZoomC:Program Files (x86)Zoom- Look for the DLL beside the Zoom executable or inside its
bindirectory. - Right-click the directory and select Properties.
- Open the Security tab.
- Confirm that your account can read and execute files there.
- Avoid manually changing permissions on a company-managed installation.
If the DLL is present but the message says “bad image,” “not designed to run on Windows,” or “could not be loaded,” treat that as possible corruption, architecture mismatch, or tampering. Reinstall Zoom rather than replacing only the named file.
A genuine Zoom file should be checked through Properties > Digital Signatures when that tab is available. The signer should identify Zoom Video Communications, Inc. Do not treat a filename alone as proof of authenticity.
Fix 6: Repair wider Windows corruption only when other programs also fail
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
dllsafecheck.dll is not a protected Windows system file. SFC and DISM will not normally restore it. Use these commands only when other Windows applications also fail, Windows reports component corruption, or system files are clearly damaged.
Recommended Free Tools
- Open Start.
- Type Command Prompt.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Run:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
- Wait for DISM to finish.
- Then run:
sfc /scannow
- Restart Windows.
- Test Zoom.
Success means DISM completes without an unrepaired error and SFC reports that it repaired or found no integrity violations. If Zoom still reports the missing DLL, return to the Zoom uninstall and reinstall path.
Repeating SFC and DISM without knowing what changed can waste time while the actual problem remains a damaged Zoom directory. Outbyte PC Repair can show what system issues its free scan finds, while repair is handled by the full version; reinstalling Zoom remains the definitive fix for this Zoom-owned DLL.
Fix 7: Do not use regsvr32 for this error
Time needed: 2 minutes
regsvr32 is intended for DLLs that expose registration functions such as DllRegisterServer. There is no verified evidence that dllsafecheck.dll is a COM or ActiveX component that needs registration.

Running this command is therefore not an appropriate repair:
regsvr32 DllSafeCheck.dll
It may produce an error stating that the entry point was not found. That does not mean Windows needs another DLL. Reinstall Zoom instead.
Fix 8: Check drivers only if the failure began after a system or graphics change
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
A display, audio, security, or virtualization driver is not the normal owner of dllsafecheck.dll. Still, driver changes can affect Zoom startup and video components.
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters, Sound, video and game controllers, and any device category related to your Zoom setup.
- Right-click the affected device and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab.
- Check the driver provider and date.
- Use Update driver only with a driver from Windows Update, the hardware manufacturer, or your organization’s approved source.
- Restart Windows and test Zoom.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, the Roll Back Driver option may be appropriate when available. Do not replace Zoom’s DLL with a driver file.
Outbyte Driver Updater can scan for driver issues and show which versions are stale, while driver installation through the full version is optional; it is not a substitute for reinstalling Zoom when Zoom’s own file is missing.

Fix 9: Scan for malware or DLL side-loading
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
A missing DLL can follow malware removal, and a genuine filename can also be abused by a malicious replacement.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Select Scan options.
- Run a Full scan.
- If compromise is suspected, use Microsoft Defender Offline scan.
- After the scan, uninstall Zoom.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall Zoom from its official installer.
Do not place a downloaded DLL beside an executable to bypass an error. Windows searches application-controlled directories when loading DLLs, so an attacker can exploit a copied or modified file.

What not to do
- Do not download
dllsafecheck.dllfrom a DLL-index or file-sharing site. - Do not copy it from another computer.
- Do not place it in
System32orSysWOW64. - Do not substitute
DllSafeCheck64.dllfordllsafecheck.dll. - Do not broadly disable antivirus protection.
- Do not assume the file is a Visual C++, DirectX, or .NET component.
- Do not expect Windows Update to restore a Zoom DLL.
- Do not use
regsvr32as a generic missing-DLL repair command.
A standalone download can contain malware, the wrong architecture, the wrong Zoom release, or a modified binary. It may also hide the real cause, such as a failed update or quarantine event.
FAQ
Is dllsafecheck.dll part of Windows?
No. It is associated with Zoom and belongs inside a Zoom application, SDK, Rooms, or related installation directory.
Is it safe?
A genuine copy supplied by Zoom can be a legitimate Zoom component. Verify its location and digital signature. A file with the same name from an unrelated download source is not trustworthy merely because the name matches.
Is it a Microsoft Visual C++ or DirectX DLL?
There is no evidence that it is a Microsoft runtime component. Do not install random runtime packages to replace it.
Why does the error mention DllSafeCheck64.dll instead?
That usually points to a 64-bit Zoom process or package. Install the correct Zoom architecture instead of renaming or swapping DLLs.
Can I fix it with SFC or DISM?
Usually no. The file belongs to Zoom, not protected Windows system files. Use SFC and DISM only when other evidence indicates broader Windows corruption.
What if reinstalling Zoom does not work?
Check Protection History, confirm the package architecture, inspect the signature and installation path, and ask IT to review DLP, EDR, application-control, or MSI policies. If CleanZoom was used and a fresh official installation still fails, collect the exact executable name, error text, Windows architecture, detection details, and Zoom logs for support.
Should I enable a Windows Feature or reinstall a driver?
Not for this DLL by itself. Windows Features and drivers are relevant only when another diagnostic specifically identifies them. The targeted repair is to restore the correct Zoom installation.
