Yes, some 24/7 YouTube streaming services let you change their active playlist without stopping the broadcast, but it is a provider-specific feature—not something YouTube guarantees for every streaming service. The change may need to be published or may take effect only when the current video ends. Also, editing a playlist on YouTube is not necessarily the same as editing the queue that a streaming service is currently playing.
First, identify which playlist you are changing
There are two different controls that are easy to confuse:
- A YouTube playlist: a playlist on YouTube that you can edit through YouTube’s playlist controls.
- The active playout queue: the files or videos a 24/7 streaming provider is currently sending to your live broadcast. This queue may be managed in that provider’s own dashboard or media library.
YouTube’s playlist editing help describes adding or editing titles and descriptions, changing order, and removing videos. That does not establish that an external service will change its active broadcast queue when you edit a YouTube playlist. Check the streaming provider’s queue editor and documentation instead.
What the documented services say
The table reflects each provider’s own documentation, not independent testing. Features and interfaces can change, so confirm the current instructions for the service and account you use.

How to update a playlist without surprising viewers
- Open the service’s active queue or playlist editor. Do not assume the YouTube playlist page controls the files currently being played to the live stream.
- Make the change in the provider’s editor. Add, remove, or reorder items only if that provider documents the action for an active broadcast.
- Save, publish, or apply the edit if required. Upstream specifically says changes must be published.
- Allow for the provider’s transition behavior. A published change may appear after publication, at the next video transition, or after the current video finishes. The documented timing differs by service.
- Keep a valid item in the queue. Loopify says a Live Playlist must retain at least one valid video.
- For an urgent change, check for an on-demand play or skip control. Upstream documents on-demand playback that can temporarily skip the queue; using it changes what viewers see immediately.
Check YouTube live eligibility separately
Playlist editing and permission to livestream are separate issues. YouTube’s general live-stream setup guidance lists channel verification and having no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days among the requirements to enable streaming. Meeting those requirements does not mean a third-party service supports live queue editing.
