Do Galaxy Buds Work With PS4 or PS5? How to Pair Them

Galaxy Buds usually cannot pair directly with PS4 or PS5. A compatible USB Bluetooth audio transmitter can provide game sound, but microphone and party-chat support vary.

Not directly, in most cases. PS4 and PS5 do not normally pair with Galaxy Buds as standard Bluetooth audio headphones. A USB Bluetooth audio transmitter designed for PlayStation can often send game sound to the Buds, but microphone and party-chat support are not guaranteed.

Can Galaxy Buds connect directly to a PS4 or PS5?

Usually not through the consoles’ normal Bluetooth-device menus. Bluetooth hardware does not mean a console supports every Bluetooth audio profile: Sony says PS4 supports HSP/HFP rather than A2DP for the stereo Bluetooth-headphone use described in its guidance, while Sony says regular Bluetooth headphone pairing is not possible on PS5, citing latency and bandwidth concerns. See Sony’s PS4 Bluetooth guidance and Sony’s PS5 Bluetooth guidance.

The Buds may appear in a device search or fail to connect as an audio device. Putting them into pairing mode makes them discoverable; it does not add an audio profile the console does not support. Galaxy Buds model or Bluetooth version does not remove that console limitation.

What you need to use Galaxy Buds with PlayStation

  • Charged Galaxy Buds and their case.
  • A USB Bluetooth audio transmitter whose manufacturer explicitly lists PS4 or PS5 support. It must present itself to the console as a USB audio device; a generic PC Bluetooth adapter or Bluetooth receiver is not equivalent.
  • A separate microphone or headset if you need dependable party chat and the transmitter does not support microphone return audio.

PlayStation’s own wireless-headset setup uses a USB adapter connected to the console, and transmitter makers document USB-audio setups for compatible products. See PlayStation’s headset setup guide and the Avantree DG60P setup information. These examples support the connection approach, not a guarantee that every adapter works with every Buds model.

  • EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO: Catch details like never before. Designed with a High-Res Audio¹ 24-bit hi-fi codec, the latest Galaxy earbuds maintain the integrity of your favorite audio over Bluetooth.
  • TWO-WAY SPEAKER: Enjoy every audio experience to the fullest with two speakers in both Buds, including a tweeter for rich highs and a woofer for deep, full lows.
  • HD VOICE: Enjoy clear phone calls with Galaxy Buds4 Pro and Galaxy S26 Series² —they work together to deliver crisp and clear conversations.
  • ANC 2.0: Wherever you go, Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation 2.0³ intelligently adapts in real time to provide stronger, smoother noise cancellation wherever you go.
  • OPTIMIZED COMFORT: Enjoy that just-right fit, with an improved, ear-hugging design and changeable ear tips.

Before buying, check the exact transmitter’s PS4/PS5 compatibility, USB-audio support, connector, and pairing instructions. Codec support matters for latency: both transmitter and earbuds must share a codec for its benefit to apply. A transmitter’s codec list does not establish that a particular Galaxy Buds model supports those codecs.

Put your Galaxy Buds into pairing mode

Galaxy Buds model Pairing procedure
Galaxy Buds, Buds+, Buds Live, Buds Pro Put both earbuds in your ears, then touch and hold both touchpads for several seconds until the pairing indication.
Galaxy Buds2, Buds2 Pro Place both earbuds in the case and leave the lid open. Touch and hold both earbuds’ touchpads together until the case lights flash.
Galaxy Buds3, Buds3 Pro Place the earbuds in the case, close and reopen the lid, then hold the Connect button on the case bottom for at least three seconds until the pairing indication.

These procedures are from Samsung’s Galaxy earbuds connection guide. If a phone or tablet reconnects to the Buds, disconnect it or turn off its Bluetooth while pairing to the transmitter.

How to pair Galaxy Buds with a PS5

  1. Plug a PS5-compatible USB Bluetooth audio transmitter into a console USB port. Set its mode to PS5 or USB audio if it has a mode switch.
  2. Put the Galaxy Buds into pairing mode using the procedure for your model.
  3. Start pairing on the transmitter if required, then wait for its connection indicator or other pairing confirmation.
  4. On the PS5, open Settings > Sound > Audio Output and select the transmitter. It may appear under its brand name, as “USB Headset,” or under another USB-audio name.
  5. If offered, choose the option to output all audio to headphones, then test game sound before joining a party.

Menu labels and the transmitter’s exact pairing process can vary. Follow its console-specific instructions if the PS5 does not list it as an audio device.

How to pair Galaxy Buds with a PS4

  1. Connect a PS4-compatible USB Bluetooth audio transmitter to a console USB port.
  2. Put the Buds into pairing mode and start pairing on the transmitter if necessary. Wait for confirmation that the two have connected.
  3. On the PS4, open Settings > Devices > Audio Devices.
  4. Select the transmitter as the output device if it is listed, then choose the appropriate output-to-headphones setting, such as all audio, if available.
  5. Test game sound and chat separately. If the PS4 reports an unsupported USB device, check the transmitter’s manual and compatibility information.

PS4 menu names can vary with system software and adapter behavior. PlayStation’s wireless-headset instructions describe the general USB-adapter connection model, but do not certify every third-party Bluetooth transmitter.

Will the Galaxy Buds microphone work for party chat?

Do not assume so. Game audio travelling from the console to the Buds is a one-way listening path; using the Buds microphone requires a return path from the earbuds through the transmitter to the console. Many USB Bluetooth transmitters are transmit-only, so the Buds can play game audio while their microphone remains unavailable. Chat support depends on the specific transmitter and setup.

If the Buds microphone is not available, try the DualSense or DualShock 4 controller microphone, a wired headset connected to the controller, or a PlayStation-compatible wireless headset with its own USB receiver. Even when chat works, the transmitter may not provide the same game/chat balance or controls as a console headset.

Latency and feature trade-offs

Bluetooth delay depends on the complete audio chain—the console, transmitter, selected codec, and earbuds. Bluetooth 5.0, 5.3, or 5.4 alone is not a low-latency guarantee. Low-latency codec claims apply only when both ends support the same codec. For example, Avantree lists A2DP/AVRCP and several codecs for the DG60P, but its low-latency claims are tied to compatible headphones or speakers; they do not establish a particular result with Galaxy Buds. See the DG60P specifications.

Delay is more noticeable in timing-sensitive competitive games than in many casual or turn-based games. Samsung says standard audio streaming can work with other Bluetooth devices, while some Samsung-specific features may not be available outside supported Galaxy devices. Customization and features such as EQ, firmware updates, ANC or ambient controls, gaming mode, and touch settings may therefore be limited without Galaxy Wearable support. See Samsung’s connection guide and its feature compatibility information.

Fix pairing, sound, or connection problems

The console does not detect the transmitter

  • Unplug and reconnect it, try another USB port, and restart the console with the transmitter connected.
  • Confirm it is a USB audio transmitter rather than a data-only Bluetooth adapter, and verify explicit compatibility with your console.
  • Check whether it needs a USB-A-to-USB-C adapter or a particular USB-audio mode. An optical-only TV transmitter will not work through USB audio unless it also supports that function.

The Buds do not pair with the transmitter

  • Turn off Bluetooth on the phone or computer that normally connects to the Buds.
  • Use the correct model-specific pairing procedure above. If needed, place the earbuds in the case, close it for five to six seconds, reopen it, and try again.
  • Keep the Buds near the transmitter, charge the earbuds and case, and clear the transmitter’s saved pairing history if it provides that option.

The Buds connect but there is no sound

  • Select the transmitter in the console’s audio-output settings and check that the Buds connected to it—not to a phone.
  • Raise volume on both the console and Buds, and check whether the transmitter has separate input or output modes.
  • Reconnect or restart the console. If available, test another Bluetooth headphone to help isolate whether the problem is the Buds or the transmitter.

The sound is delayed or chat does not work

  • For delay, use a transmitter and earbuds with a codec in common, but do not expect codec marketing or Bluetooth version numbers alone to guarantee a result. A wired headset or PlayStation wireless headset is a better fit if timing is critical.
  • For chat, check specifically for microphone return-audio support. Test the controller microphone separately or use a wired headset if the Buds microphone is unavailable.

Which option makes sense?

Use case Practical choice Main trade-off
You already own Galaxy Buds and mostly play single-player games USB Bluetooth audio transmitter Extra hardware; latency and Buds compatibility vary.
You want the lowest-cost route and already own wired headphones Connect a wired headset to the DualSense or DualShock 4 controller A cable limits movement.
You play competitive games or need dependable party chat Wired controller headset or PlayStation-compatible wireless headset A dedicated headset may mean buying another device.

A transmitter is most useful when reusing the Buds for game listening matters more than guaranteed chat, game/chat controls, or the simplest setup. A PlayStation-compatible headset is the easier all-in-one choice for regular multiplayer.

Other ways to listen with Galaxy Buds

  • TV Bluetooth: If the television supports Bluetooth audio, pair the Buds to the TV instead of the console. This can provide game sound, but may add latency and generally does not provide PlayStation voice chat.
  • PS Remote Play: Connect the Buds to the phone, tablet, PC, or Mac running PS Remote Play. The audio then goes to that device rather than directly from the console; Remote Play can add latency.
  • Controller headset: A wired headset connected to the controller avoids the Bluetooth-transmitter pairing step and is a straightforward alternative for audio and chat.
